I went to a Buzzcocks gig when I was in my mothers womb. Beat that!

Been listening to a lot of the Damned lately, can't get my hands on the new album though.

Amazon.co.uk for £9.98.

You probably wont find it much cheaper than that, considering it's quite a new album. I've heard a few songs off of the new album (all live, albeit) and they weren't quite what I expected.

I don't think any of you can look me in the eye and tell me you didn't get into punk through some well-known, mass-produced band like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones etc. Because the majority of us did, and we turned out alright.

the first punk song i ever heard was Police Truck by Dead Kennedy's, first punk album I bought was Give me convenience or give me Death by Dead Kennedy's, followed by Misfits Collection I.

I've never really liked pistols, clash, or ramones; i just don't dig on their sound.

The Pistols are probably the band that got me started on punk. Then I discovered some street punk ala Cheap Sex, the Career Soldiers and whatnot. From there I got into the older hardcore stuff, namely Minor Threat, and I've been listening to punk ever since.

I started out with the Sex Pistols, Ramones just like everyone else. Though I never did go through a "cheap sex, the casualties, oi oi stage". I fell into crust and D-beat immediately after hearing Discharge.

Face it, the only real "punks" are pioneering ideals and post apocalyptic hobos.

I dont understand why people say that Johnny rotten "sold out" for doing that butter advert. What the hell did he sell out to?

Punk? No...lol

So what if he was in an advert. He produced great music, if it wasn't for him, this topic wouldn't even be here.

Erm, to me punk is about carrying a certain message. Usually of political origin. Not lots of hair gel and trendy clothes at hot topic. It's standing by what you believe in, through the power of fast-paced music that involves lots of powerchords.

People are too woried about spreading a political message, the great music and the anti-establishment lifestyle is what I like to live by, my motto is "f*ck government, they're just a bunch of liars" I dont tend to look into other peoples political views.

You sound about 13. No offense dude, but "f*ck the government" is a political message. A slightly retarded one at that. Sure the government does f*ck up a lot, but I don't see you developing a better system. But that's another topic altogether.

In simpler terms, punk is about living by what you believe in, and not letting others bring you down while doing it. Also, I did not mean to insult you, just try thinking about it, running a whole country is not an easy task.

But getting back on-topic, I do like Black Flag however.

Punk is about not always f*cking arguing about what Punk "is" and what Punk "isnt". Just shut up and enjoy some music, someones always gotta be arguing about their deep emotional thought-out philosophy on what punk is "all about." This is the punk music topic (hence in the music section) so lets speak of music.

Honesty other than that I have no music to discuss it just annoys me that most people would rather argue and chat about their ideals than just talk about music and not act like a bunch of snobby assholes.

but yes I likes me some Black Flag too...

*EDIT* I went back farther and saw people saying what bands got them into punk

I started out with The Misfits, Dead Kennedys and Sex Pistols. alot of other bands follow some of which I'd be pretty f*cking ashamed posting on here so I'll keep it to myself.

Too steer this topic away from the usual "PUNK MEANS THIS TOO ME" when all it is is just a genre, what is/was your local scene like?

You've told me the Gold Coast has a pretty good scene but I haven't looked into it too much yet. The best place for music in Australia (punk or not) would definitely be Melbourne imo.

What's brissy like? It's only an hour away from me so I'd travel down their for any gigs worth going to.

Yup, im sick of people telling me that punk is about politics.

There is no local punk bands and/or punk venues in Warrington/St. Helens. Although Im going watching SLF in Warrington in May.

Black flag are brillant nonetheless.

Non-existant. I live in a suburb with about 120,000 people, but there's no punk scene to speak of. If I want to go to shows, I've gotta go about an hour south or 45 minutes north to the 2 closest cities to me. There's a huge scene here for the new "hardcore" XxX brutal (I'm not sure how to describe it, I guess the music that calls itself hardcore but isn't hardcore at all) type bullsh*t, but nothing at all for punk.

Also, how about we stop with all this "punk means this" or "punk means that" bullsh*t.

Not bad. smile.gif

999 was great! Charred Hearts got a brilliant reception, and managed to move a lot of merchandise. The Bleach Boys were good as were Freedom Faction. Kisemetik ruined the night, shame they were on just before 999.

999 themselves were amazing! Nick Cash still puts so much energy into every song. I got ahold of the mic a few times during the night. Though it was hard fighting through the crowd to get to it. Everyone there was a dedicated fan and knew every word. Though you had to be to see them there; the venue was in the middle of nowhere and almost impossible to find.

Im gonna try and get a ticket for the Rebellion festival. Anyone going?

Im sick of hearing this "Punk is about the attitude" when clearly its about the music with an element of their own attitude to back it up.

As far as I know, Damien should be going as well. That is, if he can get a job by then. Haha.

I currently live in a small town in Pennsylvania (USA) thats about 2500-5000 people, so there isnt one here I know of. The closest place to me that has anything is Pittsburgh (home of Aus-Rotten) but I still do not have my drivers license so I can't get out there much. My home town of Columbus, Ohio has a decent scene but my family doesn't have enough money to get the f*ck out of these backwoods redneck places and move back there. I heard Pittsburgh's is alright though I'll have to look into it more.

I saw The Damned at Rebellion London, last December. They put on a pretty good show. Though from the look of their set-list, you wouldn't of guessed they were playing to a crowd of punk festival goers. There were a lot of later goth rock and prog-rock stuff in there. Some of which didn't go down to well with the crowd.

The band I'm most excited about seeing is The Adicts. They're a great band, with a large fanbase who you know is just going to make the gig amazing for everybody else. Their fans don't strike me as the sort of people who are going to be elitist, circle-pitting assholes like some of the band's fans.

Then of course there's all the other bands I want to see. To many to list right now. But overall it should be a good weekend.

I like the Adicts, awesome, I love "Viva la revolucion" brilliant that is.

I personally cant wait for may when I see SLF. Ive already seen them once before, in Liverpool, sheer quality.
