Reporting Posts/Topics

Hi

Um ok so Prior to last weekend I could report posts no problem. Now when I try to report a post or topic I get the message saying this post has been reported already.

When this happened to me I figured someone has already reported the topic so I tryed it again on a different topic. Same thing. So I then made a post and clicked the report post thing right after I posted it and there was no one looking at the topic and I clicked report post on my post and I got the same message saying this post has been reported allready.

I figured mabee that I was reporting too much stuff that was unesscary and mabee a mod disabled it on my account or something but I at least figured if a mod did this they would send me a PM or put something in my Member Log.

One thing I thoguht about is that last weekend I reported a topic asking it to be locked and Waddy responded by telling me to stop being such and ass. I thought mabee he took away my ability for this reason. It fits because ever since then I can't report posts so... whatsthat.gif

So um If a mod or admin did disable it could you please tell why you did so, and also if a mod or admin could tell me if I am banned from reporting posts/topics by checking my profile or how ever you would do something like it.

Thanks

-Ryan

We call that report system abuse. You can't go around reporting posts all willy nilly they you have been. You have to have a legit reason.

I wasn't abusing the repost system. I was only reporting thats that should be locked or moved. I reported a few spammy posts but I didn't just go around to every post and report it.

What I ment in my original post was I thoguht as a posiablity that mabee I was reporting to much stuff to be locked and stuff, and they just got sick of me and took away my ability to report posts.

You're probably more sensitive than we are in the community here. There's no reason for you to be reporting piles of posts. Not every off-topic comment deserves reporting- only the ones that cause problems or can be disruptive. There's a bit of leniency in that regard so long as you don't make an ass of yourself.

Yeah, that happened.

Hey Ryan, if at all you're handed back your reporting ability, here are a few pointers:

• Report a topic only if

1. It contains warez.

2. There are too many spam (irrelevant to the topic) posts.

3. The topic itself is spam.

4. The topic starter has requested a lock.

5. Someone has bumped an old topic with a meaningless post.

• Post in the reported topic only if you want to convey something to the topic starter before the topic gets locked.

• Don't post single words like 'Spam' or 'Reported'. If the topic contains all spam, no need to post at all. Just report.

• Always report the first post of the topic and not just any random post from the topic. It helps the moderator to sort out the reports.

Also i think if you do that you get a verbal warning maybe.

I don't care if it was sarcastic; you've already been warned for that sort of stuff and we're trying to discourage useless posts in the rather formal Network forums.

Consider this a general message to everyone, kthx.

• Report a topic only if

1. It contains warez.

When ever I saw a topic with warez I reported it.

2. There are too many spam (irrelevant to the topic) posts.

If someone made a spam post that was off topic I reported it most of the time.

3. The topic itself is spam.

I reported these.

4. The topic starter has requested a lock.

Never really encountered any of these.

5. Someone has bumped an old topic with a meaningless post.

If someone did this I just made a post to say dont bump old topics. Never really reported it unless they did it repeatedley.

I usally let the mod deal with it.

• Don't post single words like 'Spam' or 'Reported'. If the topic contains all spam, no need to post at all. Just report.

I think I only did this once or twice. I didn't do it alot.

• Always report the first post of the topic and not just any random post from the topic. It helps the moderator to sort out the reports.

I either always click the first post of the topic or the last post, or the post which contains the spam or warex, ect.

Um yeah, Its not really that big a deal to me about this, but I was reporting quite a few posts, of which they all had a reason to be locked or moved, or whatever. I wasn't just running around and reporting everytopic or the hell of it. I only reported the topic that needed to be reported. I was just trying to help out. I wasn't trying to casue difficulties, or be troble for the mods/admins.

This probley wont happen, but however If givin back to me, I'll be more carefull with what to report and not to waste the mods time with reporting stupid stuff.

I just checked for the heck of it and someone gave me the ability back. Thanks to whoever did it. I guess Justin. icon14.gif
