Manual Shift

Has there been any game that has tried to pull off this dynamic? (And I don't mean just tapping one button to change gears.) I think it would feel a hell of a lot more powerful and you'd really get a sense of the engine's power, torque, and your traction on the road.

Need For Speed: Pro Street.

You have the option of =

Automatic, Manual, Manual Clutch.

I'm in a minority here, but I like this idea. It always bugged me when, in the previous games, you'd be able to drive an automatic semi.

if it was an option, then i wouldnt mind. But if you were forced to use it in some cars, then hell no.

I think it should be optional.

I think it would be if it were basic R1 up gear L1 down gear, but he wants clutch control too. I dont want to have to be concentrating when im cruising along. "OK, i have to press the clutch, shift into first release the clutch Oh f*ck, too early i stalled it " suicidal.gif

Too overboard on realism. If you could see in some cars that they were auto or manual tranny then that would be OK, but there's no reason and if this level of detail was put in the game there'd be too many different controls and would just make the game a pain to play.

 

Manual gear shifting in games should only really be used with an actual stick and wheel combo (imo), even then you don't see many with a clutch option (if any?)

 

Next we'll have to spin the right stick around to open doors and use the left stick to clsoe it behind us!

It basically has to be optional, or i would annoy too many players.

 

 

Maybe a bit higher speed if using manual as a reward?

I think people forget what kind of game this is. Although I am not opposed to shifting....I guess, all the buttons pretty much are mapped to actions we need more then shifting.

I'll say this.

 

If the player has to manually shift that would be a pain in the ass

 

but if niko just does it

 

(which is possible cuz people being able to look in & adjust there mirrors is confirmed)

 

that would be pretty cool but I'd rather them focus on other core things in the game. Thats more of a polish(Things like this could be a reason for the delay)

it would be a good idea if only SOME cars were manual, not everyone you got in, and they would have to be few and you would have to be able to tell before you stole it/got in.

 

Providing you know which cars are manuals (cars should be auto with some manual counter parts and maybe a few only manual cars) it would be good

I drive a manual in real life, but I don't think it would work as well in GTA. With your idea, how are you supposed to steer the car? Shoot? Etc...

 

On top of that, a (good) stick driver should never have to look down at the gear shift. You already know where the gears are, you just have to feel it in the shift.
