Though, I think running is more about Cardiovascular or Endurance, rather than strength training.

It's also a good way to lose weight. icon14.gif

Start playing some sports like floor ball, it's fun and your heart, feet, hands and agility gets better.

Problem with a sport like that is you can't do it regularly with one person everyday. usually I work out for almost a whole semester and people I work out with always quit.

Damn I really don't need to lose weight I'm already f'n skinny. I think I'll run with weight cuffs too to strenthen my arms.

I used to run with leg weights, which did wonders for my speed before my school's football season. Running isn't going to help you very much with building muscle, though, and I'd just take up weight training at a local gym or something.

Working out with a balance is important too, since a lot of injuries come from a lack of it.

You keep talking about semesters so I assume you're in college. Personally, me and a couple friends would go to the gym on campus twice a week for the first few weeks of the year, and then we all quit. Considering I need to lose weight more than bulk up, I started doing cardio like the elliptical and treadmill by myself, and since there was no one else to quit and stop me from going, I went everyday. For you, though, I'd think the weight room is better than jogging, since jogging won't really do much more for you appearance-wise. You could always do both, though. smile.gif

My doctor said to lay off the weights cuz I've been having back problems. I'd still like to train my biceps though I don't think that would hurt.

Oh, didn't know that. Sorry.

Oop... I almost forgot. I won't be able to make it fellas. Veronica and I trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it's jogging or yogging. It might be a soft j. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

i used to run a lot when i was practicing boxing but now because of school i don't have much time.

i miss running, sometimes i feel like i should go and run as far and fast i can.

if you start running for some weeks you will feel some pleasure in it.

your feet muscles will evolve over time if you do jogging but you have to know how to step on the ground so you won't get tired fast.

i must go back to practice i miss all the pain (pain in all the body from exercising not from taking hits)

i recommend you jogging because you will be able to run more than your friends.

Ive been getting ready for USAF BT.

I have a routine I do 3-4 days out of the week or every other day. Ive just started this though, I used to just use weights and my punching bag. Also Ive just kicked cigs.

About 45 minutes:

5-7 minutes of streching

40 pushups

55 situps

20 minute run

I switch it up here and there by hitting my bag or using the bench.

My brother went to the air force he said Basic training isn't to hard.

I wanted to go to USAFA just cuz of the pranks you could do on 100s night.

I've started this new thing recently, I think it's called yogging. I'm not sure if it's jogging or yogging, it might be a silent 'J'.

Jogging's great, especially if you do it first thing in the morning. Increases your stamina, gets the blood flowing, keeps you fit.

What the hecks this whole "I've started this new thing recently, I think it's called yogging. I'm not sure if it's jogging or yogging, it might be a silent 'J'.", it's been said like twice here dontgetit.gif

Anyways, at OP, like others have said it's mainly a cardiovascular exercise. But that's not to say it won't work out muscles, but of course it'll mainly do your legs, particularly the calves and tibialis anterior (the muscle in the front of your lower leg in front of your calves), and quadriceps (front upper leg muscle group) as well as some work on the glutes (butt muscle) and ham strings (back leg muscles).

Since your skinny it'll probably be mainly building up stamina for you. You could get ankle weights, you just wrap them around your ankles and get to jogging.

I wish I could jog, but currently I'm too fat and I get bad shin splints, even when I was 170lbs it would get bad under heavy running. I'd be able to drop tons more weight if I could do more than walking... but until I get down to a safe weight, it's walking for me confused.gif

I need to get some work out equipment, as my schedule warrants no proper time to go to the gym, sadly.

I haven't read the entire thread so I must have missed the first one. It's based off of the quote from Anchorman.

Well, jogging helps with

  • Endurance
  • Burns Calories
  • Leg Muscles

Now, also jogging/running can be harmful to your knees as pressure is placed on the knees with every step, but I wouldn't worry about that unless you have suffered a knee injury of some sort, or have knee problems.

It also should be noted that I play 4 sports.

How much would it help someone looking to loose weight and not gain muscle?

For people not looking to gain muscle, it would help very much.

If you're looking to gain muscle, stick to the weight room.

The fact that Ron Burgundy went jogging means that jogging is the greatest physical activity ever.

If you don't agree I will fight you. That is no lie.

There's nothing much to say, as it's all been said before. To reinforce a few points, it's great if you're hoping to lose weight, and it's a great cardiovascular (heart/veins/arteries) work out.
