Handy trick to get all GTA's working on Vista

It all started here -> http://forum.mtasa.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=21565 | http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=307992

So what this means is that you can delete [.set] file, turn off all the compatibility mode options, and you will still get a working mouse in both San Andreas and Vice City. This issue I believe fixes also the random mouse freezes at the main menu and the camera freeze during gameplay, which will then soon result in a crash.

What was the solution all along was to simply set the CPU priority for the game to "Below Normal" or "Low".

Oh, another thing that works is to use 3D-Analyze and run the game in a window (the only setting that you need to choose). Then, set the resolution to the same resolution as Windows. You should notice that the mouse won't freeze! Note: Windows-mode does not really mean you will be running the game in a window, since you are able to set the resolution to higher levels to fit the entire width and height of your monitor. http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/download/ | http://files.filefront.com/3d+analyzezip/;...;/fileinfo.html

WTF guys?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled Windows Vista (somebody said he ran it without compatibility mode on Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and so he tempted me to start over my computer fresh). To my glorious surpise - it actually fix all the mouse freeze issues!

So it was a FUKKING update all along that messes up Vista!

Question: When will I ever use the Windows Update service now? lol.gif

Anybody else who is having issues, uninstall ALL the Windows Updates for your Windows Vista operating system!

SORRY GUYS IT WASN'T WINDOWS UPDATE AT ALL!!! IT WAS MY REALTEK AC'97 SOUND CARD DRIVERS! CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS? SOMETHING IS BUGGY GOING IN THE SOUTHBRIDGE AREA ON MY MOTHERBOARD AND IT'S ALL REALTEK'S FAULT. IT IS KINDA BUGGING UP THE CPU FOR SOME REASON I DON'T KNOW.

This is why it's better to buy products that are not built into the motherboard. Always buy expansion slot cards, unless there are proper drivers for your onboard chipset.

No, the Realtek AC'97 sound card drivers for Vista are the main reason why there are freezes at the main menu randomly. It didn't happen on XP so it's definitely something wrong with the drivers!

And I didn't say my sound was messy and distorted.

UPDATE: Just to let people know what I did. I had to uninstall my Realtek sound card drivers which will of course leave me without sound. The only real fix is to lower the CPU priority or buy a Creative Sound Blaster expansion card. Also, in any GTA game, I would try to go inside the main menu first before actually trying to press on ALT-TAB right away while you are currently playing (a mouse freeze will be expected during re-entry).
