xheartshapebox
Hey Dont flame me for this thread, its not a suggestion just something i'd like to know out of intrest. Previous gta games (not all) have been based loosely around certain films, vice city making obvious references to scarface etc. Personally, i can see the final scene in Taxi Driver appearing as a mission, bursting into a whore house and rescuing a prostitute. I dont know why, i know its not in the same time period or anything, but to me the game has the same image as that film, with the whole taxi company thing. I was wondering if anyone has any clues as to what film IV will be based on, or if any references will be made (if any)?

Darrel
The funny this is Dan actually said the game hasn't been influenced by any film. They are trying to achieve an original story without much reference to films.
ishouldntbehere
they said previous games were all inspired by classic mobster films. But they said for IV, sine it is more realistic, they are not being inspired by any particular movie, but rather by the city of New York itself-- this is a new direction for GTA, but i think the creators are keeping it from getting stale. There may be references to some movies, but generally, it's based on the real-life New York.
GTA3Freak-2001
I am sure there will be many small references to movies and TV shows based in New York but it doesn't seem to be a major basis for the story being based on any specific film like Vice City which is a good way to have both an original story and the references us as fans like finding and documenting. GTASIX
Exploder X or Heavy Weapons I cant remember right now, but thats based on something.
TheRoper
^Heavy Weapons is a take on the Lethal Weapon movies, but I don't know if it goes any further than simple billboard ads. The only one I can think of at the moment would be "The Professional" but that's mostly because Niko looks like Jean Reno, as has been said many times before. But as some others said earlier in the topic, R* are trying to have an original story this time, though I'm sure there will be minor references during some missions. $$$ MAKE MONEY WITH NEOBUX $$H
ceedot
It's not based on a movie. I remember reading Dan saying something along the lines that the game will have pretty much no movie references, and will be entirely new.
sdda5000
It would be funny if they referenced "Coming to America" by Eddie murphy.

ceedot
It would be funny if they referenced "Coming to America" by Eddie murphy. lol it would be funny to reference it. Like he has to work at Clucking Bell. Eddie was a Prince in his country though. I really think the story will be more serious than ever. Niko's story seems strong, and would connect to many people. BobbyUK
i think the tone will fit with many films within popular crime fiction but i can't see the story actually "borrowing" from these films, for example the driving section in the second trailer had a certain 70s french connection type feeling but it won't obviously be refrenced, it's just in tune with that era of cinema and new york. you obviously want the gun fights to have the kinetic feeling that films like heat create but i can't see some little cop chasing you shouting WHOO HAA
