Transparanoia
Anyone else pumped for this? I'm interested to see how they improve over FFXII, which was a really weak game. It looked f*cking fantastic, but that was about it. Hopefully we'll see something on par with FFVII/VIII/X. Anyway, discuss.

Glycerine
I've been waiting for this game for awhile now. I really wish they would re-make Final Fantasy VII. If they did that my social life would be over. Is there a release date for FF XIII yet?
Mark
As long as the storyline is on par with VI or VII, then f*ck the graphics. Late SNES early PS days were the best for the series.

Hoping for something on par with X is like asking for a downgrade... You'll have explain to me how... There was zero character development, the story sucked, no interaction between the characters, the fact that everyone can be awesome at everything means there is no other reason to use any of the other characters and it was hella easy. The best thing about it was Ivalice. The world was great, but everything else ruined the experience. X was a great game. Where XII disappointed, X does well. Not to mention the Sphere Grid is probably the best system I've ever used in an RPG. Oh... And Blitzball!
DarthTemplar
VI VII and IX were the best in the series. I wish they would remake VII already since last time I checked on Ebay a copy is being auctioned for 500 dollars on the PS (No Joke I am being literal)

Not to mention the Sphere Grid is probably the best system I've ever used in an RPG. Oh... And Blitzball! The story was much stronger than any other post-VII Final Fantasy (and many of the earlier games, but I don't assume you've played those), and they finally broke free of the many cliches that have been riddling the series since the fourth installment. There hasn't been a FF game since before VII where you couldn't make every character well-rounded or adapt them to your liking, rather than being stuck with the general strengths and weaknesses of different characters. To me, XII was a return to form in the way you could build a character into a certain class, and even better in the way you could customize them to fit any style of play (in what other FF have you been able to build a TRUE battlemage or spellwarrior?). All the complaints you have fit better with VIII, IX, and X. And sphere grid? It was designed for RPG noobs, and unless you completely ignored it, was way too overpowering. Just like the system in VIII, it pretty much lets you beat the final boss in one hit. XII was the first Final Fantasy game I've bought since Tactics, the rest I've just rented, and so far it's been the only Squeenix release that pleases me. More proof that they should spend at least 3 years working on new FF games, or just remake VII and kill the f*cking thing already. Edit: Also, you're complaining about XII being too easy, while praising X. Last time I checked, X was the only FF game you could beat the final boss with one hit, whereas in XII, there are monsters that take hours to kill... YourNeighborhoodKiller
The series have to be one of the best ever. I have played all the games for PSOne. And I have Final Fantasy XII for PS2. I truly cannot wait for this one.

Vin.
Go back to VII / VIII and I'll be happy. If not, then I won't buy the next one, again.

Agreed about VIII though. Selphie's "The End" would kill anything you fought...and the trick of opening your PSOne disc tray meant you had infinite time to get it. Oh how stupid that idea was. err0rz0n
I'm more excited about Versus XIII than XIII. Nomura (VII's creator and director) will be directing, mainly designing, and supervising Versus. The quality of battles in the last Versus trailer is just stunning: And here's new scans for both games: These two games will rock so hard. I think we won't be able to play them untill sometime in 2009.

err0rz0n
What is Versus anyway? Is it a collection of FF characters or what? No, it's a totally new installment with new characters different from XIII's characters. The only connection between XIII and Versus XIII is that they take place in the same world; the so called "Fabula Nova Crystallis". You can get more info at its Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Versus_XIII
original gangster
I really wish they would re-make Final Fantasy VII. If they did that my social life would be over. Why? You'd be playing the same damn game only with better graphics, it's not like they'd add or change anything else. Sorry, but I don't get why so many people want a remake of VII. Bizzare
I know it'sa close minded view but I dont enjoy the idea of the main char being a women even if she has the abilty to call upon her red river to flood the enemys with girl juice. manofpeace
I'm only gonna get this game for the graphics. Is it still that sh*tty turn-based fighting? Ever since the ones on the PS, I've been skeptical of that genre.

Last time I checked, X was the only FF game you could beat the final boss with one hit, whereas in XII, there are monsters that take hours to kill... In theory that's the only way FFVII ends . The last fight against Sephiroth is impossible to lose, though. Safer Sephiroth isn't exactly easy (unless you puss out with W-Summon KoTR and Quadra Magic Ultima) and definitely can't be beaten in one hit. Is it still that sh*tty turn-based fighting? Ever since the ones on the PS, I've been skeptical of that genre. RPGs have been "turn-based" forever, why would it take you until the PS came out to realize this? What many people don't realize is that since early in the series Final Fantasy hasn't actually been "turned based" (unless you turn on "Wait" in the config menu, but that just means you suck). With ATB, you have a certain amount of time you have to wait until you can attack, heal, whatever. How long this takes depends on a lot of things, your stats, equipment, spells, and so on. This is completely independent of any sort of pre-determined order. You can theoretically attack 3 times for your opponents 1 if you were fast enough, or vice versa. Hardly turn-based in any sense of the word. Just because they stand patiently on the other side of the screen while their meter fills doesn't make it turn based. With XI (and XII) they have come up with a system that is more real-time. While it's pretty much the same in theory (you wait for a meter to fill up before you can attack), you can freely walk around the battlefield (which is the same as the map, no transitions) and avoid attacks and use strategic positioning to your advantage.
