asimov
I have only just started to listen to dubstep, it is a pretty new genre of music, only coming out in the past few years. It branched off of reggae/dub and consists mainly of intricate chopped basslines which can easily destroy speakers. For a good intro to dub check out the well known artist Rusko's myspace here and listen to "HAMMERTIME". If you don't have a sub don't bother. If you have a sub and it is pretty crappy, don't bother. It just doesn't do it justice. Some other good producers are dub police(collabrative effort), skream and caspa. I didn't really like it at first but after a while it really got me hooked. Discuss . edit - I must have been ripped when I did this post a while back, I have to tidy it up now Edited March 10, 2009 by asimov
OH NO
Yeah im liking the genre, theres tracks that will blow you away. Got some stuff by Digital Mystikz, Tech Itch, Appleblim and Shackleton (who are dropping some great stuff on Skull Disco) There was also that Burial joint last year which was a class, haunting album. I swear this sh*t is going to destroy my speakers tho, and my houses foundations.

Mark
Good call with Rusko He does some awesome tunes. One of my workmates is heavily into Dubstep plus he DJs on the weekends so normally at work he plays whatever's new that he's got hold of. Got quite a few awesome tracks from him, I must admit I don't follow the genre heavily but there are some great tunes out there. I love Mr Chips by Rusko, always play that at work, takes me back Benga's great too. Apart from the obvious tune with Coki, Night, I love his remix of Faithless - Insomnia I also love this tune: It's a little....unusual for a Dubstep artist....hell it features a guitar, but I love it. Distance is well worth a look, good stuff. No Sunshine (on the other side of this) is great too. I've been meaning to go to Fabric for absolutely ages recently. Really great place to go for Dubstep. asimov
Mark, do you actually live near the fabric club? I would be so insanley jealous if you did, that place gets the best of the best all the time. I'm also liking that Skream remix you posted in the electro topic. Distance sounds pretty good too, have to check it out. Not something Noisia do all the time, but still a great tune. I hope they do a full release. The big issue is coming back as night buses are a bitch to get back to where I am (2 hours if I'm unlucky) Oddly, I don't go as often as I'd like. I'm feeling a big night out soon though. Mister Pink
I've been to a few Dubstep nights and seen Skream play at Life-Festival. Great stuff. Wobble all the way! MOVING LIKE BERNIE
Mark
Ah well if we're talking Dubstep nights, they have one other Sunday at one of the clubs locally. I'm usually present, mainly cause it's cheap and I have Mondays off usually, but it's still arguably the best night for music.
Parky.
Piddy Py - Giggle Riddim. Behold ! Mark, you been to Fabric mate? Not too far from you, they do some sh*t hot dubstep nights Edit: NVM that. Anyone who loves Fabric, get onto their CD series, f*cking phenomenal. Sometime in the summer mark, preferably in between july/august, you fancy meeting up at Fabric for a massive rave? We've got a weekend planned down south if you're up for it.
Rhoda
I love Dubstep but I can never find any artists to listen to. A list of the more... mainstream, recognized, but equally awesome acts to be getting on with for a beginner please?
anus
@Masterkraft, Well, you can start by listening to the big names in dubstep: Benga, Coki, Skream, Emalkay, Burial, The Bug, Caspa, Rusko are some of them. Anyone mind posting some dark dubstep? I really want some dark, gritty stuff. Like this:

Uploaded by yours truly. edit and another, not sure if this is technically dubstep, but it does has a chopped slow beat, pretty evil. A list of the more... mainstream, recognized, but equally awesome acts to be getting on with for a beginner please? I posted a list with song links for someone asking exactly the same question on another forum..searching for it now.. ..cant find it for some reason. List included ..Kode 9 , Burial, Appleblim and Shackleton (Skull Disco baby) The Bug, Pinch , Gatekeeper, Hatcha, Caspa and Rusko (Africa Vip is bonkers) Milanese, Cotti..f*ck theres loads. You really need to the right sound system to hear a lot of dubstep correctly, theres tracks with certain sound frequencies that you will not hear unless you have the right set up..im not professing to be an expert on this, couple of people I know know a lot more about the technical side than me. asimov
The Prodigy - Breathe (NumberNin6 dubstep remix) Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (Rusko Chapstick Mix) I'm not going to lie, I like the original version of this song as well. Found both these on Rusko's 12-12-2008 essential mix, definately worth downloading.
