CONTINGENCY PLANS

I wonder how many ways for completing a mission there will be. Maybe it would be nice to have our contacts give us alternate routes, or b plan. Like the mission where you have to kill the lawyer , maybe we could snipe him from another building or something. Your thoughts ...

In one of the previews IGN had a while back, I recall them saying the lawyer was shot and fell through a window, they could of bought a silencer off Little Jacob to avoid the hassle afterwards, and they also chose when to strike. (They could of waited for the interview to stop)

Go to IGN, search GTA IV and look through the previews.

Goldberg starts talking, it's not a cut-scene, and we can move about and take the shot at any time during his speech: "Hello, Niko! I'm looking for a man who can get jobs done right. Nikolai, I like your resume. You seem to be the sort of man who would go the extra distance, a man who's struggled. I just need to take another look and get myself reacquainted with your experience.... So you're the sort of man who doesn't wait to get told what to do, a guy who looks at the world, sees problems, and..." - then Niko pulls his gun out. "Woah, woah, hold on second there friend! We're lawyers, we don't need guns! Strong move though, I gotta say, I like that style... I'm all about the Second Amendment... guns don't kill people, videogames do!"

And with that, Niko demands to know where the McReary files are, then puts a bullet in Goldberg before he smashes and falls through the window of his office down to the street below - that's him taken care of.

Other previewers had the lawyer Goldberg not fall through the window, so I guess the missions vary depending on how and when exactly you decide to execute your goal (no pun intended). In this instance, they didn't have to listen to his entire speech or anything else for that matter, they could have just blasted him as soon as he came into sight without going through the whole interview.

But R* has told allready that u can go trought the storyline with many different styles, and some missions will take few days.. So I guess u can choose few different ways to do the mission or what missions to do and with that result(saving the mans life u was ment to kill/kill him/taking him alive to boss), or skip the missions.

It'd be interesting to know what happens if you turn up to that interview not wearing a suit, or if you miss the appointment all together. It'd be pretty cool if you could make a new appointment and not just fail the mission because you didn't get there on time.

I started a topic on this sort of thing a while ago that can be found here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=294359&hl=

Someone even mentioned exactly what your thread-starting post mentions about killing Goldburg with a sniper rifle

Here is a copy of what I wrote to start the topic:

I created this topic to discuss the different ways that Rockstar might allow us to complete each mission. Since we only know of two missions, I will use these as examples.

In the first mission, where we have to call somebody's cell phone to identify them as our target, I can see it a couple scenarios where we could do this differently than described by the magazines.

Suppose, instead we just took a rocket launcher and started killing as many people as possible, hoping to kill him in the process, this would actually probably work.

Or maybe we could call him, to identify him, and wait for him to leave, and then kill him when there are no witnesses. This would work if Rockstar programs him to leave after waiting a certain amount of time, and drive somewhere secluded. I wouldn't put it past Rockstar to think of something like this when considering different ways to allow the player to do missions.

In the second mission with Goldberg, I can also think of a couple scenarios where we could do this differently than described by the magazines.

In the first scenario, we decide not buy a nice suit, but instead, we show up to the interview is some street clothes. Now, because we still have an appointment for the interview, we can still get into the building, because the secretary will still ring us in the door. But I'd bet we be stopped by security before getting to Goldberg, having to kill them first, making the mission more difficult yet not impossible.

Now for the second scenario, I have to mention that I recall, one of the magazines went through the missions twice and in the second round, escaped out the window onto the fire escape, and made a flee for safety, and avoiding the firefight, which always resulted in Niko’s death. This makes me think it might be possible after setting up an interview time with Goldberg, perhaps Rockstar would allow the possibility to break into the building through this window and kill Goldberg in his office, allowing us to save two-grand on a nice new suit, that we don't really need, and possibly even a wanted level at all.

Just some ideas I was thinking about and wanted to share them with the community.

If you have any ideas of your own like this, let me know what you think, post away.

Your comments are appreciated.

I remember reading that each people in Liberty City remember you, so it can have a postive or negative influence on missions you do when you meet some people again !

Hopefully it's not like Assassins Creed where you're trying to accomplish something and some idiot comes along and pushes you, or asks for money and blows your cover and sabotages your goal. I hated those bastards.

One of the things that is most common, is doing missions with different approaches, more so in GTA, but not really exclusive to it. I think if you wonder how many ways, due to cut scenes inbetween, not too many, if more then old GTAs

We also have seen the change of cut-scenes, as they be somewhat interactive. I am refering to the Goldburg interview where we are given the choice as when to pull out our gun and kill him, but is is somewhat of a cutscene as well. Before, we couldn't pull a gun durring a cutscene, but perhaps we will se many in GTA4 where we can. I at least hope so.
