crux989
A calender can be seen to the right of Niko by the cabinet doors above the sink. thats called a window. do you have a window above your sink or do you have a calender? He's right, it's a window. There just happens to be a scantly clad supermodel posing against a white back drop just outside this window. It happens to all people who live in New York. f*ckin HEElarious And to answer the previous question: I have neither over my sink. Its an island. But if I had a chance I would definitely have a super model standing over it.

Mmjr3
A calender can be seen to the right of Niko by the cabinet doors above the sink. thats called a window. do you have a window above your sink or do you have a calender? It can be agreed that Roman lives in an apartment. If you look at the screenshot the light is coming in from the front of the apartment. Most apartments in NYC only have front windows or back windows depending on the building itself or what side of the building your apartment is on. So if the light is coming in from the front there would be a wall over the sink, where on the other side of the wall was another apartment. not another window, as it would be a pleasant view of your neighbors apt. My old apt...no window over my sink in the kitchen...there was a wall. ...I did however install a window so that I could open it for the "fresh" air that smelled like a 69 year old Chinese woman whose apt always seemed to sound and smell like she was cooking cats. Kelao
You post pointless threads so don't be a bloody hypocrit mate. Remember the poll about people wanting to ban you? That's right. Oooh, burn! I'd love to see holidays and season in the game. I always thought it was stupid for the GTA games not to incorporate this. In order to progress a story, time needs to progress too. And with time comes seasons and holidays.

CarpetDweller
Firstly, anyone that wants a better look at that calandar should just look at the trailer at 0:21. You see it from a better angle and closer. It is definitely a calendar, not a window. Not that it's relevant either way as they had calandars on walls in the previous games. Edit: that close-up was posted since I typed this. --- The problem with holidays comes by how you define "calendar" and how closely you want it to fit to the real world events. We haven't had any real proof of seasons. We also haven't had proof of if (as a lot of people seem to think) the calendar would follow every specific day (Monday January 1st, Tuesday January 2, Wed Jan 3, etc). The only information we have if that Kiziko preview which throws in the term "Daily Calendar" in with other functions of the phone. The term Calendar generally refers to a 1 year period divided into days, weeks & months. However it can also be defined as "a chronologically arranged list of special events". So specific dates such as October 16th 2007 might not appear. It might just be like in San Andreas where they showed the 7 days of the week. It could show which day is TODAY and what appointments you have set up. Previous GTA games seem to have been set at one particular date. No matter how many game-days you played Vice City for it is still the same season in 1986. The days go by, but the months don't. Will they change this in IV. I very much doubt we will see specific dates. How I continue with this post really hinges on the how GTAIV follows the progression of time. Here's some options as I see it: A. As before, each day is 24 minutes long (Maybe increase to 48). There aren't seasons, months or years. B As before, each day is 24 (or 48) minutes long. There is no record of which month we are in but after specific missions the season changes (should be gradual over a few days). Effectively when the year cycle is complete we start a new year. It is up to the player to decide if this is now 2008, 2009 or just "modern day"). C The ingame day & date follow the real world to the exact second. If it is midnight on New Years Eve where you are then it also is in game. If they go with the above option B holidays could work as follows: The "calendar" only shows between 7 and 30 days. 14 would be best I think. Your appointments and holidays appear on that and you can't make appointments for more than a week in the future. We would never know the specific date, just know which day of the week it is. The season change is mission based until the storyline is complete, then it follows a cycle. Therefore Holidays also depend on the missions you are currently on. So you pass a specific mission and St. Patricks day appears on your calendar for 7 days in the future. Then seven game-days later you see decorations, costumes (like silly hats) and maybe a parade. I don't really expect it, but it would be a nice touch to show holidays reflected in IV. Downloading events Another way to do it would be to download them if you want them, but not have them in the normal game. So if I feel in a festive mood I download the Christmas theme which replaces some textures, has snow everywhere, Christmas trees and snowmen, extra christmassy music and talk on the radio and some decorations on homes or shop windows. That way it wouldn't effect your main game and be optional. If they are optional downloads I'd probably be interested in: Christmas Halloween Liberty City celebration - some kind of centenary celebration of the city. Independence day - if everything goes extremely patriotic. St.Patricks Day - if they include a huge parade that I can interact with. If they threw in 1,2 or 3 new holiday-themed missions with each download then I'd definitely get them. It would be a great way to extend the gameplay until the next game. CookPassBabtridge
Just to add to that, the calendar system will almost certainly be part of the cell phone interface, so it is accessible at all times. The calendar texture is just that, a texture. As for seasons, im all for it. Its gonna add atmosphere even if it stays really basic. Even Animal Crossing DS has a seasons system, which is realtime. It could work Ok if, like Carpetdweller talks about, there is blocks of time speeded up etc. Unlockable halloween and Santa costumes ftw

CarpetDweller
I was just wandering why anyone would be opposed to a real, seasonal calender. I think it would be a nice touch We're getting slightly off topic, but my problem was only if you have everyday of the year accounted for so that we play through each day and the seasons were tied to that structure. If you divide the year into 4 seasons it means each season is 91.25 days. If they keep 1 hour = 1 minute then that means that you'd have to play for almost 4 complete days before the season changed. Or if you played for 4 hours every day then it might take 23 days to get to the next season. I could see it as perfectly possible to play through the whole storyline without moving onto the next season. If seasons aren't tied to your progress through the missions, then one person might find their missions much harder than other players due to ice & snow for example. BTW: You weren't "wandering". You were "Wondering". [Pet peeve of mine - sorry] Edited January 17, 2008 by carpetdweller
