Where is RockStars Biggest Market?

Recommended Posts

Just curious as to where most of their fan base is. You think it has a lot to do with where they base their cities off of? Say if they make the next GTA based in some city in Europe, You think the sales in America would be surpassed? I know ill get the game regardless of the location. How much of a difference you think it makes?

Rockstars reason for taking it back to Liberty City, or New York is basically because it was their first city in GTA 1, it was in GTA Advanced, and their first major game, GTA III. They wanted to create a city they have always dreamt of. This was their chance.

The next GTA could be anywhere, but not based on what cities had bought the most copies.

Basically what cities would be fun to play in.

No way, it doesn't matter where a game is based.

The biggest markets for any console/game manufacures are the european terrotries.

I think the average american buys at least 2 games a month, But in europe that average is 5 a month if i remeber correctly

so they are gonna buy the same game 5 times? your logic is flawed

i did not mean rockstar on there own, i meant the games industry in general, so in other words the european market buys more games than america, Its like mobile phones america has around 50% of the population having a phone and the UK has over 110% (before you say 110% thats immposible its not if a person own 2 mobiles which some do)

so in answer to your question rockstar will get more sales in the uk.

hell i brought 2 copys of san andreas and my friend is on his third copy

and if you include the pc version i got 2 days ago i have brought 3 copys now

To be honest. I wouldn't want it anywhere else, Liberty City is the Perfect setting for Niko...To try and live the American Dream and to start it off in New York is perfect. smile.gif

for the ones who think the biggest market for the game industry might be the UK over the US, you should take a look at the population.

UK population: around 70 000 000

US population: around 290 000 000

Its pretty obvious that the US buys the most copies, despite the fact that the average 'british' migt buy more games in general.

however if you look at Europe in total with the population of 730 millions, it might be more comparable to the US. I still think the US sells the most though...

Well the UK certainly doesn't buy more games (in terms of overall sales figures) than the US and it would stupid to think they do. The whole of Europe though, including the UK does in general buy more games than the US.

Off topic: Little pet peeve here, oysterbarron, there's no 'r' in bought.

Not possible. 110% is not possible. In order to have even 100%, that means EVERY single person in the UK would have to have a cell phone, and then 10% of them would have to have 2 phones. Not every single person in the UK has a cell phone.

And about the games, I agree that the whole Europe might buy games, but Europe has many countries, US just is one country, so in terms of just one country, I think the US would be ahead.

Or more like 10% of them would have ANY amount larger than 1.

But yeah, that's bullsh*t. Even here in Finland it's something like 70-90%, and you're the ones using our phones.. I think we love our Nokia more than you do catloaf_by_anuj.gif

There are about 61 million people in the UK and about 55 million mobile phones, which means about 90% of people in Britain own a mobile phone on average.

my figures were on the news about 2 weeks ago i remeber seeing it. because they even said that there were more mobiles than people in his country now.

U.K Is'nt a market on its own though its the PAL Terrortories and if you look at the population for that just taking europe.

US population: around 290 000 000

Europe population 710,000,000

More than double that of the US

You guys say that Europe has double the population, but you seem to forget that in that there is included third world countries. Now the last thing on their mind is to pay 60$ on some game... Not just third world countries but most if not all European countries have a lot of rural communities, which some probably have never ever heard of consoles before. I think the reason that the United States gets the first taste of new releases is because most of the game companies are based in the United States, so it would make much more sense to launch a title there.

GTA 4 fansites like this one? ~shrug~.

I take that back. We might not be the biggest, but wed be the most loyalist. icon14.gif

The UK are the biggest fanbase in proportion to population over any other country because between 60-70 million people make up 25% of GTA sales, North America of over 290-300+ million people only make up 50% of GTA sales in comparison. Europe is a bigger target market given the enlargement of the EU to include eastern european countries, but the average income levels in the majority of European countries are well below those of the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, etc. The US and Canada in reality is the larger market for gaming because the consumers are much more affluent, see the CIA factbook or the UN website for more details.

I thought you were implying that the north american market are the biggest fans when clearly they aren't holding the side up quite as well as the UK.
