dragonrock
I hope there will bve less tone-deaf. I can't believe how many people think they sing good. What are your views on American Idol? I like the show and all, but like football, I don' think it is a big deal

I bet Austrailia has some great shows too Yeah, we get all of your major shows, we have Australian Idol. Chanel 10 here pretty much lives off of U.S. programs like The Simpsons, Futurama, Law & Order and when we don't have seasons running of shows like Aus Idol or the fat show (otherwise known as The Biggest Loser), we just play yours. Runey
American Idol is gay So are you, so you should tune in. Anyway, I love the first episodes where people really suck and think they're the best singers in the world.
Oblivionz
Anyway, I love the first episodes where people really suck and think they're the best singers in the world. Yeah, same here. That's the only part I ever watch of American Idol.
Picolini
Anyway, I love the first episodes where people really suck and think they're the best singers in the world. Yeah, same here. That's the only part I ever watch of American Idol. Damn straight, first couple episodes are hilarious. I saw it tonight. The few I remember are the glitter girl (f*cking nuts), black dude with the peanut head, goofy eyes and lips that sang with a really deep retarded voice, that fat guy that dressed as a belly dancer and waxed his chest hair and didn't even really sing... oh my. People out there.. Oh, and that creepy stalker guy that kept staring down Paula and walking closer and closer, the guy that Simon had security escort out It's also great when they tell them it was bad and they keep trying to sing, as if it'd change their minds. I don't get it... they've gotta be deaf or mentally ill.

Quadropheniac90
Same, auditions only. (We have a Dutch version as well of course. ) The way to ruin any chance on being recognised as an artist is participating in this crap. Of course many people prove me wrong on this one because they actually think these people are artists.
Picolini
Well I'd say that the people who make it to the near end, like the last 2-3 usually make it pretty big. For some reason, most of it's all crap. Out of the entire series the only person on the show that I've enjoyed was that Daughtry guy. Everything else is crap... darthYENIK
I hope this f*cking show fades away soon. It's probably the worst show on TV. It just perpetuates the lie that these teeny bopper assholes have any form of talent. I mean, they don't write their own music. They all sound similar. They win half the show purely on looks. And are just handed a record deal, without a shred of real work.
Digïtál £vîl
I hate to say it but I sometimes watch the auditions part during the premiere week. It is like a train wreck to me. and I just can't look away once I end up on the channel (and that is only if I stumble upon Fox during the night). I only watch the auditions for the crazy people and the people who are oblivious to how sh*tty they sing. I usually watch it with the volume on low and turn it up when I see a real train wreck of an audition going on. Once the initial auditions end though, I wont follow the show at all and I really think they should only go around the country auditioning people and airing that. Far more entertaining than the actual contest part. Anything past the very initial auditions should be banned from TV.
Vanilla Shake
Yeah, best part by far is watching the freaks come out and make complete asses out of themselves on national television. TC718 / <629 / CF5
Runey
They win half the show purely on looks. Or if they have some boo-hoo sad story.
Tsuroki
There are only a handful of "reality" shows that I can stomach, and American Idol (Canadian Idol here, too) is definitely NOT one of them. Call me gay (I dare you, I yield the almighty Banhammer™, remember?), but I prefer interior design reality shows that focus on renovations, or stuff like Holmes on Homes. I never intend to be a home owner (not any time soon, at least), but I do find the stuff relatively interesting.
Forty
I hate the competition parts of the show. I think the entire contest and process of competing is lame, and most of the people they keep around are not very good or extremely poppy and cookie-cutter models of each other. The auditions, however, are the best television of the year. Talk about enter-f*cking-tainment. Some of the best and worst talent you'll ever see collected in one place. I laugh my ass off royally through the first several episodes, and then I promptly stop watching until next year.
Spartacus
Don't forget the judges. American Idol would be nothing without them. But yeah, I only watch it for the auditions, too. Although I did watch a few episodes last year just to see Sanjaya sing. Edit: Gravedig. Oh well.
RARusk
I don't watch the show. However, last season was rather interesting. I live in San Antonio, TX and one of the auditions was held at the AlamoDome. There was one guy who made it to the next level wearing a full Batman outfit (he sang "Hero"). He definitely didn't make it much further than that. But what made it really interesting was that the one person from San Antonio who made it into the main portion of the show, Haley Scarnato, is actually a cousin of mine (third). So me and my mother kept watch on the show hoping she would make it far. She finished eighth. Last I heard she was in New York for some gathering and was seen with Blake (one of the other contestants from last year). She is also recording an album in Nashville (I think). Many people complain about the performances on the show. From what I could gather from Haley's experience is that the show is a long grind em' up. Many of the performers, including Haley, enjoy their singing and perform best in a somewhat relaxed environment. But the show puts a lot of pressure on the performers and it feels more like a chore than anything else and they can't enjoy what they do. This hurts the performers and results in sub-standard routines. If they could somehow ease up on the performers a bit then they can enjoy themselves a lot more and their performances can improve which gives the viewers a better sense of how talented the performers really are (and have better routines which will make the show more tolerable). But I don't see that happening anytime soon. "One day I will think of this as just another job. After all, this is what I do."
