Xbox 360 problem

SmK

Recommended Posts

I read in the manual that you can connect mp3 players and storage devices to your xbox 360, through the USB ports.

So I did with my Seagate 500 GB hard disk, and NOTHING happens. I tried to turn the Xbox on and off and unplug the hard drive and plug it in again, but it does'nt show up on the Xbox (under the storage devices menu ). Which it should -I guess.

Do I have to install drivers or something like that? I dont think I have drivers since I build the external hard disk myself from an internal seagate hard disk and an external box.

Is it even possible to connect an external harddrive to your Xbox?

My guess would be that it has to be formatted in FAT or FAT32. All my FAT32 devices (4 MP3 players, 3 USB drives) work, haven't tried an NTFS drive.

Or put the hard drive inside the computer on your home network, and add your music to the library in Windows Media Player, then turn on file sharing with the 360. That's what I did, and there are no messy cords or extra sh*t plugged in anywhere. It all plays seamlessly via the network.

Storage devices in the USB Port(s) can only be used to play videos/music and view photos, as far as I know, it's impossible to get them to work the same way as the HDD/Memory Unit do.

However, there is a solution *cough cough* lol joke wink.gif

Whether that ONE feature is worth a whole new deal is up to you. I'd say

just hook up your xbox to the pc, pc to the 500 gb, let the pc mediate smile.gif

Yeh I used a generic 1gb flash drive and it worked (didnt think it would though). Only reason I did this is because my computer isnt showing up when I try to connect...weird.

I believe that you have to enable media sharing on your computer(s) in Windows Media Player, then they will show up. If you don't enable it, you won't see any computers at all.

Thank you for the help, thats what I need to do.

Is windows sufficient for formatting or are there any other better programs?

Plug 'er into your Windows machine, create a backup, quick format as FAT32, and plug 'er into the 360. Total time - 2 minutes (not including backup).

My problem is this this; It doesn't give me the possibility to format to FAT32.. What am I doing wrong?
