A Really intelligent question...

GTAIV-NewYork

Yo, I've always forseen in my mind that GTA IV will be the most succsessful game until the next GTA is released, but there is only one problem I have even though I know nothing about it.

So, in GTA III and Vice City, when you go up to your knees in water, you drown a horrible death. In San Andreas and even the two psp "stories" remakes, you can swim in the water. I don't know much about those 2 games though, correct me if I'm wrong. This is great, however when you swim out too far, nothing happens and you are swimming in a never-ending sea. It's as unreal as the Cop cheat is. The question is, in GTA IV, what will Rockstar do about this? Will they repeat what they did in San Andreas? I've even heard some people say there will be a never ending forested land. mercie_blink.gif

Perhaps R* will, and in my mind, this is the best thing to do, have the sea, and you can see islands ahead, and when Niko swims out too far he starts to realistically drown and you wake up outside the hospital. But then what happens when you're driving a boat?

Long stories short, what do you think about what Rockstar or atleast what you hope they'll do about this situation?

well they have to limit u to san andreas somehow u know, so untill GTA XVIIX : THE Whole World they will have to that stuff

BTW u cant swim in LCS

seriouslycrazy
I'm leaning towards the idea of the never ending sea, or a invisible barrier like they have in Oblivion.

yea either that or something similar to crackdown where you end up on the opposite side of the map (as if you've done a full circle) but personally i think the never ending sea is best.

Yeah sorry I didn't know that, never played it. And I forgot to mention the invisible barrier, that's a great idea.

I think different never-ending parts would be good.

Like on one side of the map there's the never ending sea, on the other its a never ending freeway/motorway.

If that motorway was online and the online mode allowed pony farm, there'd be some epic races!

I made a topic about this before and i mentioned that the map shown on the boat shows land that is connected to other land like in GTA 3 in the north of shoreside vale, maybe there will be another tunnel that takes you upstate like in GTA 3?

How about having cops shooting you from helicopters,as if you are trying to go into international waters and they are just restricting you from doing that. That could be a nice solution and a realistic one unlike invisible walls or neverending sea/forest etc.

Like in Mercenaries when you entered a Restricted Area or locked they would send in Airstrikes.(Like a HOLY BATMAN JESUS BUTTLOAD OF EM) I would think that, like in WoW (Yeah I play that game) If you swim out too far you get a Fatigue bar when it runs out you get tired and drown. As for Boats and Helo's they could have a Gas meter that runs out fairly quickly and when thats out boat stops, and unrealisticly sinks and helo goes brrrrrrsplat. Another option would be for neverending sea with vehicles, with San Andreas there was a limit, it sort of kept you suspended in one area with the water appearing to move, and if you wanted to turn you would and all, but you stayed Suspended in one area until approaching Liberty City waters. (Sorry, its hard to explain whatsthat.gif )

Who said you're in NYC?

It might a NY's replica but that doesn't restrain R* from making up a story of some kind of international waters...

monocle.gif With a closer look at an old screenshot I saw that the sea has no visible Islands watsoever. This tells me that the borderline thing WILL BE NEVER ENDING LIKE SAN ANDREAS which i don't mind. Of course this is pure speculation so...Only time will tell.

All citizens attempting to leave the quarantined area must test negative for foot & mouth disease... Niko never passes sad.gif ... he's got mad cow.

In in reality I think there should be a force that stops him.

For example. You hop in a boat and cruise around the harbor... as you do so you notice coastguard boats patrolling the waters, and in these days of emphasized national security thats probably pretty realistic. You continue on out past the islands, but still withing viewing distance of the mainland when you notice a patrol boat come up behind you and the order to "pull over, slow down etc" is issued via police intercom (like we saw in trailer 3) at this point you know you've gone to far, and because your not legal and certainly driving a stolen boat your only option is to run, at which point you're issued a few stars. You could do two things, quick turn around and dash for the harbor where you could lose them somewhere and hide in the city, or press onwards if you think you've got a fast enough boat. You continue onward the police boats and coastguards boats in pursuit, perhaps your making distance on them and all seems good... that is when you notice a coast guard chopper come out of the sky behind you and fire warning shot across your bow, obviously you can try to dodge the shots, but eventually they'll hit the boat and start damaging it which eventually leads to our protagonist Niko getting blown out of the water, or forcing him to stop thus getting busted.

So what this does is use a general distance/perimeter from the island that will cause police attention to you. It also incorporates the endless sea, however in the open ocean its only a short matter of time before your taken out by other police/guard boats/choppers. So this creates the illusion of realism and freedom, technically you could go for miles out to sea like in real life, however you wont get far enough or spend enough time out at sea to make it really seem endless, because you'll be destroyed before you actually get a chance to notice that it is actually endless in a programming sense.

Same thing with choppers, perhaps air traffic control would come on the radio and request identification/information or whatever and your non response will cause them to scramble other helicopters or npc jets.
