saw this today on QJ.net and Maxconsole, looks like we have a rating for Europe now

http://ps3.qj.net/GTA-IV-gets-18-rating-fr...g/49/aid/111485

http://uk.playstation.com/games-media/game...to-IV%E2%84%A2/

P.S. just checked the PEGI webpage and there is no rating for IV, so Playstation UK might be wrong...

There is a lot sites where rating by pegi is 18+,but in the www.pegi.info there is nothing about GTAIV!

Exactly the article is false and misleading of course the game will get an "18" certificate but, the PEGI has not got a rating for the game yet in European territories even, check their website there is nothing on there on Grand Theft Auto IV. Also the BBFC will be handing the rating for Grand Theft Auto IV in Britain and they have not rated it yet either. Basically Australia still remains the only country that has the game officially rated. We will have to wait for the upcoming until we see the game rated elsewhere.

QJ.net is a website that often post false information, because their MANY MANY bloggers are paid per article, so they'll put up about anything. This PEGI rating has been known for what, 6 months now? It's put up on various places, but I don't think it's official as PEGI did not release anything about a video game rating yet.

For some reason I always find PEGI ratings for games on sources like Xbox.com, months before the game's release and it's then not officially rated yet...

This is old and not official. That rating was on playstation.com and xbox.com several months ago. If it's not on PEGI.info then it is not official yet.

we all knew it would get an 18. Every other GTA has got one here.

Yes of course it is going to get an 18+ rating. But when it is officially rated then probably the release date is near.

must... spam... can't... resist...

to those who says game's next to be complete because of 'official' pegi rating: we so fu**ing close to the Q2, it's obvious the game is pretty complete. There will be a rating when the game will be available. Who cares if they do rate it before or not. We all know it will be +18 Damn, dumbass, idiots, banme, whocares, tards, sh*t, f*ck, the sh*t, the f*ck, sh*t, yeah.

It's not official, far from it. Although let's face it, it will get an 18+. Until it's on pegi, esrb, bbfc's website's then it doesn't really mean anything. Even when the game has got a rating it doesn't really mean that much, the game can be rated once all of the fmv sequences and the general game play is complete, they just have to send footage of the worst examples of violence in the game, and then they can still continue to polish the game afterwards, that's what I've read anyway. So it isn't really a sign that the game is finished. The most accurate information we have is that GTA:IV will be released sometime between the beginning of february and the end of April.

Personally I'm hoping that the release date will be announced at the end of Take-Two's fiscal quarter, which is the end of this month. I think this is the most likely time for it to be announced, because Take-two are probably reviewing the latest build sometime around now and seeing if it's on course and then they will hopefully agree on a release date.

defibrillator

Alot of websites assume the rating before it comes out due to its predecessors. I'm pretty sure Vice City and San Andreas were both displayed in Mature, PEGI 18 etc., rating boxes on many websites before it was official.

It's not rated by PEGI though. It's rated by BBFC...

It'll be rated by PEGI and BBFC like other games I assume.

This is probably going off the thread but...

WTF, pegi dosen't have a rating for GTA:SA

But GTA IV will definetly get an 18 or it might get the same treatment as Manhunt 2!

I suppose it's because I'm American... but what's the difference between PEGI 18 and the ESRB's M?

Would it fall more along the lines of AO?

This may be a slight bit off topic but I don't see anything that would warrant it over M (for America) it is no worse then SA.

As long as I can buy it I dont care. (PS im 17) so as long as its not an "AO" im good.

BBFC still has a stick up it's ass about Manhunt 2, I know it's a different format and considerably more gory than GTAIV, but some evangelical uninformed retard with an agenda took it upon themselves to make life very difficult for rockstar and take two over MH2 on both sides of the atlantic, so you can't just expect a M17, BBFC18 or PEGI 18+ everytime because video games as you all know are still unfairly scrutinized and heavy-handedly censored due to outdated preconceptions exacerbated by the ignorance in the mainstream media (and political systems) and subsequent inaccurate and skewed reporting as you all know. Nintendo's family orientated-kid-friendly global marketing strategy and now global dominance is killing the chances of the medium being accepted by critics as a valid artistic medium for adults too in the same vein as classic literature and film because they only serve to reinforce these preconceptions which have a negative effect on adult entertainment publishers on other formats. Adult themes can only be rated in accordance to the appropriateness for young adolescents and not adults themselves unless the game is effectively banned. The system is broken. Ratings boards, retailers and the hardware companies need to drastically reform their policies before games will ever be rated effectively and software publishers can fully express their visions without being constantly told to keep toning it down. Can you imagine if the ESRB had rated reservoir dogs, the godfather pt. I & II or Scarface. They wouldn't have been the same movies and wouldn't have had the same cultural impact because they would not have been allowed to the push the boundaries the way they did for cinema.

Edit: This is what ratings boards are doing to gaming. Effectively diluting the artistic intrinsic value of the work of adult entertainment publishers in the industry. It's a shame that there are such great titles out there that will never be fully realized. Imagine a Rockstar North Manhunt 3 in 1080p HD uncensored... think again.

If you were Rockstar you would never want to take risks like this. What if Scorsese, etc had never been allowed to take risks!
