I know there's nothing really to talk about right now so i thought i'd start a little bit of light conversation...

 

I noticed there's already a wish list, but i couldn't seem to find a keep list anywhere. By that i mean, what features of the previous games would you like to keep.

 

I mean we can all say what new things we want but, personally, i think we already have some really great features in the current GTA games that need to stay where they are.

 

R* keep saying, "Things will be different", and i'm all for change and improvements but there are alot of things i'd hate to see go, even little things like... how if you lean slightly forward when you're on a bike you can make it go faster or if you get into a car too quickly the door will still be open and you have to let go of everything for a second to close it. Stuff like that just make this game so deep/detailed, you know?

 

The main one, I think, has to be...

 

The fact you have to unlock the next area of the map by progressing through the story. This is probably the feature i'm most hoping will stay in GTA IV, i just love the feeling of knowing there's more out there... knowing there's more to see, but you don't know what it is or what it's like. And you get a great sense of achievement when you finally unlock the next chunk and there's just so much more that you haven't seen you just want to explore the lot. And then you realise that over the water there's another island and you know there's going to be something cool there... like a plane or a tank. I remember how i felt when i first played Saint's Row and the entire map was open from the get go, i remember thinking to myself, "So... that's it? There's nothing else to find?". Unlocking stuff is part of the fun.

 

Oh and also, if they take out being able to flip a top heavy vehicle ( like a moonbeam! awesome cars...) by swerving left and right, or busting out a 10 second two-wheely, i will be very dissapointed.

 

Oh and one last thing i thought of just now, which i can't believe i almost forgot...! The handeling of the Stallion's/Idaho's. The way you can drift them for miles and how they spin-out uncontrollably in the rain. I f*cking love driving those, in my opinion they're the best/most fun cars to drive in the game. Look cool too...

 

Anyway, that's what i want to keep, and I'd be absolutley gutted if they took any of these out.

 

What kinda thing's do you guys wanna see return in IV?

 

Note: I'm not too familiar with the rules you guys have here, i've seen a lot of topics like this locked, so if this offends you or if it's inappropriate somehow then feel free to do what it is you do...

It was a good read, enjoyed it colgate.gif . I know what you mean about the map being open from the start? I was kind of hoping that this time i will be, but from reading this i have changed my mind. I too what the sense of achievement and excitement that there are still things to be found etc. Played San Andreas yesterday and wow the car handling is outrageously bad lol after playing Burnout, but that's the great thing. Anyway at least the vehicles in GtaIV are going to handle more or less like real cars. All i want now is a release date.

-on a side note i keep reading people want heavier cars so they wont wobble as much but i think they really want lighter cars. (ie Lincoln town car wobbles , honda civic does not)

-the guy who wants Burnout handling i dont agree with. i like the swaying of the car . much real.

but i would like that the handling of the car be upgradeable like buying strut bars if you wanted to.

I didnt say i wanted burnout handling. I just said after driving the vehicles in burnout, they felt like they were floating in air.

well ive always like the car handling in all the games each car is different and has always felt unique.

 

The one thing i wish they have kept is car modification, allthough some people wont agree with me i really enjoyed that feature. I love my modded blista compact. I just dont now how im going to get around without it.

Alot of people don't want the Army/National Guard to come after you at Six Stars.

 

I on the other hand, can't wait to be chased by Rhinos down Star Junction. biggrin.gif

 

 

About the open map, imo it SHOULD be open from the start, but just streets. Almost all buildings need to be unlocked and your first missions should all be in that small area of Broker we've seen so far.

 

The game is gonna be so huge, I wouldn't venture very far at first anyway, since i'd probably get lost wow.gif

Haha, that reminds me, on the playstation thing, whenever I looked what you were doing it was Burnout Paradise demo, and I just knew you'd mention it on these forums.

maybe i am totally wrong but i have gut feeling that a big portion of the game wil be open from the start. The improvement i can think of in terms of unlocking areas is instead of big spikes blocking the bridges like in San Andreas this time there could be a "bridge accident" that stops you from crossing. eventually you hear on the radio or TV (because R* said media will play a larger role) that the accident was cleaned up or whatever the excuse is.

 

what do you think?

Theres a lot of things I loved about the old GTA's, hence while I'm here and waiting for the damn release of GTAIV. Well I don't really want R* to get rid of many things cos thats wot makes GTA GTA, but I hope they keep the old driving style which was very unique to GTA, the ped cheats have to stay specially the ones from GTAIII and San an with the explosives tounge.gif (I mentioned this in another thread). Being able to change your threads is important even if it ain't as advanced as San an's cloths engine but jeans defiantly have to stay, I havn't seen Niko in jeans much? and thats unusual cos R* seem to like jeans as nearly all the GTA characters start off in them or get them (GTAIII being the exception, just everyone else had them!) and thats a good thing cos jeans look smart and casual at the same time!

I'm not sure, they did say things will be differenmt but how far are they gonna take it. For all we know they may ruin the francise and put take2 out of business! I guess we will find out in the next couple of months (I'm hoping for Feb).

i think they will keep the core elements of past GTA games but i have a feeling that the rest will be new. the only reason i say this is because everyone keeps emphasizing how "things will be different". I dont think GTA will ever die in terms of popularity. how many other times have you been put in a satirical world with guns, cars, planes (helicopters now), and been told to go and cause as much mayhem as possible?

I'd like them to keep that whole stealing cars, running around in the city bit. That 'grand theft auto' thing. They can trash the jet packs, the girlfriends, the dildos, etc, basically most of the things introduced in the last two games..

Controversial there jallar.

 

Next you will try and add a prostitution angle into the mix.

OmG!

they better keep the triggers for gas instead of face button (X PS3) (A 360) it'd be reallt horrible if you had to tap constantly to keep a slow speed:( suicidal.gif like when they ported SA to xbox, that had a way better feel to driving.

 

in fact, can someone please reassure me in some way (even if its not official) and give a reason as to why they won't do this.

Its like the whole world revolves around you, and that the entire city

is waiting for you to kill a certain person to have the next part available.

 

And since R* has said that it is designed to feel like you are not the centre of things

and that you are but one ant in the ant hill, I don't think that we will be unlocking

area's, rather that the whole city will be open from the start.

Well i suppose technically they're just 'scripted coincidences' meaning, yes they do happen because of you and yes they are dependant on your actions, but when you think about it, in the 'game world' they just happen at random.

 

I understand what your saying though, but i wouldn't want it any other way.
