Passing the Paramedic Mission

Recommended Posts

GTAKid667

I'm struggling with the paramedic missions right now, on Portland. I am in the beginning of the game (no gangs hate me yet). But this mission is so hard and so frustrating. I've reached level 9 twice, and both times the ambulance flipped and exploded. After reading this thread I strongly consider to try doing it on Staunton Island instead.

Follow Cristian's Method:

Here's how I do it (basically impossible to fail):

On Staunton Island the Dojo Glitch can happen (a patient spawns inside and you cannot get to them) - That could be a horrible thing to happen to you if it happened on Lvl 12 making you fail :turn:

The Dojo glitch would be n/a if using an ambulance that does not "clip" with it's surroundings (the car crusher no-clip glitch in the vid)...but I wouldn't suggest exploiting that glitch in Staunton anyway. Too many roads over water tiles, which would be certain death if you aren't keeping the glitch's effects in check. IIRC this can happen in the cartel's "garage" area, too (where you rescued that old guy). Robinism: Flipping the ambulance is always a result of not slowing down when cornering (especially on unlevel surfaces). Remember to use yer handbrake!

I don't think using the Crusher Glitch to make the Ambulance a Ghost to complete Paramedics is even easy. Too much time is wasted when you go into Blue Hell and re-spawn on land.

It's actually easier just doing this right when the game loads up on a brand new save file in Portland. I like Portland the most and know the locations very well. I remember in my first playthrough to 100%, the Paramedics were so bad. I was younger, more impulsive, didn't think as an adult, etc...And I remember it took so many attempts and like 5-6 hours to finally pass it.

Now I try to stay calm, strategically decide who to get first, second, third, last, etc...I just finished my second playthrough of GTA III to 100% with 7 proof vehicles about 3-4 weeks ago, so it's fresh in my mind. I passed Paramedics on my 4th attempt. 2 of those attempts resulted in only getting to Level 4, so I didn't waste much time. My third attempt, however, I got to Level 10 or 11 and then failed. But on my 4th attempt I did it very easily.

Problem with Paramedics in GTA III is the time limit and also Gangs (if you do the story before Paramedics). So it's best to just do it first thing and get this annoying nonsense out of the way. Other than some of the Rampages in GTA III, it's the hardest thing in the game for 100%. No other GTA game is like this. I just finished Level 15 yesterday on VCS for Paramedics and did it first try, so easy. Same for VC, SA, and LCS. It's all easy except GTA III. Sometimes they give you like 15 seconds and the patient is far away in GTA III. I don't understand the time limit they give. It doesn't make sense, imo.

You save time by driving through buildings at fast speed. You should respawn nearer to where you need to go if you drive in the right direction before you fall through the ground.

This method is also useful if gangs hate you. The Leones can't blow up your vehicle anymore for example, though you should be careful not to be pulled out of it since that is still possible.

Edit: Barring the possibility of running out of time (which is diminished if you drive through buildings) and being pulled out, this mission is basically impossible to fail in Portland. It sucks having to restart the mission if you accidentally run over a patient (during rainy weather especially).

That seems hit or miss I guess. Cuz I used the Crusher to DP some of my proof vehicles and before putting them into the garage I would experiment with the Ghost and Blue Hell. It seemed the moment I went through a building, I would go into Blue Hell. It didn't hardly give me a chance to even drive through the building far enough onto another road up ahead. Also, when your car becomes a Ghost is grows in size, which will slow you down and make it more difficult to reach your top speed. I am just not a fan of using this method to complete Paramedics. I find it much easier to just do it legit...

Well the Mafia and such will only do this if you wait to do Paramedics until after the mission where they hate you. I never proceed into the story when it comes to GTA III until I start and have a starter save with all side stuff done, except 1 hidden package since I suck ass with flying the piece of sh*t Dodo, that I can't get the 100th hidden package on the lift bridge about Shoreside Vale bridge. So I just wait until SSV is unlocked to get that.

See, that is what I mean about staying calm. The time limit sure is tricky and sometimes you JUST make it, but all in all I think if you stay calm and don't act like you're in a hurry running into cars, etc, that isn't actually hard for me to run a patient over. This doesn't happen when I do Paramedics. What happens is my time simply runs out. It's really the one way I seem to fail GTA III Paramedics. The other PS2 era GTA game Paramedics aren't hard at all due to the massive time limit you get. Whereas in GTA III when you drop off a patient SOMETIMES it doesn't even give you added time, and also other times when you drop off/pick up a patient, it gives you like 19 seconds or something low and rediculous. Whereas the other GTA games at times gave you an entire 60 seconds, or at least 39-45 seconds, etc. Much easier in any GTA game compared to GTA III. But staying calm and telling yourself you CAN do it, seems to work best for me. I'll take doing it legit over using the Ghost Ambulance anyday.

I don't know. I've gotten used to that method and I only recall running out of time once because cars kept driving through me and the wheels are still sort of solid and can cause you to flip over if they collide with the wheels of other vehicles.

Of course, like Nukey said, you should only do this on Portland. The other islands are trickier.

Edit: Yes, the ghost vehicle grows in size due to the camera moving about apparently but that is fixed every time you fall through the ground (and you'll do that frequently if you want to save time by driving through buildings).

Yup, I noticed that, too. Not while doing Paramedics, but in general when the vehicle is a Ghost, the car kinda gets on two wheels at times when driving through other vehicles, I guess from what you said, as they act solid still. Either way, for me Paramedics isn't a real problem to pass, only when Gangs are active. So I simply just do it the legit way first thing in GTA III. I don't do anything else until it's done with and out of the way.

Even in LCS to use the Crusher to DP a vehicle and then drive it over the Callahan Bridge is a pain in the ass. Due to Rockstar putting that ramp on the Callahan Bridge in LCS, it makes it tricky taking a car to a garage in SI and SSV cuz when you go over that ramp, a lot of times the vehicle tends to go through the ground and into the water below resulting in death. However, it seems if you go slow it doesn't happen as often.

Yes, I know how to fix the growing vehicle. I usually purposely drive through a building to fall into Blue Hell right before taking it into a garage or else the car will be to big and the garage doors won't close on it.

FUUUCK!!! I made it to level 12, and I only had ONE MORE PATIENT left to pick up... but the time ran out. f*ck this. I will never do this again.

Yeah, see...That is the problem. It's the time running out. It's not running over patients, it's not damaging the Ambulance too much, it's the stupid time limit that Rockstar decided to give you such a low amount of time even when you pick up patients it bearly goes up.

I wouldn't give up, though. It's bound to happen one day, and when you pass it you'll feel great as you basically succeeded in something that is in the top 5 hardest things in GTA History.

GTA III Paramedics

GTA III Rampages (Only a handful of them)

GTA SA Mission for Zero Called "Supply Lines..."

Everything I listed is probably the hardest things you EVER find in a GTA game. Nothing else compares to these things above.

I guess I didn't take into account my driving skill (I completed the "Paramedic" mission so many times during the Chain Game) but the only way I see to run out of time is to get flipped over by other cars or to refuse to drive through buildings. For example, you can choose to drive fast along one road that goes in the direction of one of the patients and then you take a sharp turn through buildings in the direction of the marker on the map. You will very likely fall through the ground but while you're stuck in limbo the ambulance is still moving in the direction of the marker.

This is my first time posting on this forum as I have just joined a few minutes ago. I want to thank everyone who posted their advice on this topic. I was able to complete the paramedic missions today after a few hours and what felt like millions of tries. I managed to do it legitimately but by the end my ambulance was probably a couple of good bumps away from catching fire. I followed the advice on using the handbrake for turns and for stopping, dividing up the passengers for pickup based on their locations, and remaining calm. I tried using the sirens with mixed results because sometimes the other drivers will move off of the road and other times they swerve or stop directly in front of you. I definitely had a few setbacks such as flipping the ambulance on level 10 and accidentally pressing the button to cancel the mission (once again on level 10). I also ran out of time on more than one occasion > :( I found the missions to be fun and challenging, but they are still a bitch to complete lol I think the main thing to do is to keep trying and to remain calm. Once again I want to thank everybody who contributed to this topic, you guys are awesome!

I tried Staunton multiple times, the time limits are great! Although the columbians messed up my ambulance and pulled me out. I finally beat it on Portland at the beginning of the game. Just keep using your hand brake and you'll pass it. Also make sure to come to a complete stop. I lost on level 11 once because a patient ran into my ambulance going 2 mph and died.

Sorry for the bump but here is a save file I did months ago for people who have trouble passing Paramedic mission:

http://gtasnp.com/42140

@GTAGuy1995

I was wondering if you could re-upload this. It looks like the file expired on gtasnp, and I'd reallllly love to skip this whole mission if I could. Just about to start a new plauthrough and I'm already dreading that damned ambulance. Thank you for your hard work!

I have an iOS Starter Save complete to 51%. Only thing missing is using the Dodo to get the final hidden package on the SSV lift bridge and to fly the Dodo to Portland Import/Export Garage. Everything else that can be done right after Luigi's Girls before ANY other Story Mission is complete! :D:D

Really easy on PS2 and iOS. I did both platforms...

Well I guess as far as the ambulance ghost you could park it in a garage first to make it damage proof without noclip if you don't like the ghost affect. Then the ambulance won't take damage but at the same time you affectively turned the clipping back on.

But if you do that then your ambulance won't be bulletproof and you can flip it.

That would help but as a ghost, the ambulance cannot be flipped or destroyed in any way (except for driving it into water or fire flames) and you cannot run patients over with it. It's a useful glitch if used responsibly (just make sure to use the "look behind" buttons only; not Caps Lock).

I have got 98% on Vice City, leaving only paramedics to last. I got to level 12 3 times, each time the game froze... Doing it a 4th time the game froze again, I put it down to my disc.

I've mastered the paramedic missions now. smile.gif

Either your disc is scratched or a mod is skrewing it up.

My opinion is if you play Paramedic at Portland in the beginning of the game you won't need any glitching. In fact using ghost ambulance can sometimes make it more difficult. The difficult part is the first few levels. As you progress you have more and more patients and they spawn much closer to each oher which makes it easier and faster to collect them and you will get bonus for each patient. So time won't be a problem. As for the damage - as you progress through the levels, the health of the ambulance increases, so the other problem (damage) is also no longer a problem. Just remember to use hand break on sharp turns to make sure all wheels stay on the ground and you'll be fine.

It's not that difficult to do it in Portland at the beginning. It's just that the mission is too long and repetitive.

That's how I feel about it, too. ^^^^

It's easy enough just doing it normally and in the beginning than bothering making it a Ghost/DP Ambulance. The Ambulance gets extra health added to it by picking up and dropping off Patients and as you progress in levels, too, so that isn't an issue whatsoever. I also find that the first few Levels are the hardest (in III only, though) and after that, it becomes easier since you get a lot more time. However, III's Paramedics Level 12 is notorious for limited time, though. Like in VC, SA, LCS, and VCS, you get SO much time Level 1 through 12 (15 in VCS), it's almost a given that you will pass it first try in those games. For III, and like I said in parenthesis above, it's literally the only difficult Paramedics Mission in the Series. Even after 7 or 8 times through this game to 100% on PS2 and iOS, I still have trouble at times and need a 2nd or 3rd time through to pass it.

I can't believe that people would go to all the trouble of using that silly ghost glitch to somehow make Paramedic easier. It's supposed to be a difficult mission, defeated by practice and skill; it's always seemed to be poorly designed in that you can only really do it before the first ten missions or so, after that you could spend more time attempting it than it would take to just restart your whole game.

I've never managed to do it on Staunton Island at all. The Cartel's automatic weapons just destroy the ambulance after a few levels...

Wait just a minute is health added to it or does it get tougher that may give me an idea how to find the pointer for the health of the players car if health is added.

If someone is wondering, the Paramedic mission save I uploaded back in July 2015 has expired and I will not be starting GTA 3 anytime soon to redo the save.

As for the mission itself, well thing is that it must be done early in game before any gangs hate you because I find it pretty much impossible later in game. I remember back in mid 2013 on my first playthrough of the game, when I attempted it few times in Portland but kept running out of time at level 5, so I tried later in game in Staunton Island and I failed at levels 6, 7 and 8 because my ambulance exploded thanks to those damned Colombians. So I couldn't complete it on this island either and had to start a new game and try in Portland again but even then, I keep failing it because of running out of time, so I gave up. It wasn't until a few months later when I tried again and I was able to pass on Portland on third try.

On my last playthrough in July 2015, I managed to actually pass it on FIRST try in Portland, thanks to the generous time of 26 seconds per patient that I got in last couple of levels, except level 9 where I only got like 19 or 20 seconds per patient and I was about to run out of time at one point but managed to drop patients right at time, then I got again 26 seconds per patient, which guaranteed success for me. So for me it depends a lot on the amount of time you get.

I also don't understand how can people complete the mission using the ghost method because while the ambulance will not flip, it can't be destroyed and it will not run over patients, while driving through walls, you will lose time when waiting for the ambulance to respawn on land. Sure, you can drive through buildings to reach the patients faster but you will lose a few seconds while falling through the Blue Hell. So I just prefer to do it the normal way in Portland and it's still luck based because of how patients spawn.
