At Christmas I got one of these. http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/lenses/telezoom/70-300mm.htm.

Shame it doesn't autofocus on the D40x but it's ok still manual focusing. What do you guys think of it, remember I bought it as a n00b on a budget.

Yes, We know you are rich maddog, however tell me what you think of mine please. heh.

ALL THE INFO YOU NEED RIGHT HERE

I don't own that particular lens, so i Can't tell you if its good or bad, but if you click the link you'll se that its close to a straight A lens.

great start to give you more options with your D-SLR

I used this lens throughout San Francisco and was very pleased with the quality.

This lens is not bad for the price and it comes with a hood.

Nice bang for the buck

EDIT: And im not rich, i have been working as a f*cking slave to afford my gear, and every time i have bought something i've had to start from zero saving up.. I postponed getting a used car to buy that lens..

I just bought a Nikon D40X. Unfortunately my family is real big on not celebrating birthdays early, so I can't pop it open until Wednesday.

I'm going to be using it for event photography. I'd been using a friend's EOS 40D, but I figured it was time to invest in my own.

@maddog, do you plan on doing photography as your profession? I would think so if you'd spend so much on your camera/gear.

Ooh Amazon.com I was on the UK. I haven't really used it yet I was hoping that you could tell me how the specs "look", but I guess the specs don't compare to using the thing. That link is for Canon, I assume same lens, different mount doesn't make any difference. But cheers anyway, I'm happy enough, it isn't reviewed as crap.

But damn no wonder you need to save up from scratch when them things cost thousands.

'nuj you won't be disappointed with it.

It IS his profession.

In other news, my Nikon D300 + 18-200VR just arrived today. So I'm a happy camper.

I like the candid-ness of the shots, they're quite grainy though. Guessing they're scans?

Oh man, you're gonna be annoyed at a downgrade like that. But nice catch nonetheless. Happy Birthday.

Here, first one is taken with the 17-40mm lens at 17mm. Note that the red square markes roughly what the 500mm covers.

Aww what the hell, the thumb looks horrible, but the picture was too big to be posted without it.

This one is a bit more reasonable:

@ Piconlini : Yeah, took them with the old college cameras, using iso 200 film, but instead of developing the filme to paper, I had the lab develop them direct to cd, easier to show to the teacher during classes.

@ Zak. : Nope, that's not Brasilia, that's São Paulo, or rather, my college and the surroundings colgate.gif

A couple shots from the second assignment (messing with depth of field):

Demais. To querendo ir pra esses cantos ano que vem. Eu já podia estar aí, mas digamos que não dei sorte dozingoff.gif

BTW, I AM GOING TO BRASILIA IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. EXPECT LOADS OF PHOTOS.

I'll take the notebook with me so it's just a matter of point-shoot-transfer-edit-host-post. Hmm, that reminds me that I have to get Photoshop there.

Ok that was it ph34r.gif

Nice, looking forward to them Saget.

But don't you live in Brasil already? :S

I got f*cking lucky today, I went to dover castle with family and took my camera.

26 years ago, my mother bought a Cosina CT-10 SLR Camera and it has been taking fantastic quality photo's ever since.

Today, when I was walking up a medieval spiral staircase, its first ever malfunction: The f*cking strap broke. I wasnt actually holding it in my hand when it broke either so by sheer luck and coincidence the camera fell towards my feet and I caught it about half a foot from the ground.

Remember that this was a medieval building, nothing but concrete all the way down (about 4-5 stories.) I dont think the camera would have fared too well if it had hit the ground. tounge.gif

The strap literally broke clean, it just went and didnt even make a noise, i'll post a pic of the break later.

I would have gotten into so much sh*t if I hadn't caught it. wow.gif

¬¬

Brasilia is the name of the capital. Brasil is the country. WRITE THAT DOWN!

And, eh, some luck with the camera xD

I NEVER trust the straps, nor the camera, alone. They support eachother for maximum safety icon14.gif

Oops, sorry if I had offended you with that...I fail at geography, big time.

I should be getting a load of new photo's back on moday, so that should be good. And i'll develop the one I took of the big wood spill aswell, so we can probably haver them by Wednesday biggrin.gif

I see what you mean also with the camera straps, but its been really good seen as it has lasted 26 years. smile.gif
