First off, what's her budget? With sports photography, you need fast and long range lenses, so be prepared to drop some serious dough.

...besides that I ain't sayin nuthin.

I'd say $1000 or less. When I started to tell her that a decent camera could cost that much or more to start with, she actually cut me off before I gave her a general quote and said, "Around $1000 dollars". I'm sure she doesn't want to spend THAT much if she can get something cheaper she will take it if it is worth the money so I guess consider the maximum budget to be $1000 or less to start with but we are trying to aim for something that is low cost but well worth it's money.

We sit rather close at the games (tickets are usually around 75 to 150 bucks each) so a heavy zoom is wanted but not a huge priority. A normal zoom quality will suffice to start out with as we are usually close around field level or second level louge seating (often around home plate). She is hoping to pick this camera up before June 6th so she can take photos of the game we are going to on that day. We are seated field level behind home plate. Just behind the $500 a ticket dugout club where all the stupid celebrities sit.

Well, Mums Wedding today that I will be shooting. Ive asked my Cousin to help me, as he might have 2 bodies to use. Should be fun.

I was thinking of getting there early aswell and setting my Video Camera up at the bottom where they walk too, but filming the whole thing as it fills up until we leave, then do a little Time Lapse, just stopping back to normal to see the "I do"'s and then speeding up again.

P-town's been struck by a heatwave. Lots of people at the Waterfront Park fountain today so I thought I'd go down and take some photos.

As shot except for resizing due to having processed the batch on my notebook, where I don't like to do editing.

That really does look like a lovely place. The pure blue windows and flawless blue sky are very placid and calming.

I was just getting my camera ready for the Sunset when the Sun actually decided to shine for a very brief period.

Long time since my last visit here!

was out driving last week when i saw all these paragliders in the sky, stopped to get some shots.

The ones with blue background has some visible dust on them, the front glass element on my lens is large and kinda hard to keep spot free all the time.

Would you guys have any recomendations for my friend who wants to get a good camera ? Something entry level, but nothing too cheap either. Something to get nice pics of your holidays and not blurry crap happy.gif

I have a panasonic lumix fz20, but to be honest i bought it 2 years ago and it's getting a bit outdated, and i'm not really informed on what's good nowadays ..

I'd say find a Rebel XT. Great entry level camera, should be going for a little above $350 these days.

XT's still seem to be going for about $450.

@Oogie, thanks biggrin.gif

Does your friend want a DSLR, or is a bridge camera, or even a point and shoot just fine? You can get some pretty decent result from P&S's for about $250. But of course you'll get more control with a bridge camera, and more so with a DSLR.

The cheapest DSLR would be the Rebel XT, which is what I use (you can see more pictures of mine in my thread I just bumped, and of course the above picture). I think it's great for the entry level photographer hobbyist. No need for much more if it's just a hobby, imo, unless you've got money out the ying yang.

Funny, the Rebel XT is actually cheaper than the Nikon D40 now, by about $20 at most places. Funny since, at least imo, the XT is better (built in AF motor, 2 more MP's...) and cost more than the D40 up until recently I guess.

I showed her the rebel XT and she loved it, but is it sold in the UK ?

In the Digital SLR section on canon's UK site, i cant find it:

The other ones displayed all seem to be better, but i guess they all cost quite a bit more too.

Wow, the XT is down to just $410 there, crazy!

@Oogie, in Europe it's called the Canon 350D wink.gif

edit: Oh, that was the body only, you linked to Zak.

The one with the standard lens (which I think is totally decent) is $450, still a good deal, imo.

Brought some friends with me to photograph their cars today, not my speciality but i think they came out good!!

Sorry about the watermarking, but with 206,635 registered members, you never know who might steal stuff.. I would recommend you ALL to somewhat mark your work. People steal stuff all the time.

Awesome atmosphere in that bridge photo uni, although I think the angle and composition could be a little different. Still, awesome picture!

@maddog, nice car photos there!

I agree with the water mark, if you don't want anyone using your photo's with out your say or trying to say it's them, watermarks are the way to go. I try not to do it in case people want to use the photo as a background. But pictures from the auto show I did do watermarks for sure.
