The Republic of Croatia officially abolished compulsory military service on January 1, 2008, ridding itself of another relic from the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and following in the tracks of its neighbour Bosnia and Herzegovina, which did the same two years prior on January 1, 2006.

Ye it's true, military service is canceled in my Country, and I am happy about that, because I heard from other friends

that military service is just a 6 months waste of life yawn.gif

We still have that. When boys reach 18, they have to go to the military to see if they are good enough for that or not. Most people find a way not to join because they don't want to, and the military people don't mind because there are lots of other people who want to join anyway.

It still hasn't hapenned here yet. I'm lucky though as I'm a brit. wink.gif The serving period is continuously being reduced, it is a matter of time till the army becomes 100% professional. The way technology is advancing, you can't expect somebody to fight in the army and use the advanced weaponry without lots of training and practice.

I'm glad to hear that.

My dad served 6 months mandatory there, and moved to Canada just before the war broke out. Lucky for him, they would have likely put him on the front lines.

Good for them, I guess. I don't like how people see you as less of a man if you don't do your compulsory military service. I've already got a three year postponement from the army, and at this rate I'm probably not gonna even make it there...
