kregg
GTA Vice City For the PC Platform Problem: Specs: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz Hyperthreading Processor 3GB Ram 300GB Hard disk + 40GB hard disk Intel Chipset Graphics Windows XP SP2 Direct X 9.0c SoundBlaster Live! 24bit Soundcard History: This isn't my first install on this computer. I had a genuine disk that I borrowed off my bother in law. That was roughly 1/2 years ago. Now I have brought my own copy (this 27th) and today I tried installing it since. I had installed it first time round, and it kept with the spinning disc logo. So I tried to reboot and uninstall... had problems there since it locked my DVD Drive. Uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now I get this. Screenshot: This came up twice. I understand now that I have to go through compatibillity mode. It's just that now it really does not work. kregg
Update: I did a chkdsk, came up with loads of "deleting index entry from index $0 of file X" (can't remember what X was, probably 25). Restarted the computer without letting it finish, and now I'm doing Disk Cleanup. I tried playing it again, and got this error message: To be quiet honest, I think this is a problem that is possibly to do with Windows XP itself, and not GTA-VC... kregg
OK got the error messages sorted: It was a messed up temp folder, also doesn't help when you reset the computer without letting Windows shutdown properly (the computer wasn't shutting down and the drive wasn't ejecting the Vice City disc). Now I have a new question: Say that I've tried every combination of compatibility modes for Vice City, and all it ever does is load, then quits immediately, is this a sign that I need new graphics card? gtamodder
Say that I've tried every combination of compatibility modes for Vice City, and all it ever does is load Well, it could be as Intel Chipset graphics aren't good, because when i had one my games would run bad and get messages like the one's you had, but when i had Nvidia graphic card the game was much better. is this a sign that I need new graphics card? Probably not, just try deleting the .set file in My Documents\ GTA Vice City User Files Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/305223-gta-vcexe-cannot-be-initialised/#findComment-1057364765 Share on other sites
kregg
I didn't have, and still don't, a .SET file in my Grand Theft Auto Vice City folder, and still my GTAVC is playing up... What now... Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/305223-gta-vcexe-cannot-be-initialised/#findComment-1057365146 Share on other sites
Spuds725
you should have one from the previous install (unless you deleted it)-- I doubt that is your problem but you never know... I think the issue he was getting at was that the version you bought may not be exactly the same as the one previously installed, and something in the .set (settings) file is messing you up.... I would go ahead and read through the pinned buglist thread (if you haven't already) see if anything catches your eye that might be similar to your problems-- specifically I might want to go through and shut down all your non essential programs just to see if you can get it running... disconnect from the net and shut down your anti virus and firewall programs... any thing else that might be hogging resources... Also I've heard on a local radio show about PC issues that they recommend restarting the PC twice after removing a program-- I forget the reason why... FYI-- i run VC without any problems without a video card I'm not the best to help with a PC version problem... I wish you luck though-- Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/305223-gta-vcexe-cannot-be-initialised/#findComment-1057365243 Share on other sites
kregg
Thank you very much for the reply. I remember deleting the folder ages ago, but having a archive - just in case. Since that archive has gone, I can only assume to things: 1. This wasn't the computer I was using before 2. This was, but got formatted. I have been reading through that list, but haven't got to all of it. I've looked at TakeTwo's website, and followed their advice with no success. It might be something in the background, I don't know or understand to be honest, but will try all my best and will post the solution (if any) to the problem. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/305223-gta-vcexe-cannot-be-initialised/#findComment-1057365380 Share on other sites
kregg
RESOLVED! I figured out what the problem was: I clicked on "Turn off advanced text services for this program" and immediately it worked! Thanks guys for having such a great forum! If it wasn't from this place, I probably would've sold it by now I feel 5 years old again!
