Hoodiny
(i swear i made a thread liek this 30min's ago, now i came to check and its disapeard) throught vice city and SA i have noticed that the characters do things weird, like robotic, in the new GTA4 trailer when the girl was dancing it was terrible, how is that dancing? same in SA. Also the part when that guy got angry and starts running at you saying something like "get out of here!" he was running like a robot or something. Hoodiny
nah, really some of the movement in SA felt like it was robotic im just saying i hope its not like that in GTA4 and dont be an idiot.

sronsr
well dude i must disagree with this. at least with SA part. the movements are good and who cares how that lady dances? you will see her dancing maybe 1 or 2 times in the game, maybe not at all lol R* wont give too much sh*twork on a character dancing 2 times in the game lol. ceedot
The lady is dancing like a stripper.... And I agree with the SA part. When AI sprinted, they ran completely like robots. Euphoria controls running as well(I think), and through many previews, they said AI were realistic in all they did.

Anyways, i'll put my trust in endorphin to deliver a simulated rather than animated walk. I'm pretty sure companies such as rockstar will employ techniques such as motioncapture such that the animations seem more realistic. The only problems i've ever had with walk/run animations is that you can continue running into a wall. That looks unrealistic. So, it'll be interesting to see how Rockstar solve this, IF they solve it. Afterall, i wouldn't want a repeating 'run into wall and take a step back animation' if i run Niko into a wall... Eddie280
well this may come as a suprise but, its not real The characters move stiffly because they have been programed that way. Im sure Rockstar try their best to provide us with natural looking movement however the fact remains that it is a video game and NOT a video. Ye, that was funny yet annoying. The simpsons bagged it with it's ads for their game. He should just stop walking I think. And if you jumped into a wall, you didn't actually hit into it. You should now.

And if you jumped into a wall, you didn't actually hit into it. You should now. Haha, yeah, smashing into solid objects mid-jump did yield some interesting/funny results. Which remids me, Rockstar did implement a 'hit wall step backwards' code for jumps. So if you stood right infront of a wall and jumped, CJ would hit it and step back. At least that what i think happens. I might have dreamed it . Sticking to jumps, some really canned looking animations were those when CJ fell from a plane chuteless. I'm sure we all remember his sad attempts to mimic a chicken as he fell to his death. And, the landings i suppose. Watching him crush into the ground the same way each time was rather monotonus. BUT, with the implementaton of euporia, i'm sure we won't be seeing that anytime soon. (Rockstar, please don't make me eat my words ) Afer all, the endless hours people like me can spend arranging various death sequences in endorphin must give us SOME insight into animation/simulation sequnces which will take place in the game. Snake Without a Tongue
in the new GTA4 trailer when the girl was dancing it was terrible, how is that dancing? Yeah, I call it the wooden puppet dance. The animation hasn't really improved much at all. They still swing their arms out to their sides and gesticulate wildly. At least now they have proper hands to gesture with. Or rather, with which to gesture. I can live with it, though.

The "robot dance" Elizabeta does is just a sign of bad animation. I'm not worried about it though, because R* still has a few months to brush up on everything before the game is released. Just the overall body language of Niko is superb.
defibrillator
this is a somewhat humorous use of endorphin but the crack and splats on youtube show off what can be done by amateurs, just imagine rockstar with this material, and you will know the movement will be perfect
ishouldntbehere
I kind of agree with you-- its because they do motion capture animation, rather than animating it themselves. I think they should animate it, to be honest. Or atleast do the motion capture a little better. I mean, who says, "get out of my site before I kill you!" while flapping their arms like a dope? He should be clenching his fists, folding his elbows out and puffing up his chest. It also bugs me that no one's wrists ever move. bad motion capture acting? I think it fit with earlier games, but now that the graphics are better, the same motion capture technique looks awkward.
phs1234
Well with basic movement, many magazines who witnessed the demo have said Niko's walking and running have been fluid, interacting with the environment, and generally impressive. The Euphoria thing has me a bit confused though. It seems as if there will be no animations, rather a simulation. Could, as you have been saying, lead to some wacky moments. Jabalous
I think you have to read about euphoria engine , how can you compare the cartoon movement in SA with the real physics movement in GTA IV ? go read the second preview from Kikizo for the second demo for the game , they said the people walk as real persons . Could, as you have been saying, lead to some wacky moments. To the best of my knowledge, Euphoria will be used to run along side the animations. In other words, the 'walk' animation is still applied to a character, but euphoria is used to simulate what happens if say one foot ends up on a surface lower than another. In essence, euphoria is consantly running in the background trying to fit the Niko simulation onto the Niko animation, giving us a smoother, more realistic walk that is affected by what he's carrying, and the terrain he's navigating. At least, thats what i think it does
Ronnyboy
This is all I hear from you complainers like this topic starter, "Bitch, bitch, bitch, *whiney voice* these animations look horrible, I want them perfect! Bitch some more" You know what, it they arent that bad, you dont like them, go play SR2. Stop coming here and bitching about a BETA of an unreleased game! SliceNDice49
I think the charcter's in will be half half. half robot, and half releastic.
FrozenFire
Every time i'm playing Mass Effect, I can't help but notice how the movement is everything Rockstar said GTA IV would have. The character leans when he runs in one direction, his animations change when he's going up stairs, or over rough terrain (To a degree) But at this point, I'd be happy with them re-using San Andreas' animations. I just love GTA for being GTA.
Slamman
I get a knock for my odd grammer, but the grammer police need to lock this guy up! hahaha Nuff said there though. Rotoscope is the process of using a suit with sensors to capture joint motion for computer animation, as someone mentioned motion capture, that I think is in regard to computer controlled camera movements? Or can be in some regard
