Groovy
Watched the trailer last week, looks god f*cking awful. Only saving grace was the fact that John Goodman was there, he makes pretty much everything awesome.

darthYENIK
It looks terrible. I liked the cartoon for what it was. But this movie looks heinous.
Andyzoot
To be honest I can't get excited by this movie. The bright colours just annoy my eyes. But this topic has reminded me of the Dexter's Laboratory spoof. Click me

meta187
ok. ok. ok. So I took my son to go see the movie this morning. I'm walking in kinda rolling my eyes, anticipating yet another whored out license made into an average movie type mess. What a pleasant f*cking surprise! This movie freakin' rocked. Epic eye candy, from beginning to end, with an All Star cast, kitschy humor, amazing action sequences and *gasp* decent acting. This is definitely one to see on the big screen for the full "wow" factor. I always see people writing in reviews, "an adrenaline filled joy ride" and kinda think, "sure, sure" but I actually did get a few goosebumps and rises out of this one. A lot of people were worried about it being a full on seizure from beginning to end with all the flashy lights and colors but it's broken up enough to remain balanced and true to form. I've read a lot of reviews on it today and opinions seem pretty extreme in the love it/ hate it direction, some of them overtly dismissive because of who's directing it and the fact that it's based on a fairly boring old franchise but the Wachowski Brothers got a little redemption from this one in my book. ~ Studio: Q-13 Lounge / Q:13 Warrior Tunes / Interweb Chex Mix, yo.~
GTA3Freak-2001
I've read a few reviews and honestly it is supposed to be better then most people are thinking, I know I groaned when I first heard about it. It is being compared to Tron and Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the fact its quite almost experimental in nature. For those that don't know its been written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers which leads it some credibility for being a movie not everyone will like because its too different. Its supposed to start out slow-paced but then really take off towards the second half and climax past your expectations. I am willing to give it a go personally as something totally unlike your average movie.

*MURDOC*
I kinda sighed when I heard about this and saw a trailer, but I think ill give it a chance and see it at the theatre. I dont read reviews of movies, I dont see a need to base any kind of decision on someone elses opinions. If I ever read a review of a film, its after Ive already saw it. Even then, its rare. meta187
I will say this: Love it, hate it, you'll walk away having seen something visually unique, unlike anything you've seen before. They're using a lot of 1st time techniques in this film and if you're thinking this is some cheap ass visual green-screening sh*t like in Spy Kids 3-D, you'd be absolutely wrong in your assumption. The techniques alone open the door for a lot of other mediums in the genre, think 300 and you'd be closer to the pin on using effects to enhance a films overall theme rather than just to carry the movie entirely. ~ Studio: Q-13 Lounge / Q:13 Warrior Tunes / Interweb Chex Mix, yo.~

Otter
Wait a minute... you don't think 300 was carried by visual effects? I'll hold out on reserving judgement - but meta, if this turns out to be a big piece of sh*t, I'm revoking your man card. You'll be officially demoted to 'dad' status. meta187
Well, Id say this going in, brush aside any of your jaded, derisive looking down your nose notions of the fact that your watching a movie that is somewhat geared towards a younger audience and you'll realize the flicks a lot of fun, not too heavy, just a cool ride. Otter
300 certainly looked...nifty, that's for sure. I dunno. Speed Racer looks like a vanity project with no real love for the source material. Groovy
This came in third this weekend at the box office with $18,561,337, and It cost about $120 mil. Good to see a sh*t looking blockbuster tank.

Otter
The AHA has rated Speed Racer “Unacceptable.” http://www.ahafilm.info/movies/mr.phtml?fid=7930 I've seen how trainers routinely beat chimpanzees on a film set, with my own two eyes. It's disgusting.
kevin2006rhs
Wait...thats bullsh*t Otter. Ok the trainer hit the chimp once and the the Humane Society rep who was on site stepped in right away. Unfortunately, toward the end of filming, during a training session in the presence of the American Humane Representative, the trainer, in an uncontrolled impulse, hit the chimpanzee. The American Humane Representative stopped the session immediately, notified production and demanded the trainer be reprimanded and that the trainers abide by their written assurance that only positive reinforcement training techniques be used with the chimpanzees. This trainer’s action was in violation of American Humane Guidelines and a signed agreement with the production. The animal was not injured, but American Humane finds this to be completely inexcusable and unacceptable behavior in the use of any animal. Although this incident did not occur during the course of filming, primates should be worked using only acceptable training methods incorporating positive reinforcement. No animal should be physically punished in the process of training, management or performance. Warner Bros. takes this incident seriously and does not condone this unacceptable act by the trainer. Ok...so an incident happened, it was handled. Ok, all is good, happy hunkey f*ckin dorey. Now this site deems the action of one man who was handled, the reason the movie is "Unacceptable". Sounds like a bunch of bullsh*t PETA-style overreacting.
JoeyLeone25
Personally I didn't like it, to me it was just a mish-mash of eye-candy that kept me entertained for about twenty-minute, but after that bored and annoyed me (and I'm sure it made me epileptic in the process). Maybe it's due to the fact I'm not a fan of MachGoGoGo, but at times the film didn't make sense and it seems the Wachowski's for once, chose mesmerising visuals over furthering on the plot or story. I did find the script hilarious mind; "That's not a ninja...that's a NONJA!" Anomalous Material.com <--> AMF Multiplayer Topic Join Quidco and get Cashback for buying things online! Otter
It's not bullsh*t, Kev. The film shouldn't have used a real chimp in the first place. Chimps aren't chinchillas, they're actually smarter than half the troglodytes on these forums. I'm not saying the entire studio should be punished, by any means, but the film definitely earned it's unacceptable status. I'm no fan of PETA either - but this has nothing to do with those assholes. Look into their (the AHA film board) history for more information. Edited May 17, 2008 by Otter
darthYENIK
And we wonder why some Chimps go, pardon the pun, Ape-sh*t and tear their trainers to hell. I personally would be scared sh*tless if I met a Chimp in a dark alley. They're as strong as any ultimate fighter, and they don't fight clean. They tend to go for the testicles and use their fangs. Rob.
I saw this last week, and whilst it wasn't a great film, I will agree with meta that the visual effects, especially towards the end of the film in the final races are truly amazing, and should be seen on the big screen for them to be fully appreciated. Sure I won't be buying it on DVD, but i'll remember it more than other films such as "What happens in Vegas" which i saw afterwards.
