I need help, my new PC isn't working, its keeps shutting down when I log in. It all started after I installed Alcohol Soft, Vista then asked me if I should allow it because it didn't have a publisher (or something like that) so when i accepted to install, my PC just shutted down, it said "Microsoft Vista needs to Shut down to prevent more damage to your computer" so It restarted. After logging in, I can only stay in my desktop for 10 seconds, then it shuts down again? Plzzzz I need help! cryani.gifsad.gif

I can start in safe mode, but the same thing happens, it just shuts down when I reach my desktop, and I go online for help.

I have the XP Proffessional Disc, but I don't have the serial number.. The Vista CD didn't come, I may call HP for it though. But I will have to erase everything Will I?

Even If I get a Serial Number.. Will it erase everything from my Hardrive?

btw I'm using my Old PC for internet, which is really slow. confused.gif

Sounds like your new PC needs to go to an AA meeting. Click Here

Otherwise, your copy of what I assume is Alcohol 120% is corrupt, or your new PC has a hardware problem. Or you could have installed a STD filed file which was crawling with various crap that infected your computer. Try downloading (from another PC) and running a Ubuntu live cd to check if it is hardware at fault.

Download here

When its downloaded, use a cd burning software to burn this to a cd, insert this into your plagued PC when you turn it on and follow the on screen instructions. Let the PC run for like half a hour to a hour, and if it continues to run fine, shutdown Ubuntu, and take out the Cd, and start up normally. That should tell you if hardware is at fault. If it is software that is the issue, you need to do a fresh reinstall (you should do it anyway to get rid of any crapware that HP preinstalled on your PC) Or you can go back to XP. As for the keycode, sorry can't help you there, but good old google can.

When its finish downloading, do I extract the files ot just burn the files?

Also could it be that only my logging profile is corrupt?

It's an HP that did NOT come with an OS disc?

Get that ubuntu live cd (though slax kill bill will be better *for this*) and boot live from it,

burn anything you absolutely cannot replace, and then reboot.

Hold F10 when you turn it back on to enter recovering (NOT restore) mode.

Follow the "Destructive" instructions.

Your computer comes with burning software, explore and research it for better results wink.gif

Well I backed up my files, and erased everything, and it restored everything. I lost Programs though... sad.gif But my Music was saved.

You can get new programs if you know where to look.

@derty: Pre-built pcs still come with recovery cds? I though most of them just had a recovery partition.

The file should be an ISO correct? Burn the ISO file (its like a file that when burned, is like a whole CDs worth of content, its hard to explain in easier terminology)

It looks like your replaced everything. As for Cds, most OEM cds are not provided with pre-built pcs anymore. They need to be ordered from the company, and/or most PCs now have a recovery partion instead of the Cd/DVD

Yea, that's what I outlined above. And yes, some pre-built PCs still come

with CD Suites. I also made sure that I left no room for this being a prior-to

HP going without CDs. sly.gif

@Chargr: Might I suggest:

All you need, you'll be set. DO clean all the dust from your PC before

your first spybot scan tounge.gif

Oh yea, instead of using alcohol, see if that native burner works!

And uninstall all the HP bundled bloat warezzzz! and delete their icon colony on the desktop tounge.gif

I had Norton Internet Security.

And Yes My PC had a Recovery Option (Thank God), it took a while to pop up though, I backed up my files, but I only backed up my music, I missed the option to back up other files, that I needed.

So now I have a fresh PC again, with my Music. I'm updating Vista again, and downloading programs. Getting my Mods again is gonna suck. sad.gif

Also someone said I had the "Sasser Worm" that kept shutting my PC down.

Yea, norton is ass. They buy info from the companies I pic'd above.

You'll be much better off with those 5 applications, and they will never

bug you for money.

Sucks on the backup side of things, wish I would've stressed getting slax

a little more confused.gif live and learn i guess.

Next time theres a simple solution for anyone for this is:

Shutdown the pc. Turn it on, and when it's turning on, press F8 constatnly and it will take you to a black screen. There select something like "Best last configuration known" i don't know how it will be in/on english version. This solution does NOT format your hard drive or delete any file, it just uninstalls Alcohol drivers that are incompatible with Vista. And you're ready!

I had 2 different systems with this problem (friend's) and my solution fixed it.

A restore Point right?

Yeah I was pissed about that, Windows Vista didn't have any yet, but my old PC which was XP did, and thats how I recovered much easier. I guess in Vista you have to set up a restore point yourself, but I don't know how to do that.

As for Norton, I get that free from AT&T, so thats why I use it.
