Xbox: Which One?

Lacking in what way? The only downside to the Arcade is you don't get an in-built hard drive, which is only really for downloading game content, videos, demos, etc. I've played 15+ games (online) and still have space left over for other stuff. Apart from that and the fact that it doesn't include component cables for those with an HDTV, they don't differ near as much as some people like to make out.

Plus the 5 (arcade) games it comes with are pretty good. I've played a good few of my games on Live, why would you need a hard drive for it? Besides, as I said you can always buy a seperate hard drive and stick it straight in.

The Elite is just for those with more money to use up.

End of.

Well, if anyone is slightly concerned about the colour of your xbox, you can always buy a new cover for it... there's heaps to choose from, with heaps of different designs.

But then again, who cares?  turn.gif

I wouldn't mind one of those covers, but I'd rather be able to get my console fixed when it busts - and the 360 tends to do that a lot. "When" because my disc drive already broke, after just two months of mild useage. I even treated it extraordinarily well. Seeing as the first break down was seemingly unprovoked, there's no guarantee it, or something else, won't happen again.

If I didn't buy my Premium back then, I'd probably bought an Elite now.

Is there no way to get your money, back if your 360 f*cks up?

I'm having second thoughts about the Premium, and now I think I might get the Arcade.

Can anyone tell me about Xbox Live?

Don't get the Arcade! I'm telling you, you'll enjoy GTA4 more if you have a HDD... I don't know, but I feel that Rockstar will let you install some of the data on the HDD to improve the performance of the game + you need the HDD for Xbox LIVE stuff.. How are you gonna download demoes/videos/media with the Arcade? Believe me, if you got the Arcade, you'll regret it later.

If something goes faulty and you still have the recipt, you can get your money back or a new whatever.

Here's a little story about keeping recipts. My little cousin bbought a big PS3 bundle, costing about £400 a while back. He binned the recipt and the dreaded happened. It bust. So now he's £400 down and stuck with a not-working PS3.

I don't wanna download sh*t, just play 360 games.

If your 360 malfunctions in any way after purchasing it (up to three years - warranty), you have to send it in to Microsoft for them to either fix it or give you a new one. If it's not your fault, then they have to replace it.

That said, they don't give you cash refunds.. Which is understandable.

@Boombastic: Check Gamestation. They did some good deals about a month or two back, where you get the Arcade and any three games of your choice for £250.00.

@err0rz0n: GTA IV won't require a hard drive, why the hell would you think such a thing? They'll probably compress a lot of the stuff for it not to exceed 9gB. Infact, Mass Effect is a HUGE game, but only took up about 6gB or something. Simply because it was compressed right.

Again, all you have to do is buy a seperate hard drive. Not everyone wants to download demos, you know.

That's what most people say at the beginning, but later on they discover that they are in need of a HDD in some way.

Then... they could go out and buy one. No? dontgetit.gif If he just wants it for games so far (although Live and everything is still available), then let him be.

Is a HDD just for when you download stuff?

The hard drive can be used mainly for-

Saved files (Music, Videos etc...)

Downloaded games

Save games

I've only had mine 1 day and those seem to be the main uses for one.

Yes, it does.

For the record, Arcade owners won't be able to play GTA IV's exclusive DLC, since there's no hard drive to download the episodes to.

Let me clear this up.

• Xbox 360 Core - Discontinued

• Xbox 360 Arcade = Xbox 360, wireless controller, 256MB memory card, standard composite cables for use with a standard TV

• Xbox 360 Premium = Xbox 360, wireless controller, 20gB HDD (hard drive), standard composite cables for use with a standard TV, and component cables to use with an HDTV, and a headset (only needed for online play)

• Xbox 360 Elite = Same as premium, but in black, 120gB hard drive instead of 20, play & charge kit

So really, you only need the Premium or Elite if you want to download lots of demos, game content, videos, and what not. The Arcade bundle is all you need to start playing games on or offline (although you will still be able to download themes and things like that onto the mem unit).

@err0rz0n: Obviously. wink.gif I'm only getting a HDD once I really need one; probably when Rockstar release the downloadable content. Until then, I'm fine with what I've got.

You could buy the arcade now, and buy a hard drive later if you need it? I could be wrong though.

Went to the shops today, for a black xbox cover it's $19 (Australian). In comparison, the most expensive xbox game I saw was $104.

Me might get one of those soon.

I reckon it would be cheaper just to get a Premium, than an Arcade and a seperate 20GB HDD. I could be wrong, though.

Also, are you really ready to void the warranty just to change the color of your console?

Thats a pretty nice bargain. smile.gif

I'm going to get my Xbox tomorrow. They have an offer where I live, so if I give my old ps2 + 5 games, I can get an Arcade for about 65£ (150$ I think).

Nice. You probably won't find that deal anywhere else though, that's really cheap for what it should be...

Although, if you're looking into getting a few games with it, I'd go with the deal they have on Gamestation. They have the Arcade with any three games of your choice for £250. You'll probably save some money that way.

And lol @ paying £100 for a 28" widescreen, that's only just believable, as it is the Christmas sales... I paid about £90 for my 21" flat some months back.

So I got £250 on a 360, Guild Wars was a tenner. I was thinking of getting an Elite. Edited by Boombastic

I just bought an Arcade with Mass Effect, for £90.

You mean including the money you got after trading in your PS2?

@Boombastic: I wouldn't. You won't have any money left over for games. I'd buy the Premium or possibly the Arcade depending on how much money you have left for games.

Yea, I just gave my old ps2 and all of my games in. I think I got the xbox for around £50. And then I just bought Mass Effect. Brilliant game btw. colgate.gif

My only slight annoyance with Mass Effect is the framerate issues in places and the unloading texture problem as you first start the game, other than that though, it's a damn fine game. I just wish they spent more time polishing it, but hey.
