GTA Plot for Movie?

Recommended Posts

*I would have posted this in General GTA, but you don't have a forum, I found this to be most suitable*

I think Rockstar Games have said officially that they won't make a movie based on the GTA Games (featuring cities and characters..).

Well, even the GTA games are based on movies:

GTAIII: Godfather..

Vice City: Scarface..

San Andreas: Boyz N The Hood..

Well, why not make a movie with the basic plot to a GTA Game?

Guy arrives in a city, does evil work, kills people, takes city over tounge.gif

It would have to be based in a Real City, with real cars and new characters, and NOT be called Grand Theft Auto. Something like 'Rise to Power' or something.

What do you think about this?

I don't know about this, but there was a movie called Grand Theft Auto released in 1977, but it's not based on the film, but I think it is quite like it though. Also, the games are not based on the film either.

the film was nothing compared to the game. they stole one car throughout the whole film, and i do believe it belonged to the guys father. plus im pretty sure they never killed anyone, or had intercourse with a prostitute (or a girlfriend for that matter), they never took drugs.

so i think your statement is very incorrect. think before you try to make a point.

Right, R* shouldn't make a movie at all.

It. Will. Suck.

Although i do think they should make a 'Cartoon Series' for Cartoon Network [Adult Swim] or something.

But is HAS to be cartoon, and not Real life characters, i wouldn't watch it if it was.

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake

^ That wouldn't work either.

A GTA movie could work, but you dudes have way too large expectations. It wouldn't span the entire life of a criminal, but capture a crazy ass story of his. He comes to Liberty, works for someone important, then works for a rival faction, he gets labeled as a traitor and marked for death. And, wild mishaps, murders, car chases, and lots of violence and action later, we leave the theatre happy.

A good director, writer, and caster could make it happen, but too many idiots in hollywood.

I went and saw Hitman today, and since it's based on a game, i thought to myself, wow, i'd be feeling so f*cking cool right now if Hitman was my favourite game and now it's a movie. I wish that would happen for GTA. Like movies based on each game storyline. My hopes have now been crushed.

Why won't they do it?

Yes but the problem for Hitman fans was that the film didn't live to their expectations or the film wasn't true to the series (f*cking swords?!)

Yeah i haven't played it but i'd like to, i hear it's really good. I guess the same could be said if they made a GTA movie, we might not like it. Part of me would really like to go to the cinema and see a GTA movie though smile.gif

Is this why R* won't make one?

most video game adaptations go down the drain. i mean here some examples DOOM, resident evil, bloodrayne, alone in the dark, silent hill. although a lot of thes are due to uwe boll (dont know how to spell his name) being the director. some games can be made into movies (and can be good if the director is good) others can't, i just can't see a gta movie working.

I was just saying that there was a freaking film made in 1977, what's your problem.

ummm no you said

but it's not based on the film, but I think it is quite like it though

which implies you think it's like the game, which i stated it isn't.

i have no problem with you. what is it with you 07'ers, grow up.

Well being a die hard fan kills it for you. I hate Hitman as a game but I say the movie was the best movie I've seen based on a game. If GTA made a movie, of course I would go see it, but because I am a die hard fan, it would suck because I would notice the little missing parts and info. Also the games are pretty much movies anyway. Best stories from any game in my oppinion. Anyway GTA's arent based on certain movies, the draw inspiration from a bunch of them. San An for example, Boys in the Hood, Menace to Society, and also the atmosphere of 90's california.

Jesus Christ!

That film is 30 odd years old...

Absolutely nothing like the GTAs of today.

lol Well obviously its not based on GTA seeing how its 30 years old. Only one car was stolen and nobody died I think.

Have you even seen Boyz N The Hood? The closest thing San Andreas has to that, is that most of the main characters are black and live in LA ( or a parody LA ), and that's where the similarities end. sh*t, none of the f*cking characters in Boyz N The Hood were even in a gang!

Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City had week, generic plots, that's why they are so easily passed off as based off of The Godfather or Scarface respectively, but San Andreas' storyline is far too developed to be comparable to just about any gang movie outside of the similarities involved with guns.

Anyway, if SA was supposed to be based even loosely around Boyz N The Hood, they did a sh*t job.

It wasnt based on that movie it drew inspiration from it and others like it.

How in the hell did it draw inspiration from Boyz N The Hood? Boyz N The Hood was a story about coming to age for young black men in the ghetto, dealing with issues of racism and black-on-black violence. Honestly, even comparing Boyz N The Hood to San Andreas is like dragging that movie through the dirt.

I don't know, maybe I need to replay San Andreas, but I can't see how the two are comparable.
