f1freak
Hey all. This is my first post, however, I have a few questions. Let me start by laying down my cards. I was always a PS2 fan, and purchased a PS3 immediately upon it's realise here in Australia. I had pre-ordered GTA4 on PS3 a VERY long time ago. However, with a recent Xbox 360 purchase, I've realised that the two systems are very much on par, and am undecided on which system I should purchase GTA4. Now, I have done plenty of Google-ing, and have searched these forums from (what I believe) top to bottom, but I can't seem to find the answers to my questions anywhere. I do not wish to create a PS3 vs Xbox 360 war. I am very aware of the Episodic Content on the Xbox 360. Similarly, I am aware that because of the HDD, the loading times may be quicker on the PS3. However, I really don't care about that, pending on the answers to the following questions. - Does anyone know what will the maximum resolution of the two games will be? 720p, 1080i or 1080p? - Does anyone know of the FPS (Frame Rates per Second) of the two games? - Does anyone know of any other visual differences between the two games? Any help regarding my query would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou for your time. ceedot
1. 1080p I guess, or it would be 720p. 2. Frames? 30-60. It's not known. 3. Pretty much no difference. If you have both consoles, but it for the 360. I have a PS3, but don't have a 360. I'm fine with no content...Unless it's really good.... ceedot
Sorry. What I meant by FPS is Frame Rates per Second. Ye, I first thought First Person Shooter. This info is still all unknown, but I'm guessing highest resolution, and frames there could possibly be, and the game should be the same for both consoles, with little differences such as loading time, and frame rate. Transporter™
Ceedot pretty much answered all of your questions. The resolution is 720p, seeing from the (digital) screenshots. All I can say is if you have the money to buy both consoles, why not buy GTA IV for both of them? And later on with the 360 DLC, you really will experience the "whole" GTA IV package. I just hope who-ever's console runs the game better, doesn't start a huge console war. f1freak
if you have the money to buy both consoles, why not buy GTA IV for both of them? Although that may seem like a good idea at first, I doubt it would occur. One main problem I see is that I don't really want to be doing the same missions twice. Plus, if I were to get both games, I would REALLY feel as if I'm wasting a money. ceedot really has answered my questions, thanks mate. If the games really are similar, then it's really only up to me how I feel more comfortable playing the game (plus a few other little things I will need to consider). I'll need to make a decision soon though. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/304796-xbox-360-ps3-questions/#findComment-1057355195 Share on other sites
Steege
I believe the only thing so far confirmed (of your questions) is that it will be 720p. However, the frame rate has gotten better with each trailer, so we can only hope this holds true with actual gameplay as well. They respect both Sony and Microsoft greatly, and wouldn't hail one over the other. If you want to choose... choose which one you feel has a more comfortable controller for you lol. I'm used to the PS controller. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/304796-xbox-360-ps3-questions/#findComment-1057355257 Share on other sites
nlitement
720p. I know at least that Microsoft does not allow games to go under 15 FPS. 30-60 is pretty standard. Nothing visual has been released from the PS3 version. I guess we'll see it when the game is released. paulbeattie87
I'm not going into fanboy mode or anything here far from it just my personal thoughts. I was a die hard PS fan before November last year when I decided that enough waiting was enough and I fancied some of this HD malarkey and at that point the PS3 was delayed until March 2007 so the Xbox 360 was the obvious choice not wanting to wait any longer and boy am I glad that I got the 360. Yes it has some hardware reliability issues but I have not experienced very many not had the RRoD yet. I have played online with both consoles and again I'm glad I got the 360 the community is just so much different so much closer than on PS3 Xbox live is streets ahead even playing CoD4 on both consoles the PS3 version has issues and not many people have a headset meaning communication is not very high and if a opponent gets passed your front-line nobody knows whereas with the 360 every console had a headset meaning everybody communicates different bits of information in. I am worried about the disc size but I'm confident at the same time it wont be a problem, in all the years I have been gaming since the NES I have never had so much fun with any console not even the PS2 as I have with the Xbox 360. Call me a fanboy, whatever you want but thats my honest view and experience with both consoles and because of this I have ordered GTA:IV for Xbox 360. GTA aside some of the games out for the 360 are just amazing, I cant really say that for the PS3, nor do the festive periods sales say much for the console either. I'm really annoyed Sony done such a rubbish job of the PS3 but at the end of the day they are a profit making company so if anybodys fault its there own. YourNeighborhoodKiller
You should just decide whats best for you. If you want the extra content go for the 360. If you don't care then just choose whatever you want. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/304796-xbox-360-ps3-questions/#findComment-1057355690 Share on other sites

Greatest Thing Alive
Well just know it depends on what suits you more. If your more into a PS3 then get GTA IV for it. Unlike me who only has an Xbox 360 I have no choice but to get GTA IV for it(But I feel ok with an Xbox 360 with my Madden 07 and Saints Row). spectre01
1. Maxmium resolution for both consoles is 1080p, although most next-gen games are 720p. 2. Frame per second is depended on the game, not the system. You can take a look at Team Fortress 2, xbox360 verison has a decent FPS, where ps3 has crappy FPS (what do you expect, EA ported it onto ps3). 3. Visual difference is hard to tell. If a game is released for both system, I bet the developing team try to make the visual looks the same as much as possible (using the same textures and models, just different coding methods). It's really a personal taste. One advantage xbox 360 has is more game to choose. So it's up to you to decide which console to buy. Johnny Burbank
I have both systems and will buy it for both. I am going to play a few missions on each and see which I like better and then stay with it. I will give a solid unbiased review at that time. You do know that it's still Valve who's developing the games? So you can ask Valve's programmers what made the PS3 version's frame rates so low. Perhaps because the PS3's dev kits suck? Ah, yeah. It was EA. But you do still know that it's harder to dev on the PS3? Also, GameSpot's graphical comparison concluded that the X360 has better graphics and higher frame rates, in general. I don't want this become a flame war, so I just want to state that I'm not a fan boy on either console. I don't even have any of these consoles. I know that it's harder to program on ps3. The point I wanted to make is that frame per second is not console depended, it's about the game itself. I use Team Fortress 2 as an example because although it's the same game (I KNOW that it's valve who developed it, but it's EA who ported it onto ps3), bad programming leads to bad FPS. I just want to answer his question: "- Does anyone know of the FPS (Frame Rates per Second) of the two games?" Because GTA4 is not released yet, so it's hard to tell whether FPS will be the same for both system. GTA3Freak-2001
I would say in regards to the fps, both games will feature 30fps on average which is around the mark that previous GTA's have been as well as other similar games due to the nature of these games. There might be a slight difference between consoles but honestly its impossible to say until we have both versions to compare. phs1234
So do you guys think 60fps is out of the question? They managed it on COD4, but that was a strictly linear, scripted game as opposed to an open-world. dlx
-Resolution: 720p... you can upscale it to 1080p, but the game's native reso is 720p, like with most games on 360 and ps3. -Frames p sec: 30 fps max. 60fps is for online shooters and racing games. 30 is the standard, and hard enough to attain. I don't think any of the consoles could handle GTA at this level of detail in 60 fps. -Visual Differences: very...very...very minor. From all the comparisons i've seen I take that the ps3 and 360 are capable of pretty much the same graphics. With multiplatform games 360 usually has slighty sharper textures and more vibrant colours. But to me the ps3's colours and lighting looks a bit better. It's all down to taste and nitpicking Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/304796-xbox-360-ps3-questions/#findComment-1057356951 Share on other sites

dlx
@ceedot: yeah.. I was generalising from what I've seen. I haven't played skate. It's indeed down to which game you have. How it was made. Some developers can do development on both systems (like rockstar), others build on the most commercially viable system (360) and port to PS3. In the end, with GTA, it's gonna be tiny differences, like with assasin's creed. One has slightly better lighting, the other better textures, but all hardly noticable. dlx
yeah i want the same on my 360... mass effect is a mess i can tell ya... this game even has loading screens if you walk from one side of the room to the other. The general quality of these so called next-gen games is horrible, whatever the platform. Tense
Firstly, with the objective of keeping this thread civil, I am a PlayStation 3 owner and fan although I have never owned an XBox of any sort. However: Anyone looking to choose one console over the other, don't choose the PS purely because many XBox users have complained about getting the RRoD. I say this because two days before christmas, whilst playing COD4, I had the unfortunate pleasure of witnessing my 40GB PS3 overheat, and giving me the 'three beeps of death.' The problem is not unique to XBox's. Just thought i'd share my frustration.
