Has anyone ever gotten to Level 366 on Vigilante?

once you complete learning to fly I believe you can. or it might be a couple airfield missions after that... I'm sure you can do it after you get a call from jethro about street racing in SF. this is the only way without cheating.

we need to get an official record book here at gtaforums, the one on gtplanet is, well it's on a gran turismo site.  that seems wrong.

I'd like to take a shot at beating 1416 or whatever the record is, but I was thinking... what's the biggest hinderance when you're doing a marathon of vigilante missions?  food.  what's stopping someone from putting in the never hungry code before starting their missions and circumventing the toughest part of doing that many vigilante missions in a row?

It is wrong, but for some reason recordbooks just don't do well here... the VC one at GTplanet was actually copied from the one here, it just got a bigger following over there...

Here are the VC PC ones from here...

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...9&hl=recordbook

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...&hl=record&st=0

and the VC for PS2 one (First post is March 15, 2003)

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=88521&hl=record

The first version over at gtplanet was started on May 11, 2003 and even says it was copied from here..

Heh. Stole the idea from the guys over at GTAForums. Basically, the idea is to try and beat others records. Something to do for those people who have completed the game.

Although I run the VC one over there (I've run it since July of 2003), I didn't copy it... in fact I thought the one here was a copy of ours there blush.gif -- the first 2 recordbooks over there didn't do well because the people that ran them just didn't keep them up to date, I ran and kept it up regularly, and heavily participated in the Version 3.0 I created... I didn't find GTAforums until Sep, 2003...

the other GTA recordbooks there were just a copy of the VC one... only the SA one can come close to the popularity of the VC one...

A few were tried here for SA (they were archived I'm sure-- for some reason the VC section was not archived whent the forums were "trimmed")-- even just a limited one for racing times by Smallfryz who was very active at the gtplanet one....... little if any interest-- which makes no sense since this site gets so much more traffic....

anyway... just thought I'd give some info on the question about recordbooks here...

//edit//

And HERE is another thread I found where Adamcs spanked me for advertising our book over there after Azazel closed the recordbook here.... now the spankee becomes the spanker tounge.gif (I'm a VC ledby in case nobody got that)

I'm gonna try for the vigilante mission record... do I have to take a picture with my phone everytime I do a level past 1416 (I'm on ps2) or can I just take a picture of the "highest vigilante level completed" on the stats screen?

Nice. I can't find the helicopters, but I use the tanks. So I'll try use the tanks and get up to a high vigilante mission as possible.

Starting a new record book here might be a bit problematic, at least for the race times. Several of the record holders are still active on this board. GTA_Phreak, atwyatt, and myself could repost our current times here, and that would take some of the fun out of a new record book. Besides, we never fully resolved the issue of PC vs PS2 race times. There's a PC version of the San Andreas Record book at GTPlanet as well. atwyatt has slowly been picking away at most of the PC records with his PS2.

Nope. The final level screenshot will do.

OFF TOPIC:could anyone tell me where to get a hunter without completing flight school on a ps2 version of SA thanks i'd really like to try it with hunter

There are plenty of topics about getting Hunters without flight school.

One way is to do the Heli Hell race in LV Airport. Just leave the Hunter after the countdown and when you return to the race screen you should have the Hunter beside you.

But search for the topic next time...

He hasn't beat Learning to Fly so he can't go to that race

The Hunter can be acquired prior to Pilots School, the Heli Hell air race becomes available when Jethro calls C.J. to tell him about the illegal street racing; Jethro's phone call can take place prior to Pilot School.

Also, Spuds725, those records at GTplanet are well organized, but some of the results are just pathetic. Take for example the NRG-500:

Best Time in NRG-500

1. 1:01 - Orion_SR

2. 1:49 - IntegraGS-R

3. 1:54 - RancidMilk

4. 2:01 - Famine

5. 2:13 - Small_Fryz

In my opinion, Orion is the only person that should have his score listed there, the other four results are pitiful, especially anything over 1:50.

I'd like to post my time on GTPlanet, but as someone has already said, GTPlanet is not GTA.

That's like the Driver series (Driver, DRIV3R, Driver: PL), they're some of my favorite games to play, but I wouldn't want to post my times here on GTAF.

The GTA:SA recordbook on GTPlanet is pretty much PS2 exclusive, so if you want to compare you need to go through the PC version too: http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=74811

Also it doesn't seem to be maintained at the moment (no updates since march).

The PC records actually started on the GameFAQ's board (as a chaingame?) before moving to the better facilities at GTPlanet.

At that time the PC racing records were so superior to the existing PS2 ones that it was suspected that there was an unfair platform difference (recent records by atwyatt suggests that that isn't the case), so they were never merged.

That unfortunately makes the GTA:SA records is a bit of a mess.

And finally GTPlanet isn't a Gran Turismo exclusive board, - it does have a dedicated Grand Theft Auto section: http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=70

Records are all "well and good"..but how can you be certain these days that they are done without the aid of cheats? It is impossible to verify a record anymore. IMO. confused.gif

Yes, actually. The PC Record Book did start with the original Chain Game at GameFAQs. Just before we finished the round a few of us started squaring off on various race scores and we kept a CG record book for a while. I'm a little fuzzy on the details now, but the CG record book died down and got deleted, then we came across the PS2 Record Book at GTPlanet which finally looked like a place without completely unreasonable race records. The minimal verification requirement, and... high standard of excellence displayed at GTPlanet, convinced me these were race scores worthy of comparison. So we started up a GameFAQs record book using the Chain Game records as a template. This is when GTA_Phreak showed up and I had to step up my game if I wanted a view of his tail lights as I crossed the finish line. Since the GameFAQs format is not appropriate for a record book, and I already had an account at GTPlanet for some B-spec stuff I was working on, I invited GTA Phreak and Morgoth22 to join me there.

Both of the scores I have posted in the PS2/Xbox record book were completed using a PS2. I had a disagreement with someone about the amount of slack in the Bandito Country race times, and dusted off my old PS2 disk long enough to settle the matter. There's still plenty of slack in that PS2 score, but best of luck finding the smooth line with the detail provided by a PS2. And while I was at it, I spent of few minutes to put up a reasonable NRG score. I was like Zoom and cringing at some of the times that are posted.

Fairly recently I posted a PC time for Badlands A in the main record book at GTPlanet. I was hoping to finally integrate the record books but it seems that it is no longer updated. However, I'll update the PC race records if anyone wants to post a score.

And all this talk about cheating is pointless. There has never been a reliable method to confirm that cheats aren't used. If you want to have the fun of competing for race times you've got to assume that most of the people are posting honest scores. I've got a pretty good idea of what times are reasonable, but something faster doesn't imply a cheat. For instance, someone posted a City Slickin' time of 55.90 in the comments of my video on Google. I'm fairly familiar with this event, and figure anything under 80 seconds is pretty damn good. Something around 70 second is worthy of a video. Under 60 seconds is completely unreasonable. So, do you think this person used cheats to score 4 seconds under that? I don't think so, but I still can't explain such a fast time for that lesson. I know this person, mostly through reputation, and don't believe he would cheat, hack, mod, or post a bogus time and I'll take his word as proof even without a screenshot. But 55.9 in City Slickin' - no damn way. I've got this one down as a glitch for lack of any other explanation. And if you want to speculate on the matter, you'll want to be careful who you call a cheater.

yeah, but taking a picture of my final (highest) level would mean I'd have to take one every time I passed a new level past 1416, what's wrong with just doing the stats screen?

Depends on the category and depends on the cheats available that could affect the stat-- example... number of kills cannot really be affected by cheats. Vigilante could for SA if there is a never hungry cheat (which I think there is-- not really sure)... I do have a way of verifying high number of kills on VC via vigilante-- how I verified the number of kills for T. Vercetti over there as his killing stat is unbelievable, however I believe it... the way I verified it is very subtle and I have only shared how I verified it with was Acidman over there as he was the one that was "beaten" by T. Vercetti-- I thought he deserved to know that the stat was legitimate-- he thought he had used a gameshark or cheat device to tweak the stats--

-- Mods were more of a concern in excluding PC racing records over there originally-- I have since merged the PC and PS2 race ones for VC since the best race times were all done on PS2 (eventually)

I take no responsibility for lack of updates for SA... the VC recordbook IS up to date.

For the person doing the vigilante run... it would be a good idea to take occasional screenshots (every 50 or 100 levels or so) in the event of a game lockup, power outage, etc.. you have proof of at least your progress to that point.

A recordbook here for SA may be a lost cause soon... It will probably be pretty hard to come back to the GTA IIIs after GTAIV comes out....

That's good.

I'm on a Rhino (tank) because it has easier controls but is on ground and is fairly slow, but the cannon is good though. But the helicopter controls I hate and are very hard to control. I think I got to over 300 on Rhino, though it's hard as hell.

Be sure to keep us informed on how the PS3 performs throughout your "journey". Any heating problems or freezes? And which gb version of the PS3 have you got?

I agree, you should test how the PS3 plays SA, I have never tried it on PS3 or PC so I don't know, but I hear a PC is not as stable for Vigilante Missions as the PS2 version.

I recently managed to reach level 1005, it took about 10 hours of straight palying, I was going to continue but decided to finish the mission and went home to save my progress, just incase it may have eventually crashed.
