Did everybody here hate Call of Duty 3? I know Seddo didn't (according to the COD3 topic you made). Treyarch did a good job i heard on United Offensive, so maybe if they put their heads together they can do a good job.

I think vehicles are good in a way because it makes the game more intense, and fun. Then again they can annoy when they attack you.

If they make the game as bloody as soldier of fortune or call of duty 4 then most people won't hate it so much, for being a ww2 game. I think a lot of people are not realizing the fact that most ww2 games aren't extreme bloody games. Also most ww2 games aren't good with the singleplayer. Call of Duty 2 was probably the best ww2 game ever.

@DonGarcia - I still love Call of Duty 2. Brothers in Arms wasn't that great but i owned it for the PS2, and the ps2 version didn't do so good compared to the xbox and PC. I liked that it had a story, but it was too hard, and the graphics were too bright.

Back to the vehicle thing. Imagine if this game was in the pacific. Wouldn't it be cool to control naval ships in multiplayer? Wouldn't it be cool if a plane attacked your ship and it began sinking? I know PC gamers will like this because of the bigger server. I'm hoping they get over 20 people for multiplayer, and i'm hoping the servers will be good because in late July, the servers for COD3 screwed up, and i could barely get into a 24 player game.

I loved CoD 3. And Big Red One. And United Offensive. Treyarc makes some good CoD games. So im looking forward to this game.

Personally, I'd like to see 'em take on Vietnam or Liberia - although those could both be truly disturbing. How about the civil war? WW1? An LA riots rail shooter?

How about a hypothetical WWIII in Central Europe during the eighties between NATO and the Warsaw Pact?

Now that would be a good game.

Liberia

Really? It would be a turkey shoot if you just decided to aim.

Effy in Chains

Korean War would be interesting. But i think CoD 'Nam would be awesome.

The Korean War would be good, I heard that at one point 60 British soldiers managed to hold off against 2000 Chinese soldiers!

lol at Chinese Human Wave Tactics.

I think Vietnam would be the best though, just image an the 'Apocalypse Now' style helicopter attack.

It would rule!

Here is another great clip from Apocalypse Now, just think how great COD 5: Vietnam, would be.

Gah, I'm f*cking sick of WW2 games. Why not make something else?

Seriously. Jesus. Is there no other idea for a war game anymore? They've beat that 5 year period into the f*cking ground. I don't want to run through war torn mid-20th century Europe anymore. It's old.

I think World War 1 could potentially work, but if there wasn't enough weapons many people wouldn't like it.

Exactly how many weapons could they use from WWI?

Not many. They'd be a f*ck ton of bolt action rifles. Would be a very slow paced trench war. I don't know how well that translates to video game action.

Very, very slow. They didn't even aim, their commanding Officer told them where to aim. It would be a horrible idea.

Sounds like something EA would do.

Bah. You aint got no vision. tounge.gif The experience lies in the extraordinary efforts of average soldiers ... those who go up and beyond, right?

Even the civil war could make for a good game if done right. Bolt action and single shot is f*cking intense. Who needs yet another iteration of the same weapon load, the same gameplay balance? Trench running and mustard gas!

Anyhow, as for Liberia being a turkey shoot - imagine the dead babies and human head soccer games, man. Brutal.

"The History Channel Presents: Civil War"

Seemed promising, and during the first 5 minutes of the first "mission" it WAS intense...and then the game failed...miserably.

First game i've ever returned within an hour of renting, let alone the first night. If done right cannons and one shot rifles would be sweet, but more effort then napkin drawings and maps that are nothing more then a hill with a lot of fences would be nice.

I want to know one thing; why did COD 4 sell so much? That is right, because it was modern warfare. Treyarch are going back to WW2, when obviously people are sick and tired (including me) of WW2 games. Who cares if it is in the Pacific! Many games have been set in the Pacific, so why try and recapture it?

I bought COD 4 because of Modern Warfare, and that was my first COD game, and the best one so far. So, will I buy COD 5 now? No, I do not think so.

But that is my opinion though.

It's good to still see people who aren't all.

ZOMG DA GUNS DON'T FIRE FAST ENUF AND WERE R DEH EXPLODING WRAPOZN!?1/!

f*ck that. CoD games have aways been about the atmosphere. WW1 bought in technolgies that had never been heard of before, especially during warfare.

Gigantic f*ck off tanks, pilots like the Red Baron, mustard gas.

Trench Warfare would be brilliant if done right, and if one company can do it right, it's Infinity Ward.

But clearly, judging from the reaction in this thread, that idea just won't sell. So of course it would never happen. confused.gif

So, if you didn't see this the first time.

No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

No, trench warfare would be absolutely awful, life expectancy during some parts of the war was 1 week or less if you were unlucky. You would be slogging through the mud in a crossfire from two maxims while mortars and field guns rain death down from upon you. And by the time you get to the trench its a few minute long knife, bayonet fight or nothing as the opposing force has withdrawn to fallback trenches, and you either keep going, wait for a counter attack, or you sit there and consolidate your position.

Or better yet, you could be sitting in a trench with mud up to your knees, under a constant barrage from artillery, 24/7, waiting for a line of soldiers trundle towards you picking them off one by one, maybe get to bayonets if your lucky. And from 1915 to early mid 1918 the frontline never moved, it would be the same thing over and over and over again. Thats just the Western Front.

The Eastern Front would be better, it was a little more maneuver orientated, but that was due to the VERY long front line with limited reinforcements, limited number of men for that matter, and it would be over by the time of the October Revolution.

Mustard gas? That would be fun since the vast majority of gas masks in WWI barely negated the effects of it "Oh here it comes! Crap I'm blind! MEDIC!" And besides it never was used much, depending on the winds it was just as dangerous to the attacker as the defender.

And the tanks, while they did render trench warfare obsolete, they had their problems. The early ones broke down, slow as hell, minimal armor due to the low power engine, which until the British Mark IV in 1917 they could be penetrated by standard rifle AP ammo. And very limited use until the closing of the war, but by then as you can guess, it was over. The battle of Cambri is the only one battle in 1917 that comes to mind as a REALLY large scale tank offensive.

No for practical reasons I don't think it would be fun. It was a war fought with modern technology with Napoleonic tactics.

Ok, hear me out. I believe the next game should be set during the Arab Israeli wars. Namely the Six Day war or the Yom Kipper War. A tacticians paradise, the largest tank fights since WWII. You would have varying locales, the Golan Heights with Syria, the West bank with Jordan, or the Sinai against the Egyptians. Different equipment would be possible, and massive battles. What's not to love?

Any thoughts?

World War I would suck. You load up a map lets say the Somme, you spawn in grab your bolt action and over the top. Someone has a machine gun say goodbye after running about 2 metres. Rinse and repeat and there you have the first world war only minus diseases such as trench foot and living in inches thick wet mud. (only the trenches part of course.)

The 6 day war would be great for its diversity. No Napoleonic war but meh. tounge.gif

The only problem i could see with the 6 day war would be its relative recentness and how volatile that region still is.

You think walking in a line would be fun? Or waiting for an hour while people in front of you are shooting?

I dont want to sound disrespectful but you dont really know much about that period if that is what you think. smile.gif

There was so much more that period than that. That was that last major war in which swords and cavalry were just as important as the artillery adn weaponry. It was when modern millitary tactics were begining to emerge and it was a period of great Millitary and social transition. I think it would be amazing. But i might be biased as it is my favourite period of history.

There was bolt action rifles in the WW2 games, was there not? Some of the best firearms ever made were bolt action. That's what I mostly used in the WW2 COD games, as well.

Of course there were but those were more powerful and there were not as wide of use with the introduction of automatics unless of course you were Russian. tounge.gif

How do you suppose that would work? Swords in a COD game is a recipe for disaster.

ok, well maybe it cant be done convincingly now. And CoD is not the right franchise for it but it would make an amzing game one day trust me.

They were the same f*cking guns. The Kar98 was used in both, the Lee Enfield was used in both, and chances are there were more that I'm forgetting. Both of those rifles were made in the late 1800s.

Call of Duty 5 can be a complete success if created right, or can bomb if done really badly. I never actually played Cod3, but I've read many reviews stating that Treyarch is the reason it wasn't as good as the Cod games before it.

I have faith in Treyarch that Cod5 will be a phenomenal. They already made a game during WW2, so they will improve in this one.
