I agree with that, WW2 weapons do require more skill definately. However, did you say that there will be perks in the new CoD5, perks in a WW2 game, wtf?

 

You know, people were able to shoot before they died as much then as now. You might not get radar protection and sh*t, but there'll be BASIC perks.

Oh, yeah. There'll be a bunch of people that started out wtih CoD4 that'll get it. I assume it will be like GTA IV (people want meaningless features, rather than a good storyline. IV could've used SA's features, but knowing R*, we'll see them in two games) and people will be crying over that you can use a huge chopper to shoot people down.

The choppers in CoD4 just ruin the game, I wish they would just be removed, just to make it more of an infantry style game. I can live with the airstrikes, its just the heli's that do my head in.

@gta star - I agree with you about the helicopters. Those whorish vehicles kept killing you at every second and every inch. However that kind of stuff is going to be in COD:WW according to Treyarch. Air strikes will be artillery strikes, and the replacement for helicopters is unknown so far. It might be just an airplane coming in and striking you with bullets. It could be anything actually.

First used in the pacific in 1944 on Tinian island, seems like suitable replacement.

 

 

My question is about the Japanese weapons, during the Pacific war they had almost no tanks, they were all in China. Though isn't the game having a Russian perspective? The Japanese used tanks against them during Operation August Storm, the Soviet attack into Manchuria. Also Japanese small arms, the absolute majority the weapons was the bolt action Arisaka rifle, I personally like the realism, though the casual gamers I assume would not want to be running around with bolt action rifles the whole time.

Yeah, they had MP44s (assuming you'll be storming Berlin, and not defending Stalingrad). I think two mission in CoD2 (the best CoD) were centered around tank battles, you were a commander. I thought they were pretty fun. I'm a bit sad that this thread isn't generating as many replies as CoD4... I mean, Call of Duty 4's multiplayer wasn't that groundbreaking (except for perks). So, instead of getting shot by some ultraskilled 15-yearold who plays the game for eight hours a day with an M1 Garand, it an M21 he shoots you with. I can't wait for this game.

I thought the perks were the worst bit about it. Martyrdom, Juggernaut and getting a heli for 7 kills pretty much made me hate it. I can only play Hardcore S&D since you don't usually get a 7 kill streak and people don't use Martyrdom because of friendly fire.

 

But aslong as WAW doesn't have perks as retarded as those (I hear that it does have perks afaik) it should be alright.

Seven kills for a heli and martydom were the only things that annoyed me.

 

Anyway, anyone have any guesses as to what battles might be in the game? We know we'll see the Russians storming Berlin, but it seems as though most of the game will focus on the Pacific theater.

Hmm, there were many significant battles in the Pacific theatre, I think we may see Wake Island, Okinawa, Iwo Jima will definatly be in there. It should be pretty good.

 

Also seeing as Naval and Aerial combat was just as important as the infantry in the Pacific theatre I wouldn't be suprised to see you take on the role of the Air force for certain sections of the game. Treyarch already did this in Big Red One and so they could build on it in CoD5.

Well at least it looks like they finally added co-op mode for 2 people on one console and up to 4 players online for the storyline. I'm looking forward to that.

If they do include it, it would be a easy campaign, at least compared to the fighting against the Germans.

 

The Soviets just rolled over the Japanese, hell, they were preparing to invade the Japanese homeland way before we were, but then the Atom Bomb occurred and ended the war.

Well, I'm already seeing commercials for this on TV which shocked me as I thought this game was a long ways away from being done.

 

I read this on a gaming site called TechBanyan....

 

 

Now the sad news.

 

The game is still in development for all the major consoles - Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.

 

Hopefully the game will be released in December 31, 2008. And the game is even yet to be rated by the regulation body.

I want to buy Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway and Gears of War 2, and Call of Duty: World at War at the same time. Also that includes the xbox live prepaid card i'll have to get. It really sucks though and i should've gotten a job this summer, but i guess i'll have to wait till next year. So i'm hoping it releases in December or after the holidays because i'll have money by then.

I'm also getting Brothers in Arms too! You could take a rocket launcher and it can cut Nazis in half! I've been awaiting a WW2 game with intense gore. The other brothers in arms wasn't that blood, but there was a lot of strong language in it. Only cutscenes were pretty bloody like the first mission in road to hill 30 when they are fighting on the hill. I'm looking forward to non-cinematic violence in that game

Have you seen the new vids? Theres one where a guys finger gets shot and is hanging off, and in the Ubidays 08 trailer Captain Baker has cuts all over his face. Looks really cinamtic and violent this game.
