Bad graphics in new screen

It's probably another early screenshot, going by his hair and how now it's shorter.

No it's not, it was just released today. Look at gta4.net home page.

Actually it is old, it was only in scanned form before.

Most of them are like that.

The image has been put onto a PC so it's not going to be 100% accurate to when you come to play the game on a TV. Just remember, the game will be continuously moving and fast flowing, so it'll be realistic when all frames are streaming. smile.gif

yeah, it is possable for a screenshot to be taken early in the development process and only recently released. This is another example of this, http://media.gtanet.com/images/3860_gta_iv.jpg. Thats why its not on the official gtaiv website, look at the ones on there the "new" ones look much better.

San Andreas had better graphics then that so I would say thats an early shoot but released late. Many people wanted to have more pictures of info, so there you go. I'm just waiting for a PC VERSION.

This is the most important thing to remember... You can't judge the GTA4 graphics solely by looking at a few screens. When you actually play the game and everything flows together, then you can make an accurate decision about the graphics. Even the trailers aren't quite a full representation of the new game.

Isn't the background just 'out of focus'? Like if you take a picture with a camera, and it's focused on Niko so the background looks a bit fuzzy?

The screenshot look pretty great to me. Now I know magazine journalists can exaggerate about games but just about all those that viewed the those 2 demonstrations from Rockstar said that the game looked amazing in it's early build. This was at least 6 mouths ago as well, so the graphics are going to look stunning in the end.

I love how so many use the "it's a beta shot" or "it's an old screenshot" to justify sh*t graphics.

For IV's graphics I'm not expecting much from what I'm seeing, just no terrible jaggies/orange sunsets like San Andreas PS2 and I'll be completely fine with the graphics.

I think thats actually something R* was going for. Look in Jordan's trailer thread and he mentions there's some sort of focus work going on with the scene where Roman steps on the roach and Niko, in the background, is a little out of focus. Not sure what to make of it.

look how sh*tty the graphics looked in the gta 3 beta, and how much better they looked in the final version..So that's the reason you CAN justify sh*tty graphics if the screenshot is from an early build.

The detail in this screenshots is amazing, you can actually now see inside the vehicles now like the gear stick and everything, this is nothing revolutionary but it looks cool never less.

Oh ye complainers of graphics, gather 'round, as I'm here to present a fact to you disbelievers on this eve of Christmas. First, all seen graphics are a definite step up from anything we've played in past GTA titles; San Andreas included. That, gentlemen, is a fact.

Think back to a time when GTA III was released, and it reigned as the king of sandbox games. Would you consider it's graphics groundbreaking for it's time? I wouldn't. Then there came Vice City. Groundbreaking graphics? Good, but not the best. San Andreas? Again, not the best for their time. Does this take away from the fact that, GTA still remains the kind of sandbox games? No. It doesn't. Furthermore, all shown graphics (for IV) are very impressive in comparison to past titles. And being the user of common sense, that I am, I choose to understand how a sandbox title won't be capable of using graphics on par to the likes of Call of Duty 4, a game that requires you follow a set path - not an open world to do as you please.

If I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'm not here to take away your freedom of speech. But wake up, gentlemen. I sometimes wonder why some of you are even here, with your constant criticism and bickering. Show me a game that does it better than GTA, and I'll show you a surprised man. You might find that task a difficult one. And on that note, have a merry Christmas, all.

Do you have any idea how amazing the graphics for GTAIII - SA were for an open world game?!?

Anyone who ever complained about old GTA graphics doesn't know sh*t about how advanced it was. wink.gif

There was no reason to complain at all, those games went above and beyond. They couldn't get much better.

Thats what I thought. Actually its a cool effect. If something is really close to you and your focusing on it, wouldn't things farther back look kind of....blurry?

That shot of times square is so old that they hadnt even modelled proper police cars, well, I say modelled, but the taxi is complete meaning they only had to texture it, although the cars are not finished, the landscape looks amazing, I wonder if it was a render?
