NamelessFlux Posted December 24, 2007 Share Posted December 24, 2007 This is my first post but i have been looking around and around at people speccing on GTAIV's release date and i'm surprised NOBODY has yet brought this up. After following patterns with the recent release of the box art for the game plus getting our final trailer and STILL not announcing a release date. I've come to only one conclusion. We're not gonna get a release date until GTAIV goes gold. Even Take Two's big cheese stated this: "It's a fair question given that we weren't able to stick to our firm date the last time. We're going to give a firm date when we are utterly convinced that we have it and that isn't right now. "We know it's highly anticipated. Right now our view is to put out a high quality title and we're not in the business of disappointing investors." "I think there was a concern initially when we slipped that we missed the boat in terms of Christmas but I think that concern has been alleviated. "I think most people see it as okay – hardware penetration is going to grow over Christmas and because this is a must-have title it's probably okay that we're not selling it in the Christmas season. So the release date is basically WHEN. IT'S. DONE. And I can understand why they didn't state that three word sentence. Duke Nukem Forever anyone? Christ it's a good job Grand Theft Auto IV is not turning into the next Duke Nukem Forever, that game is still supposed to be in development what a piss take for the fans. Anyway I have to agree I think TakeTwo know the date alright but they are keeping quiet over it for the moment. Let's put it this way January is too early for the release period, February is quite possible but it still seems unlikely especially if Rockstar do not make a proper release date announcement soon. March and April I think it will be release by, one of the those dates hopefully a March release. If the game releases past April I hope Rockstar have a good reason to do so. And as for which month it would come out, i've heard of release dates of games being unannounced until the last second and since they wanna get this game polished up which i'm sure won't take long, a month or two at the most. I know they're gonna get it out ASAP and not hoard it to maximize profits, again going back on the fact that Take-Two's president says the game will be hit no matter when it's released. I agree, they are just people. They cant make the now current generation systems make magical processes happen. The new systems do have limitations and Rockstar needs to make sure the game works properly. They don't have a "fix the game button" after all. I know what you mean, but at some point you have to play ball. Go with what you got. They could have spent months and months perfecting San Andreas but at some point you have to have confidence in the product and let it go. I say March/April. Maybe some of it will depend on how many PS3s and 360's sold this Christmas, but other than that, it's time to play ball. The game should at least sell 2 million units in a few months. I know most PS3 owners will buy it, and maybe a good share of 360 owners. But if they keep waiting for a bigger install base to make their internal numbers make sense financially, then they could drag it out until Summer.
