Just a topic to see how many of you have the luxury of high-definition gaming, and those who aren't as lucky and just use a standard TV for Xbox 360/PS3 gaming. Myself, I use a standard 21" flat screen, with the advanced scart lead you have to buy seperately for a better image (must have for those gaming on an SDTV).

So, fire away. icon14.gif

Poll requested.

14" CRT screen sad.gif... But soon I will have a 28 inch pure flat!

What difference does this make? Is it just an AV cable specially designed for the Xbox? I have been wondering if I shouldget one.

I barely have money for the games. And my classes are hard enough to keep me away from a job, I'd fail at every course. Could take fewer courses but then I'd take me forever to graduate.

At first looking at all of the reviews for it and how many of those who bought it gave it 5 stars, I was rather skeptical as anyone would be. After buying it, it is certainly something every 360 owner must have. It ouputs proper RGB as opposed to the standard composits, gives off a much more crisp, solid and vibrant image, and also makes the text about 10x clearer (although make sure your TV has an RGB scart socket; most modern ones do though).

Certainly saved me from forking out more money for an HDTV. icon14.gif

Thanks for the explanation smile.gif

But could you give me a link to a clear image of what the input on the TV looks like? I don't know if I have one or not sad.gif

I do. smile.gif

I bought a 32" LCD Samsung one last year, i went to 4 different stores and as soon as i mentioned the '360' they all pointed to the same television. I was like i'm having that one.

One of the best things i've bought, i used to play on a 12" portable so going to a 32" HDTV was a massive awesome step. I could never go back to playing on a non-HD TV now, it's the worst thing when i go around my mates when he's using a sh*tty TV it's just plain weird now.

It's just a standard scart socket like almost all TVs have; it is just down to whether it supports RGB signal. Chances are, if it was made in 2000 or later, then you should be fine. I just didn't want to give the impression that it would work on any old TV.

@Seddo: HDTVs are overrated. Compared to the advanced av lead, it isn't much of a step-up. But of course if I had one offered to me on a plate, I wouldn't refuse. wink.gif

1080i 42'' HD goes along with my Xbox 360. icon14.gif

Ouch. Mine's 37", because the entertainment center is too small, and I don't want to sell it. But it looks sex anyway. inlove.gif

There's a gorgeous 40 inch Samsung LCD 720p at Wal Mart for around 1200... it looks better than the 1080ps they got set up there... I'm waiting for the right time to make my move.

What is actually better 720P or 1080i, i'm confused with these 'I's and 'P's.

At the moment i've been using 720p thinking that's the best.

I'd say the progressive. P > I. Plus, the difference between 1080 and 720 is only really noticeable on a huge TV and it's only one of many elements to a good TV... I'd rather have a really good model 720 than some Westinghouse 1080.

I bought a 32" Samsung LCD the day the 360 came out. What a day that was indeed! I have two 360s. One hooked up to my 32" HDTV and the other hooked up to my 22" Samsung monitor. It's awesome for when people come round, though I find myself just using the monitor nowadays rather than my HDTV.

While we're on the subject, has anyone ever used their monitor with the 360 and plugged the VGA cable into the end of the monitor's extention with a female/female gender changer? I'm asking this as my current monitor doesn't have a VGA input, just the chord coming out of the end. It's about the same size as my TV too, but I'm not fussed as I'm happy with my current picture. Just looking at my options.

I've got a 27" Panasonic SDTV, which tends to shut itself off after playing for a few minutes.

I'm getting a new SDTV soon, however.

@Deuce: Which part of that image is the scart input/output? The huge outlet in the middle, I'm guessing?

The end of the advanced av cable looks like this. It's just a scart lead for the 360 which plugs into your normal TV scart, so long as it supports RGB signal (again, most TVs do).

Don't hesitate in getting one if you're interested; if the worst comes to the worst you can always get a refund.

How exactly is it different from a normal AV cable?

I have mine hooked up to my 19" Samsung LCD monitor, btw. Using the Microsoft VGA cable and running at, what I believe is, 720p.

I'm sure that I was able to pick "720p" in the display menu in the Xbox 360 settings, but after the Fall update I can't anymore, only the resolution, which reset to 640x480 after the update. Does that sound right?

I'm not actually sure, all I know is the standard composits don't output proper RGB (and as a result it causes the colours to look washed out and mushy) whereas these ones do. I'm unsure as to how it improves the image definition and makes the text clearer, though. I'm surprised Microsoft didn't include it with the bundles though - people are forced to fork out more money to get a decent picture.

When I was using my monitor, my settings were at 1280x1024. Anything lower looked less crisp compared.

Unless you mean it reset to 640x480 before you changed it to a higher resolution.

You talking about your sig or your TV? tounge.gif

It seems there's an equal amount to those who own a HDTV and those who use an SDTV. Interesting..
