Love.Life
ok as you all well know about 5 weeks ago i acountered a gangster. I won't tell you the story as you can read it yourself. But he pretty much slit the tyres on my car. Now my lawyer has told me weve got a court appearance and ive got to give the evidence of what happened along with the club CCTV footage which the club manager is showing. However im not sure if i should go. I mean the police probably have enough other evidence against him to have a courtcase against him. So it might not matteri f i dont go. Also I might be being paranoid here (to much weed which got me into this mess in the first place) but don't gangsters hunt and kill witnesses down. Im a bit worried and not sure what to do. I need some adivce on whether to go or not to go. Thanks for your time. By the way the Court appearance is in 8 days time time. So next monday. Iminicus
So you want to commit a crime then? If you don't show up you can be arrested. Go. You might not even have to present evidence.
tuareg
Im pretty sure that the dude does have a background of somekind, most certainly not an advantage for your future physical state. You should have just left it were it was in the first place.
Eddie280
dejavu. This is very like a topic from g.b.a. Anyway. Yea if i was you mate iw would go to court. Police may have evidence against this guy but sometimes its not enough unless someone can point him out and confirm who the guy is. Also has the guy been caught yet? becasue you might only have to give evidence to a judge and jury if the guy isnt in court for whatever reason. Voodoo
Did you receive a subpoena from the court? If so, you have to go or they will issue a warrant for your arrest. If not, it's up to you. He sounds like a small time hood to me, so I doubt you're going to have a contract out on you if you testify. Then again, tire slashing is a major crime in Mayberry. Edit - If you have a lawyer, why are you asking us? Edited December 23, 2007 by VoodooSlumlord
guilty.by.association
Good luck dude. Just tell the truth and don't act nervous of fidget. Also don't get cocky. Definitely go, he ruined your car, nail the bastard, you get up there and show em whose boss Court isn't too bad, it's quite safe in the court room itself, well, depends on the place you're at. EDIT: Iminicus is right, you may not have to show evidence or do anything. The one i was at, we prepared our evidence speeches, got in there, stood at the back and the judge handled it without needing us. Depends if he decides to plead guilty on the day. Just relax Edited December 23, 2007 by guilty.by.association

If my tires get popped by a shady looking person, the last thing that i think of doing is going to the police. Cant you just cancel the charges? Sina84
So gangsters are going around slashing tyres these days? Man they've really fallen off since the Al Capone era. Gangsters these days can't really abuse the system like before, so they don't really need to worry about public perception like Capone. Todays gangsters only have one way to make money: Be scary as f*ck. And um, I'm not sure how the law works where you're from but do you actually have to go or is it a choice? If it's a choice then don't go. Even if he gets sent up he's probably not gonna be there for life, and he doesn't seem like the sensible type given what he did. He seems like an evil motherf*cker, and I'm sure he wouldn't be too happy to see you there ratting him out.

Thinking everything has a solution. Well of course theres a solution for everything, regardless if its good or bad its still a solution. People are very wrong when they think that situations like this can be handled though. Thing is, if he recognises him in court, he isnt going to forget anything that he'll get, let it be jail or a penalty. He wont pat him on his back and tell him he was right. Edit: Grammar nazi... Not going might be a solution .. maybe just not the right one What you said comes back to what i was saying, he would not go because he would be scared of reprisals. I admit, it is a scary tought, but imo it shouldn't stop us from doing what we think is right. What if everyone acted that way, and never shown up or stood up against criminals ? what a wonderful world this would be .. altho it already isn't very nice

What if everyone acted that way, and never shown up or stood up against criminals ? what a wonderful world this would be .. altho it already isn't very nice Why don't you go in his place then mr hero and you can handle the consequences. Anybody can talk about what they would do in his situation, but I'm fairly sure if you were in his shoes you'd be hiding under your bed right now like most internet tough guys who try suspiciously hard with their stand up for yourself persona. In the real world, nomather how tough or strong or how much of a hardass you are, bringing that kind of attention on yourself and the people around you just so the police can add a bullsh*t property damage offense to help strengthen their probably already rocksolid case just a smidgeon, is downright idiotic and reckless. Now, if he had been the sole witness to a shooting where this guy had killed 5 people, and his witness would be the only thing to bring him down, then I could see he would have a real moral dilemma on his hands, and it wouldn't be acceptable to walk away from that. But in this case there's no dilemma, just a stupid risk not worth taking.

I didnt relise i was being selfish for worrying that pointing out a gangster in court might have my life ended unusally short. Tut tut i've been so selfish . Anyways yeh i will probs (still not sure though as Sina makes a good point) go i just hope i dont have to point him out and that the police do have enough other evidence to get him put down for a long stretch. Thanks for the ideas guys Edited December 23, 2007 by Love.Life
Eddie280
You said it was in Manchester right? well I know Manchester is rough but the Gangsters there arent going to hunt you down and put a horse head in your bed like the Corleones. This guy probably belonged to a local group of hard men who run some of the establisments in the area you were in. I doubt that if you send him down for a few years his 'family' will come after you. So i dont think you have anything to worry about.

Dave
I'm glad I don't live on the mean streets of Manchester if there are gangsters around slashing tyres. It takes someone really high up, almost untouchable, to commit a crime of such heinous nature. This guy is clearly in the big league and I'd stay well away or he could have your wing mirrors off next.
Otter
So gangsters are going around slashing tyres these days? Man they've really fallen off since the Al Capone era. Hey - Capone was know for cutting the hooves off your horses and breaking down model T tires for kindling. He just did it while smuggling booze so it was cooler. @ Sin - you've got to dial back on the self-righteous rants, dude.
Love.Life
wow dave i so cannot hint the sarcasm in your voice. Although slashing tyres isnt a big thing. In england possesion of a 9mm and being part of a drugs gang is quite a bad thing you know believe it or not
