Sleep Talking

Anyone have friends stay over a lot and then hear them talking in their sleep when they pass out? My friend John has been doing that all night long. He's been saying some ridiculous things, though most of the completely unintelligible.

Anyway, on to what I was really wondering: I sometimes can hear myself talking in my sleep. Like, I can hear the sound of my voice in my head, but I can't seem to stop. Is this kind of a form of sleep paralysis? I've heard people talk about that, but never really experienced it myself until lately, but I've always had minor occurrences of not being able to stop talking in my sleep, I just thought it was natural for everyone to realize they were talking in their sleep but could not stop it, but my friend informs me that I'm totally nuts and that when he does it he never knows that he's actually talking.

So what do you guys think?

P.S.

John is a light-weight.

Bottle him. I assume you have been drinking beer? So throw some bottles at him. Empty is the preferred, don't wanna waste beer hurting someone.

I used to do it quite often, but never seemed to think of it much. I remember smiling and not being able to stop as well, like some part of me was conscious and the other wasn't. Weird.

you can have conversations with sleeping people. the brain thinks your voice is from the dream and the sleeper often replys, it's freaky though.

"Tmobile has great tariffs and low prices, call this number to join!". Yeh. weird wow.gif

Two nights ago, my girlfriend starting saying, "I can't do it, I can't do it" in her sleep. I bent down and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her slightly as I said, "I believe in you!"

My girlfriend says some messed-up stuff in her sleep. One time she fell asleep on the couch, and while moving her she actually opened her eyes, looked at me and said, "We can't do it. We're going to need a security clearance to get to Vegas". She is always completely unaware of it.

I have woken myself up in my sleep laughing, but no-one has ever commented on me talking in my sleep. In the three and a half years I've been with my girlfriend she has made no mention of sleep-talking on my end. I'd assume that if my own laughing wakes me up, talking would have much the same effect.

It's because the part of the brain you need to tell yourself to stop talking is asleep, while another part knows you are talking but can't stop it. At least that's what I think it is.

Got nothing to worry 'bout, it happens to everyone.

I used to sleep talk, I think i grew out of it.

2 nights ago me and my bf were watching Hostel and his 14 year old brother runs into the room screaming RUN RUN! We were like what the hell? Then he ran into the kitchen and started talking about spaghetti. I couldn't tell if he was high or sleep walking/talking. We decided on the latter since he has a history of it.

It was a good laugh smile.gif but don't worry you're completely normal. Some people like my nana, walk around the neighbourhood at night talking in her sleep. That's more of a danger.

One of my friends sleep talks. I don't exactly remember what he utters but if you try to wake him up, he starts kicking. So I kick back. It's fun to fight with a sub-concious person. sigh.gif

I usually go to bed much later than all my family, and my room is right beside my parent's room, and I hear my mum talking in her sleep sometimes randomly. No one else does, and my dad doesn't notice it either.

So that's what they say now.

Your friend is a demon, who plots your agonizing death out loud in his sleep. You should decapitate John. Make sure you bury his head at least 200 yards away from the body.

I knew someone who talked in his sleep, he said something like mnamnamna and then just fell silent, I had to bite my pillow to stop laughing. biggrin.gif

He said I talked in my sleep about a girl called Mira, but as i don't know any girls (called Mira or not) I think he was just being an idiot. colgate.gif

No, you eat his brain in hopes of gaining his power. Everybody knows that.

I sleep talk. I use to get nervous about what I would say if I woke up from a really good and steamy dream...but those fears are long over since I don't live at home.

My girlfriend is a different mess though. She mumbles to you in her sleep and wakes you up. It drives me crazy. One day she woke me up, while she was sleep talking, just to say "I love you." Sounds cute enough, right? Wrong! Right after I said it back, the rolled over and farted on my thigh. She still denies it to this day. But it was f*cked up.

I talk with myself inside my brain all the time, it's pretty fun, like there is two of you in there. But that can get worse and change to something like a big mess of voices in your head, usually happens when you're too tired and disturbed, and it's horrible. It's like your brain is inside some busy place and your body isn't.

But I don't sleep talk or sleep walk. If I'm having a dream that's too realistic, I can wake up making some sort of strange sound, like I'm trying to scream to get out of it.

If I sleep walked, I'd be in serious trouble, since I sleep on the top of a bunk bed =P

I have always wanted to record myself and others as they sleep to see what they do or what they say. I wonder how many people have tried it?

What is sleep talking?

Sleep talking is the utterence of speech or sounds during sleep without awareness of the event.

What are the symptoms?

* speech or utterances during sleep

* Episodes are not associated with awareness of talking

* Polysomnography (sleep recording) shows episodes of sleep talking that can occur in any stage of sleep

* It can be associated with psychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders

* It can be associated with medical disorders such as febrile illness (fever)

* It can be associated with other sleep disorders such as sleepwalking, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, or REM sleep behavior disorder

I usually go to bed much later than all my family, and my room is right beside my parent's room, and I hear my mum talking in her sleep sometimes randomly. No one else does, and my dad doesn't notice it either.

that's not sleep talking. hehe ph34r.gif

I supposedly talk and move about a lot in my sleep. If I fall asleep at a mate's house drunk, I'll "travel" across the room and wake up in a completely different place. I'll mutter things as well, not clearly but you can tell I want to say something. My mates claim I said "I have to practice my fingering" while sleeping once, which was weird as I saw an episode of Family Guy with that quote in it earlier that night. I suspect what you hear (especially that which has a direct influence on your thoughts) is embedded into your subconscious mind. Probably why we dream things that have occurred in real life, or things that are based on real events.

I've been doing that as far as I can remember too.

on sag's issue though, when I have some kind of exam coming up or have some kind of burden I usually snore a lot, one thing though, sometimes I become partially subconscious during my sleep and can hear myself snore, yet a split second later I lose this "state" of consciousness.

another problem I have during sleeping is the damned alarm clock, everytime it starts ringing, my sub conscious mind or w/e tells me that I'm only dreaming and I should continue sleeping. I mean I can hear it perfectly, but literally, some voice tells me to keep on sleeping.

the subconscious mind is more powerful than we think. if only we could control it sad.gif
