Lars46
Ok, I plan on building a silent Low End Gaming Computer, but without water cooling. I have chosen these parts, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131022 ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $94.99 3 Business Day Shipping $6.61 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103204 AMD Athlon X2 BE-2400 Brisbane 2.3GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor - Retail $99.99 Free 3 Business Day Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817104035 FSP Group ZEN 400 ATX 2.2V 400W Power Supply 110 - 240V cUL, CE, CB, FCC - Retail $134.99 3 Business Day Shipping $9.14 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814121092 ASUS EN8500GT SILENT/HTP/256M GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Retail $82.99 3 Business Day Shipping $5.84 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811147044 Rosewill R6AR6-BK 0.8mm SECC 120mm Fan ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $39.99 3 Business Day Shipping $18.18 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145590 CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $67.00 Free 3 Business Day Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835185004 Scythe S-FLEX SFF21D 120mm Case Fan - Retail $14.99 Free 3 Business Day Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148262 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $69.99 Free 3 Business Day Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827135156 ASUS Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 14X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe - Retail $39.99 3 Business Day Shipping $6.33 It all adds up to about $693, but some parts have rebates. Are these parts good? What do you think? This computer would only have two fans, the Scythe S-FLEX SFF21D 120mm Case Fan (I'll be replacing the 120mm fan that comes with the Rosewill Case) and the CPU fan. Would it be enough? Should I stick with the stock CPU fan or do you recommend a different one? All and any help is appreciated.
Primer43
I have SilentX fans in my computer, along with watercooling the processor. My pc runs nearly silent. SilentX fans are probably the best fans I've bought as far as sound goes.
3niX
Well... I personally dont think that the 8500gt is worth it (its supposed to be a gaming PC)... better get an 8600gt (silent) from Gigabyte. You might even get a free game with it... supreme commander or something.
Picolini
I'd highly recommend getting at least an 8600GT. I have two of them and besides better specs all around, it's got a fan, which means it'll run much cooler. It is about $20 more right away, but they have a mail in rebate deal going on right now for the EVGA 8600GT's (which are the kind I have, no problems yet). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130085 I'd really recommend looking at that one instead. edit: I did just notice you want a silent PC. I still don't think the benefit of a slightly quieter PC would outweigh the higher heat, and therefore faster wear on the parts. Since I've put in my second 8600GT I haven't noticed a difference in noise. Edited December 24, 2007 by Picolini
3niX
Well... He is also getting a 120mm case fan.
Lars46
Thanks for the help. I'll consider the SilentX and Gigabyte Geforce 8600gt. But it still has to be silent Picolini, I just can't stand the noise GPU fans make. I have really good hearing.
Rocketkiller
You can always install a silent heatsink/fan for it like the Zalman VF-900, you won't be able to hear it in quiet mode, and it will cool the card much better than any original heatsink/fan. As for fan, I gave a 80mm Nexus as an exhaust and a 120mm Yate Loon for intake, I can't hear them over the sound of my hard drives, in fact, the only fan I can hear is my CPU fan, which is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64. I can't stand the high-pitched whiney sound of single slot VGA coolers, so I bought an Arctic Cooling Accelero X2, and it's pretty much silent.
