Whytey1337
When i try to set the resolution (1440x900) on VC and press enter, it just exits out to windows no error or anything. I have updated the patch to 1.1 and it does the same on GTA III aswell. I have a Geforce 8800, i am guessing thats the main cause but is there anyway around this? -Whytey
evilrex
Not sure what to say, sounds like a problem with VC and GTA III. I've sometimes have problems where VC likes to reset my resolution to 800x600. But never anything like that, the only thing I can think of is VC and GTA III having trouble supporting that resolution. What's the highest screen res you can get without the game crashing?
Whytey1337
well its 1440x900 but the game exits when i set any resolution

Ring_of_Fire
How about deleting the [.set] file?
Ray Carter
1440x800? That sounds kinda wide.. Maybe you need a wide monitor (if you don't already), or change the a setting to widescreen. then change the resolution.

gtamodder
if any1 could set their gta vice to 1280x1024 and send me the .set i would appreciate it =D ty Sorry no one can, because it comes information about your hardware, etc. If you use the .set file from another person, the game will crash. Have you tryed deleting the .set file (located in My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files) Also, try windows 98 compatibilty mode (by right clicking gta-vc.exe, click properties, compatibilty, tick the box and choose windows 98, then apply then ok, then try changing to that resolution. gtamodder
You probably started a New game or loaded one. When you start playing, you're locked into that resolution until you exit. So start up Vice City, don't load a game or start a new game, or straight to options, then you should be able to change it.
advocat3
i am getting the exact same error. i get multiple exception handling errors when i change to ANY resolution from 640x480x16. Here's what's worse: VC / GTA III just came out on steam 2 days ago and that's where I got them, and it won't let you run in a compatability mode under windows 2000. which means i can't set it to windows 98 and try to see if it will work. here's the problems: 1) GTA VC and GTA III run in 640x480x16 by default 2) attempting to change it to anything, with and without widescreen enabled to non widescreen and widescreen resolutions (even my monitor's suggested default of 1440x900) produce an exception error 3) alt tabbing from the menu produces the same exception error 4) hitting quit on the main menu produces the same exception error 5) steam brings up an error when running GTA III / VC in compatability mode under windows 2000 specs: microsoft xp home edition (5.1, build 2600) amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 3800+ (running at 2.01GHZ) 2046 mb of ram direct x 9.0c 2x nvidia 7600gt (only running once atm for troubleshooting, sli is an option but didn't help at all) 256mb onboard memory syncmaster 941bw monitor main driver: nv4_disp.dll version: 6.14.0011.6921 date: 12/5/2007 attempted solutions: also, i have tried deleting the .set file and it didn't work. i also tried ending all non critical processes and that didn't help. i spent an hour on the phone with someone from rockstar and nothing they could come up with worked. rolling back drivers didn't work, nor did updating them. using 3danalyze to force window mode didn't do anything, nothing started. caz32
Has anyone came up with a solution then? i just bought this game and i have the same problems with it being in 640x and it just comes up with an error when i change.
Ring_of_Fire
I find that when it is in comaptibility mode, it will crash. Simply turn off the compatibility mode and then delete [.set] file.
