SyphonPayne Posted December 22, 2007 Share Posted December 22, 2007 Hello, Well I've decided to look into buying a new gaming PC, and have been trying to get the best price to power ratio and I would like to see what some of the more experienced PC builders would have to say about my decisions on parts. 5 general questions: 1.) Are all of these parts compatible? 2.) Am I getting the best deal? 3.) Are all of these parts I selected quality parts? 4.) Am I missing any necessary parts/buying more parts than necessary? (other than DVD-ROM I have a spare one) 5.) Do any of these things come with cables (SATA etc.) or do I have to buy those separately too? Also, the power supply sucks. 430W is not enough. Get 600-800 watts. 4. You are missing a DVD+RW dual/double layer with LightScribe disc burner. LG/Samsung are good brands. 5. SyphonPayne Posted December 22, 2007 Author Share Posted December 22, 2007 Hmm well from what I've read SLI isn't really all that cost-effective except when you run at much higher res I'll probably be using 1360x768. As for the PSU I have heard that amperage on the +12v rail (whether it's dual or single) is what really matters and isn't 18 amps sufficiant? I already said that I have a spare DVD-ROM drive I will use for now to save money, besides I can just switch my lightscribe drive out from my old PC. So adding a little bit on the PSU will pay off in the long run, imo. I'd say go with at least a 500W PSU. The E6600 should do you just fine, I've got one and I love it. You are going to want to go with Windows Vista 32 or 64-bit. Microsoft might soon cancel support for Windows XP in the future like how they did with Windows 98-Me already. Could you (or someone) recommend me a good power supply and SLI board on newegg? Just buy a SLI motherboard that has SATA 3.0Gbps, FireWire, 4-8GBs of DDR2/3 RAM capable, and USB ports. If not, then go with your current choice. Tomshardware recently made a good article about budget PCs. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/17/sbm_low_cost_system/ Also, I suggest reading a few reviews/articles about PSUs before buying one... they can be one of the most important parts of a PC. And I can confirm it since I have seen plenty of them being toasted.
