SR 2 vs. GTA IV

Having played SR and every single GTA game 'yes even 1 & 2'

 

I have found Saint's Row kept my interest alot longer then any other GTA game. Not to forget it was the first in its genre to incorporate Online Multiplayer, which was tons of fun "Protect the Pimp"!

 

Saints Row 2, is sure to bring some new things that GTA4 wont. Same goes the other way around. The thing that was great about saints row is it left you with a cliffhanger story... Saints Row 2 is picking up that story a few years later. GTA games have never had continuity except for some cameo's and light story work.

 

I will play and love both in the end.

GTA IV vs SR2...the graphics are much more crisp yet smooth in GTA IV making it seem more realistic. SR2 still has that video game cartoony look.

It's time to see past the fact that there will be contenders that will eventually outdo the GTA Series. Not saying SR2 is going to but no genre remains kinged for long.

I do not like Saints Row. And there have been alot of SR2 topics and they all get locked.. Just looking at the screenshots, GTA IV looks better. And you know There will be some ideas and stuff from SR1 that will probably be in GTA IV. But R* will build on those ideas and make them even better. Im willing to bet the online Multiplayer in GTA IV will be a nice surprise for us.

Yes i think they could...In the new saints row you can Duel wield,use human shields,put up any object and use to hit people with eg.rip out a telephone box and smack someone with it

Anobody who have ever played a GTA (+ san andreas), yep. That's my opinion, i know a lot of people will disagree, but to me, it doesn't makes to play a GTA-like (or sandbow game, call it whatever you want), because it's a sandbox game. The damn game have to be GOOD.

Firstly, Saints Row 2 is packing a lot of elements that should have been included in the first place, namely aircraft. Fixed wing aircraft and helicopters are in, as are motorbikes, jet-skis, speedboats and more, and most of them will have performance upgrades available. The addition of aircraft in particular is handy given that the Stilwater location in SR2 will apparently be 45% larger than that of the first game.

 

 

Character customisation, which was already quite deep in the previous game, has been enhanced to the point where you can customise your character’s sex, or in the words of the developers, “you can play as a man, a woman or anything in between”. Yes, your dreams of controlling an Uzi-toting transsexual are about to come true (you sicko).

 

 

Players will now be able to take hostages and use them as human shields, which will apparently be particularly useful during interior combat. You can also dual-wield ranged firearms, and rip things out of the environment such as road signs and mailboxes to use as melee weapons, Incredible Hulk style. In fact, nearly every object in the game’s sprawling environment can be interacted with in one way or another.

 

 

One massive inclusion in the game is the online co-op mode. We’re not talking the watered-down two-player component from the last game, this is a substantial co-op mode that allows you to play through the entire story and all the side missions with a friend over Xbox Live, ala Crackdown. Can you even imagine how cool that will be? The developers are also promising additional mission objectives specific to the co-op mode in order to put a greater focus on teamwork.

 

 

Not only is the city of Stilwater much larger in SR2 than it was in the original, it’s also set to feature over 130 building interiors to explore and/or crash through, six new above ground districts and four underground, plus every district from the first game has been retouched and redesigned to make the experience seem fresh.

 

While Rockstar’s GTA IV seems to be focussing on realism, Saints Row 2 is shaping up to be an enjoyable hyper-realistic alternative. We’ll have more in the coming months, but for now we’ll leave you to ponder how much funnier throwing yourself in front of traffic during the Insurance Fraud missions will be with a friend

Look bud, I know we tend to get a little anxious for the release of GTAIV. Making these kind of threads on the other hand is beyond me. I understand that some info has been leaked about SR2, and you probably read the whole article, but don't let that discurage from the fact that they are trying to hype thier game up before GTA even gets to the NEXT GEN level. You haven't even played GTA at that level yet so this assumption is completely nullified.

I'm gonna be in the minority here, but I liked SR more than I liked SA. After following SA pretty much every day following the official announcement and the first exclusive preview in Game Informer of May, 2004, after playing the game for a good 3 months, I was bored. The missions were boring, alot of promised things were either left out or turned out not as good as they could've been, and only a few characters were anywhere near the quality of those in VC (my favorite and best GTA experience) or 3.

 

Saints Row had good graphics for a next-gen title (the first next-gen title of its genre I may add), the cars and customization was done well, the characters were somewhat interesting (they had David Carradine for Christ's Sake), and the gameplay was spot on. Ragdoll was cool and was able to keep me interested in killing random people and opposing gang members far longer than SA could (and whatever happened to the ragdoll that was supposed to be in SA?). The soundtrack was cool, and I don't know if something was wrong with your 360 or your eyes, but my SR copy was never laggy, and it was far from ugly.

 

Will SR2 give GTA:IV a run for its money, 99% sure it won't, but that does not escape the fact that SR and SR2 will go down in gaming history as very good games regardless of the fact that the longer established GTA series was/is better.

What ? GTA can stay King,and Will stay King,Volition will spit out a game,SR2-Rockstar on the other hand,will spit out a cultural phenomena that will linger for years to come,just as all the other GTA´s have.

I don't really get your point. I can have my own opinion.

Was it my point you didn't get? Or the words I typed? What I'm trying to say is: I am just tired of people comparing two different games and assuming one could be better than the other. Was there a Saints Row for the Old gen consoles, no. Have most of us played and beat Saints Row, yes. Saints Row started out on the next gen consoles, my theory is that your views will be changed when you play GTAIV. That's my Opinion.

You cant lie about them not borrowing heavily from gta, casue they did. And ofcourse things like frame rate and whatever would be better in saints row. It was a next gen game afterall. We havent even seen what R* can do with this technology.

This is GTA IV forum, and talking about SR 2 here is pointless. This discussion is totally subjective -since it is based on opinions- , and is not grounded on any solid evidence.

 

it's a bit like saying: "Will June 2008 be better than October 2008?"

 

Well, a), we haven't experienced 2008 yet, and so cannot really comment. And b), 2008 is going to be different for everyone since we all have different experiences/opinions/tastes.
