Speaking of good ol days, I remember you saying it brings you joy to look at your vehicles in other games. I have seen a video showcasing your vehicles converted to gta 5, although some of them were converted a bit poorly - Mr Whoopee for example:

Haha yeah I've seen that. I like how i wasn't mentioned once throughout the entire video. Theres a few videos on youtube that feature my mods. It's kind of cool.

I think it`s more of a community thing, that autor`s name isn't mentioned alongside the mod`s name. Only Silent cheated system because he added his name to his mod`s name.

Its been a while! I just dropped the Oceanic in the Vice City Nextgen mod and it looks great! Im hoping to release a small pack soon with only VC cars and a few texture changes to make them more lore friendly

Any chance of optimizing the models? These cars are the best replacements available for some of the VC:NE models, but as they are currently, they double the polycount of a vanilla car, which is way too much and is bound to cause streaming issues (like the map textures/models not being properly loaded while driving around). IV's engine runs on 2gb of streaming memory, which is shared by all the assets of the game, and it really HATES high filesizes and high polycounts.

 

I'm in the process of making a proper car pack with proper engine sounds, gxt entries and data for VC:NE, and I'm using Thundersmacker's/GCT's/Vanilla IV cars as replacements. Your cars would definitely be a great addition, but I've been hesitant to add them cause they almost double or triple the filesize of the other cars I'm using. You can check for yourself to notice it's true. 

Thunder has succesfully ported V models on the past and optimized them for IV's engine. I'm just writing all this cuz this might be useful information to you.

While you're focusing on this pack again:

Sounds like specularity/environment mapping is misconfigured on extras in some cars which isn't an issue with the stock game, but is now causing issues with SilentPatch. Once those extras have their materials updated to be correctly non-reflective, everything will work fine both with and without SP.

Can you make a pack using only the correct vehicles of that game? I really enjoy this pack!
example: the police car of this pack is for GTA3 that is set in 2001, so it is based on Caprice gen 4 (this gen is from 1991) so dont fit to GTAVC that is in 1986...

Until a few days ago I had no idea that there were replacements for the cutscene vehicles and weapons in GTA 3. I found this:

Just what I wanted for years. Goated Dimzet as always (his mods are so underrated)

I never got around to doing the train , I think by the end of the pack I was completely burnt out and just couldn't be bothered. Like if I made it I would probably end up making the airtrain and the helicopters that are parked at the airport and the wrecked bus, hachura etc and I just drew the line there. The VC Nextgen pack is not going so well. Pretty much the only car that looks good is the oceanic, the rest have multiple bugs and scaling issues. Problems that were made by others who converted the cars to IV initially. Anyway the models are all there on the first page if you want to download and enjoy them in Nextgen but I might leave it at that unfortunately. 

 

In lighter news I have gotten back into the Savanna, and finished off the dash, most of the interior and a few other things. Its tantalizingly closed to finished now so Ill post a few pretty renders soon. Its been fun picking up where I left off a few years ago and relearning some stuff in 3dsmax. The knowledge is all there it just took a few ours to get my muscle memory back. Im unsure if I want the dash to be the same colour as the body or as the door cards/seats. Also the door cards are not finished Im going to remake a few details in higher quality. Is ~170k tris alot for a model car in 2025? I dont even know hey.

If we go modern standards in line with GTAO Rockstar, then the Hi Detail models can vary between 75k - 198k polygons & 60k - 180k vertices per vehicle model.

You have to consider that IV game engine doesn't like big chunky models for cars, so... the lower the polycount, the better...

What would be the point of making the HQ mod of a car and then reducing it`s polycount? I mean if lower is better then the orginal model could just be converted since it has lower polycount that orginal gta IV car models. I think the more polycount it has the better and if IV can`t handle it then unopesci can make only V version for example.

If the problem lies not with your models but "just" with the conversion can't you just ask around and find someone willing to convert them again? They are still people making car mods for gta IV.

You can make a model with whatever polycount you want, even if it's +150k or less than 5k.

The difference appears while you're playing and a bunch of these modded cars spawn down the street. The higher the polycount, the less smoother the game runs.

GTA IV doesn't like heavy models with a high number of polygons for that reason (and i think it depends on how the game handles the memory too, but i'm not sure).

 

If unopesci wants to keep the polycount high, he should focus on a V release, otherwise, if he sticks to IV, he should lower the polycount.

 

It's just a tip, after all.

I think the main home for the Savanna would definitely be in V and VI. With a possibly downgraded model for SA and IV if the engine cannot handle it as is. "High definition" anyway is always a moving target.  When I started this thread I was trying to sort of aim to remake GTA3s vehicles in IV quality, at the time that was considered high definition. That was something like 18 years ago now. (Holy sh*t). But yeah I'm not THAT concerned about overbuilding this model for a near 20 year old game.

I still find them impressive. Yeah textures and engine models aren`t that good looking, as they used to be, anymore but they are still the best verisions of these vehicles community ever got. If you look how cars look in gta 3 android or defective edition your verisions are way better.

So ive been a huge fan of this mod for many years and use in almost all gta games (5,4,sa,vc,3) i have always wondered why you stopped at the 3 vehicles and never went onto to the same for VC,VCS,LCS,SA specific vehicles. i see your working on the savana now is this and indication you are doing sahd pack now?

Not quite.

 

Apart from the Deluxo, Hermes, Cuban Hermes, Oceanic and Sabre Turbo, there have been no attempts from unopesci to make HD versions of VC vehicles (though some of the GTA III vehicles, like the Manana, or older vehicles like the Perennial, Idaho, Esperanto and the Cabbie, would technically fit in VC).

It just took so much time and energy i probably nearly lost my mind trying to remake the III vehicles. It took years and if you reread this thread I was making multiple a month at some points I dont know how I did it. If I had the power I would clone myself multiple times and lock my twins in a basement with infinite doritos and 3dsmax but it just won't happen. I have to work with the limited time I have now between real life and the love I still have for GTA.
