[BETA|WIP] Things To Do In San Andreas

I am just ironing out one final bug before release.

 

The file available on GTA Garage is the last BETA which had a number of issues. They have a condition that means a file must be available for a hosted mod so the last one is there - this is NOT the final release.

 

@GTA Realizzer - I have fixed most of those in the mod anyways. 1 is already fixed by the mod without moving the save disk. 2 an FBI Truck will spawn somewhere in the game after completion of 'The Truth Is Out There'. 4 I have fixed the SF driving scgool texture bug, I never noticed that house in Aldea Melvada but I cant fix the garage in Doherty (I never noticed the problem). As for 3 I have made a number of changes that improve things like the draw distance but I havent played with it much, if end users want to employ their own methods for improving game performance thats their choice but its outside the scope of the mod.

NAH!Use Pawfect Skin Changer to launch the game and the save game bug will be gone!

@ Deezire, like I said before, please let me know how to run the game without using A CD, or the skin changer... Heres pics of my REAL GTA: SA that I BOUGHT back in '05

I really want to play this mod when it's released. you can PM me if you don't want anybody else to know how to do it, but please make an exception for me sad.gif I think didn't rip off R* games and I have paied the price to play this game. (BTW if youre wondering how i keep reinstalling, well before my DVD broke I copied the files from the DVD into my PC! that way I wont have to re-buy it smile.gif)

A week ago I saw it second hand at 5€ so I bought it, is the original game, v1, with coffee and that... The DVD is very new, almost no scratches, and well, doesn't look "fake" to me... dozingoff.gif

I have written in no-cd support for the mod. It will still require an original installation of SA to be installed on top of.

No-CD support ?

 

I though this only works through modifying the exe itself.

And that would be illegal, because it equalls an No-Cd crack.

I suppose that means either fixing the crash and providing a bitwise difference which would apply on both original and no-CD EXE files, or, as some other mods with their own EXEs seem to do, provide a no-CD file -- which WOULD be a problem.

What do you mean? Does it mean that the mod will include a new gta_sa.exe that will be coded by you? Because I have the original GTA SA installation on my PC, i hope it will work

I think this post at gtagarage explains everything:

 

Theres another advantage to this too - it will allow me to patch the EXE file on the target system. Now I know that editing the EXE can sometimes be considered 'taboo' but let me explain why I want to do this;-

 

1 - by doing so I can also provide an automatic downgrader for those who do not have V1, thus allowing the game to support mods.

 

2 - by patching the EXE I can distribute fixes to the game that are only possible by doing this. For example the bug where categories are generated & displayed in the wrong order on the stats.html page, the zone bug in Los Santos (the Temple area is announced as Sunnyside on police radios), the Predator (police boat) radio should have a police radio instead of radio stations - and there are a few more.

 

All of this means that I will not actually be distributing any files - I will simply be distributing the differences between my modded files and the originals, then patching the originals on the target systems so they become the modified ones. Effectively, this will in turn eliminate any and all installation errors and thus guarantee that the mod will work as intended on your system.

 

Let me assure you though that the EXE patch will in no way allow people to cheat, circumvent the copy protection system or play without the original DVD. Indeed, the installer will check for the presence of an *original* unmodified EXE file before it will attempt to install anything.

 

So whats the cost? Well first it means that the process of installing this mod will not be reversible. Once its on its on, theres no going back. Of course, if you make a backup copy of your GTA:SA installation first, you can still play the original game too.

 

Second, it means that your EXE will get patched to match mine which is the V1.0 Euro exe. This *may* mean localisation problems if you dont speak English, and will of course reverse the effects of Rockstars patch that fixed the 'cars dont get clean or dirty' bug (which is no biggy because thanks to melolo the cars look better now anyways).

 

So in a nutshell, the mod will only install and work if you have an original GTA:SA installation already, and will then NOT WORK if you replace the EXE with a cracked one or one otherwise modified (e.g. a no-CD crack). So only honest people will be able to play it.

He's just swapping EXEs. Not writing in support. And if this installer is an EXE, I'm pretty sure an EXE can decompiled

The whole installation is just a bit-wise patch to the games original files. By checking those original files I can verify an installation and also make sure the installer patches correctly based on which version you have and whether or not you want the censored or uncensored version. The advantage of patching rather than distributing files is the footprint - this way I can distribute a mod thats grown to over 200MB in size with a 10MB installation package. It also ensures it gets installed properly - just look back through this thread to see the problems people have had with it, due to the complexity of the mod its a nightmare to manually install and SAMI doesnt do a good enough job.

 

I cant see why you want to dis-assemble an installer, but in either case you cant - its not a program to be dis-assembled as such, it's a small executable contianing a series of bit patterns that are applied to original game files. That executable is encrypted and compressed to further reduce the footprint.

 

If any of that i a problem for people, that cool by me, downloading and using it is after all a matter of choice.

This is one big joke! DeeZire tell us when you release the mod? angry.gif It's boring, because we're waiting for something that we don't know do it ever will be released.

Save/load crashes are extremely hard to debug, it once cost me 3 hours to find the block of code that caused it in a much smaller script... and wasn't completely able to fix it!
