lurchseesu420
I was thinking, next summer, if I have the money, I would like to start some serious body and floor pan repairs to my beetle. I was thinking, that after I replace the floor pans, to have the whole rolling chassis powder coated. It's supposed to last a life time time and never rust right? What I was wondering if anyone else has a classic that they are considering (or already have) powder coated the frames of their vehicles. I want to know the pros and cons and what's it likely going to cost me to do it. I also know that I will need to find a place that has an oven big enough to fit a whole chassis into so that might be tough. But in the end, I am wanting to end up with something like this (minus the front suspension since my super has stuts that I will end up replacing). Can anyone give me any tips? kevin2006rhs
Eh...unless you want to tear it down even further, so that it is just a solid pan. What would be better is, since you seem to be the daily driver type, truck bed-liner it and use the extra cash to help update those front drums to discs and the motor to a 2110cc longblock. All in time. Still I would want a good stable body. But yes I meant having it torn down to this and then having additional suspension pieces coated. I had considered bed liner. My friend has it done to his 79 Jeep CJ7. But I heard it will eventually wear off. And as for the 2110 CC longblock. Is my magnesium case even strong enough for that much power? Or would I have to switch to aluminum? Still good to see someone who knows classic VW lingo.
kevin2006rhs
My pap builds these lil f*ckers up all the time. He likes having a car that makes a corvette look slow and still only make 150hp. I have pretty much grown up around the cars, well a bus, baja bug, and a super bug, and have torn down and rebuilt the buss and super bug Electrical: if you have not already done it, update from 6V to 12V. Motor: Find an old 1600cc block or get a crate motor. They are pretty cheap. You can go with bore and stroke kits from there. Since the kits to do it are popular they are cheap too. Trans.: Type 2 trans should do you good. Start off there and gear it out. My pap went stock buss trans and added overdrive. He can get going about 140mph. Its freakin nuts. Non-Cosmetic Paint: The bed liners are great, just don't get the cheap sh*t. Now I am not saying go all out, but if you take your pan to a respectable off-road shop or hot-rod shop, they should have no problem coating it for you. Has 12V electrics and a 1600 Dual port stock. So I have a good starting point. And my friend used hurcaliner. And another friend used Rhynoliner on his CJ. But on a street bug do I really want a rough coating like that compared to an off roading jeep Edited December 9, 2007 by lurchseesu420

You dont need anything for grip so there would be no need for a high texture paint.
