Spenc938
My dad's computer is having the weirdest problem. When you left click on an .exe, or a shortcut, it opens up the properties box for that .exe or shortcut. I tried googling for a solution and the only thing I found said that it could be a stuck ALT key, so I switched keyboards, and it still did it. I couldn't find anything else, so I just decided to reinstall XP, and about twenty minutes after I finished installation, it started doing it again. If you flip the switch on the power supply, and restart the computer you will get about ten minutes where it works fine, and then it starts doing the same thing. Also, if I click on a menu (start menu, drop down menu) it will open, and immediately close again. Any suggestions?
Ring_of_Fire
Is your mouse working fine and are the left/right buttons not sticky? I think your problem is spyware and so I would recommend scanning your computer, using system restore, or backup and do a fresh format. But make sure your keyboard keys are to the default standing position, and be sure objects beside your computer aren't pressing against any keys. If it was spyware, it would have been wiped. I also said that I tried a different keyboard, so there is obviously nothing pressing against it. And the mouse is fine. Ring_of_Fire
Um, I have experienced this problem before... I already said that I had reinstalled XP. Reinstalling the OS doesn't get rid of spyware. You have to format, then reinstall. Or scan! Anyway, your problem is FIXABLE. Why are you giving us a hard time thinking that it's not? It should be a pretty simple task to fix given the above advices already, because I know for a fact OSes behaves themselves because of the coding which they have and have to listen to. I appreciate your input, and I don't want to get into an argument. Maybe I should have been more specific, I formatted, when I reinstalled XP. I thought that was something most people would assume, but I guess I was mistaken.
Ring_of_Fire
Assuming you meet the requirements for running XP and you don't have spyware, maybe you have to possibly update your system drivers and apply Windows Updates and Service Packs? How I Simulated Your Problem Hold down the right mouse button and left-click at the same time! You sure your mouse buttons ain't sticky? You might want to try switching mouse or buying a new one. Also, make sure your keyboard is in tiptop shape! I KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! HOLD ON HAHAHAH Make sure your keyboard and mouse are already working and are not sticky before attempting this: 1. Uninstall any keyboard- and mouse-related software in Add/Remove Programs 2. Right-click My Computer 3. Properties 4. Hardware 5. Device Manager 6. Double-click "Keyboards" 7. Right-click your keyboard name and select UNINSTALL 8. Repeat steps 6-7 for "Mice and other pointing devices" 9. Reboot 10. Go into Control Panel and turn off all Accessibility features in the "Accessibility Options" applet. Also, double-click the "Mouse" applet and see below... Hope this helps! Ring_of_Fire
The mouse probably had some hardware issues. That's what I told the thread starter and he said his mouse was already working. Which means he officially lied! The screenshot I posted was the most obvious reason if his mouse WAS working. Not when it is damaged. Edited December 11, 2007 by Ring_of_Fire
Fozzy Fozborne
Does it really matter? And problems do solve themselves on Windows... yesterday I turned on my PC to find that all the text that popped up when I put my mouse over icons on the desktop or if I put it over a space on the taskbar was hideous and huge (really annoying). I didn't do anything to it... came back an hour later (and no one used it, I was alone) and it was back to normal.

Spenc938
@Ring_of_Fire: SHUT THE f*ck UP. Everything you have said has made it blatantly obvious that you are an idiot. Before, I didn't say anything because you were trying to help me, and you deserve credit for that. But now you're just being a dumbass. What I said to Picolini was obviously a joke, hence the emoticon and sarcastic tone. And I also did not go into control panel and try any of the things you said, because I knew my settings were correct. Having the mouse buttons switched would not bring up the properties box, it would bring up the right click menu. And last, if it was issues with input device drivers, that would have been fixed when I reinstalled XP. So no, I didn't lie. The problem was a "fluke" that went away on it's own. Edit: I was looking at your profile, and noticed that you claim to be almost 19. Wow, judging by the way you talk I assumed you were some prepubescent twit who gets bored too easily. But I now realize you are even more pathetic than I first thought. Edited December 12, 2007 by Spenc938

Svip
I have tried this problem before, it happens for some reason I have yet to understand, the point is, if you right click twice, it should stop doing it again. If you flip the switch on the power supply, and restart the computer you will get about ten minutes where it works fine, and then it starts doing the same thing. I thought you said you only get 10mins where it fix itself, and then back to the same old problem? So how is it possible restarting worked? So no, I didn't lie. Ring_of_Fire
Then why you bother to create your thread if you knew Windows fix problems automatically itself from a restart? How dumb is that? Notice how this thread led to you fixing your own problems and not us? Normally problems on this forum is only when you know for sure they won't get fix automatically from something like Windows. feel that you are a dumbass. Why the hell do you love to curse? These words have no effect on me, why even try? I reported your previous post anyway, want me to do it again? Please stop cursing, it's just a crappy and nasty habit. I have solved many computer problems (I can provide screenshots) on this forum and have got my threads pinned, and you are saying I don't know a thing about computers????? I have received 1 karma star before, and it has stopped there since I couldn't bother help because of laziness. Sometimes I post accurately if I feel like, sometimes I don't. The reason why I do this because normally if I don't, the thread starter always find ways of telling us that the problem we provided to him/her didn't help (it's my trick to get the credit). It's best to give it all you got and say it! Click my username and select "Find all post by this member". You will realize how much problems I solved! Then again, people think I suck at computers but yet I am actually solving so much problems? Edited December 13, 2007 by Ring_of_Fire
Fozzy Fozborne
Um... Dumbass is not cursing... cursewords with asterisks in them are not considered cursing. Yet again, you fail. "solving so much problems? alien.gif" How do you solve so much problems? I think the word you are looking for is many... you misuse it twice, I thought I'd point that out. I now demand credit for fixing your problem. I've got to be honest, you're just overbearing. Most people post their opinion and something to support why it's their opinion. You post your opinion and give support. But then when someone has a different opinion, you continually post in an attempt to disprove them. Look at the browser thread, you posted 10 times. Much of the time you were posting inaccurate information.

The only time I post more than once a month, is when I'm arguing with idiots like you. And isn't "hell" just as much of a curse word as dumbass? So you're cursing in the same sentence that you are telling me not to curse? Wow. You really are a dumbass. I thought you said you don't want to get into arguments? Now you just spamming this thread. If you didn't curse and get so miserable, this wouldn't happen! I said that the first time that you posted. But since then, you have driven me so damn crazy that I can't help it. Ring_of_Fire
Yea, whatever. You don't seem to realize that what went wrong in this thread was that Windows fixed the problem for you and not us. And since if a technician was to go to someone's house via a long distance and found out that when he restarted the person's computer, the problem was already solved - they'll get into arguments. Technicians like challenges and that's what they expect! So this thread shouldn't have gotten created in the first place (but kept to yourself) since all that required was a simple restart of the computer. I wasted all my time trying to help and I was mad, that's all. Question: What if the problem didn't recover from several restarts? Which post and by which member would have been the most likely source of the problem? Well, I have been away from that computer for a few days, so nobody has touched it, but now it doesn't do it anymore. Thanks anyway for your help. Don't be surprised if it comes back (because it looks like spyware), and you end up complaining again. The reason why I kept on posting after your post here quoted above was because a problem like this is BOUND to come back again! I have not had ANY mouse issue like this before and so all I did to tell you "This thread ain't over", and you went mad at me for somewhat no reason. Alright, I want to get the same mouse issue as you. Please tell me now how can I get it. Oh, and don't tell me to go into Control Panel, select the "Mouse" applet, and then select "Switch primary and secondary buttons" because that will obviously defeat the purpose of you failing to listen to me before... Don't tell me to grab Spyware and mess up the Windows registry, because you just said you reinstalled Windows and still the same thing. I want this problem now on a CLEAN computer! Don't be surprised if it comes back (because it looks like spyware) How many times do I have to tell you in order to get it through your f*cking head? I REINSTALLED XP. Ring_of_Fire
I REINSTALLED XP. SPYWARE CANNOT SURVIVE A FORMAT. AND REINSTALLING IS NOT A FORMAT! Alright, guy what you said is true. Now please, I want your mouse problem! If it exists in Windows XP on clean computer, then I can get it right? How many times have I said a word in this thread that triggers the profanity filter compared to you? And if it only required a "simple restart", than why the hell did it still do it when I reinstalled XP. Well, Windows fixing problems itself is just as worse as us finding that a simple/several restarts fixed a thread starter's problem... If you couldn't figure it out the first time, the chances of you figuring it out the second time are pretty slim. No, I actually want you to tell me how I can get the same mouse issue as you (I should be pretty good at doing that). I am actually not helping anybody this time - but somebody telling me what to do. Spenc938
Alright, guy what you said is true. Now please, I want your mouse problem! If it exists in Windows XP on clean computer, then I can get it right? If it exists in XP, on a clean computer, then you obviously cannot get it. You can't because it is a hardware issue. It isn't the keyboard, because I switched that out, it isn't the mouse, because no mouse combination will trigger the properties box, so that leaves the seven year old motherboard. The same motherboard that has been throwing occasional error codes since the day after I first saw the "clicking" issue. So the only way for you to get this problem, is for me to ship you the computer, and for you to hope that it will start doing it again. Or we could do the alternative, which is to just drop the whole issue.
