Californian
i want to import some videos in my WMM but i get this>> The file C:\Users\Californian\Videos\Series clips\gta_sa 2007-11-12 20-04-58-90.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. WHAT do i have to do so i can import my videos? i really need this!! Thanx in advanced

Californian
Can you open it in any other program? i opened up Windows Media Player and play it but i can only hear the sound and no video (as if its music)
Ring_of_Fire
Somehow FRAPS damaged the file during the recording process (it can happen if FRAPS crashes during in-game while recording, or if you tried to record your Windows Desktop without selecting the "Desktop Window Manager" DWM option). You can try GameCam next time for safety reasons. anyone else knows what to do WITHOUT re-record my vids? You can try reinstall FRAPS. If that doesn't work, then I would love to see if I get the same error message on my computer if you could just upload the video file here so that I can download it and test it. Anyway, try to de/recode the video -> http://www.virtualdub.org/. If that doesn't work, then copy and paste "cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." into Google. Most links mentioned about installing additional codecs such as the Xvid/DivX, WM9Codecs, and http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm Edited December 8, 2007 by Ring_of_Fire
derty
Can you open it in any other program? i opened up Windows Media Player and play it but i can only hear the sound and no video (as if its music) Install the DivX codec. (Xvid is great to have too) By your problem, I can tell you are not a , good man. If you still have issues after installing DivX (only the codec is required, you do not need to install all the other junk)... If you DO still have the issue in Movie Maker, and NOT media player's issue, then follow this path: Start Menu > Control Panel to Add Remove Programs. On the left bar of that dialog, choose "Add Or Remove Windows Components" Find and remove Movie Maker, and re-check it to reinstall it (after reboot). This will re-scan your system for all of your installed codecs. Cheers. -derty edit: Be SURE to have your Windows Disc or a Backup of it handy before following my instructions! edit 2: Stay away from that codec pack! Here is your DivX and XviD links: DivX Download and XviD Both of those are great, and just to make sure you *most likely* never have AVI playback issues, you may as well install the latest AC3Filter pack while you're at it. Otter
Get Mpeg streamclip and VLC, and see if your file plays back in either of those.
Picolini
Yeah, I 'd test to see if it works in any program. If the video doesn't work, then you're sh*t out of luck. You should really test each video along the way. How could you make 30-45 with out checking at all?
Rocketkiller
http://www.cccp-project.net/ Download it and try again. Also, don't use movie maker, I don't have any suggestions for programs, but pretty much anything that you find will be 10x better. I tried WMM once and the only thing I managed to do was crash it constantly. Edited December 8, 2007 by Rocketkiller
