Beagle in Fort Carson

Have you ever tried to do anything with that Beagle (2 engine plane) in Fort Carson (small town west of LV)?

As soon as I got in it it started driving forwards. But its wings got jammed between the fence and the telegraph pole and I couldn't move it forwards or back.

Can you do anything with it?

No Steve that beagle is only good for two things

I think...

1. To take pictures of...

2. To blow up right when you drive by it when

your doing "Paramedic" in Fort Carson...

took me out!

I have never noticed the Beagle there before....so i thought i should take a look. Took me a little while to find it given its not on any vehicle map i have. But what a strange place for it to spawn..given there is no runway or anything.....has to be a glitch...hmmm...or a trap as you said.

I tried pushing it out by myself...i was able to move it a few feet...then it just exploded and wasted me.

I noticed it when I was doing a vigilante run around that part of the world.

It does seem to catch fire and explode very easily.

Actually, a beagle spawns sticked at a house with the USA flag in the roof in the ¿southwest? of fort carson, when you get inside it , it explodes. I'll post a pic later.

Depending on how it spawns in relation to obstacles, you can get it out in flying condition with a tow-truck.

If you blow it up, or it does it by itself, you can make it respawn by entering/exiting the 24-7. If there's a loud explosion right after you exit the 24-7, enter again rolleyes.gif

The Night Fox

I have noticed it sometimes before, though it only explodes if I try to pilot it.

Easy to find. Just go to the ParkNSpray in Fort Carson and find the closest intesection. The house with the two american flags located on this intesection is where it appears. It may not always be there...so as ussual, you may have to circle the block a few times.

Where exactly is it?

I'm not sure what jolly_jay means by "ParkNSpray", but there's a Pay-N-Spray close by. tounge2.gif

I don't think the Beagle's a trap Steve, it just takes some very careful shuffling to dislodge the plane.

I managed to get it out, and it sometimes caught fire, but I used the health cheat a few times to renew it. Then I took it across some empty off-road space and flew it to Easter Bay Airport, San Fierro.

What does it fly like?

It'd be quicker to walk to an airport and get a plane from there biggrin.gif

Dislodging the plane *is* the thing you do with it. If you can get it out and fly it, you've done all you can with the Beagle. smile.gif

It's a good plane and flies nicely. I feel like a real pilot! biggrin.gif

But as soon as you no longer have it, a new Beagle will probably respawn at its home and it'll have to be untangled again if you want it. Whether it's worth it is another matter though.

And you're absolutely right, it is quicker to get a plane from the airport!

Is spawns inside San Fierro Airport, you can take it for a test-flight from there if you want. smile.gif

Yep, it's there too.

The big planes seem to be much easier to fly than the smaller ones, which are tricky to manoeuvre.

Unlike the Beagle at SF airport, the ft. Carson Beagle is unlocked from the very beginning. Good luck getting it out of there with 4*'s lol.gif

It handles well and the speed is ~ that of the Dodo (bigger planes appear slower than they are, - the Nevada for instance is pretty fast for a prop).

It's also one of the few planes that can take a passenger, - but it's big and clumsy on the ground.

Yeah...that might be a good challenge. We can try that once somebody manages to get it out with no stars (and no cheats).

How many passengers does it fit. Does it fit 8...(including captain CJ) I've never really taken much interest in a beagle before.

GTA Phreak pointed out this plane to me in a different topic.

I don't think it's possible to extract that plane without cheating, let alone with 4 *'s. I've tried it quite a bit. (I have a thing for obtaining planes early in the game, although sadly the Beagle is too big to save before you unlock LV).

That Beagle gets critically damaged during the spawning process. Objects that spawn tend to drop a little; this is particularly noticable with boats, and planes like the Nevada. Due to its odd spawning location, the wing of the Beagle in question probably passes through the roof of the house it spawns beside. Sometimes the plane will blow up right after spawning... other times it will stay intact until you get in and start the engine. Even if you can push or tow the plane out of the driveway (and that in itself is a challenge), you'd have to find some way of healing it before you jump in. Good luck towing it all the way to your air strip garage without blowing it up.

The plane has other odd properties too. It slides really easily within the space of the driveway, as if it had really low weight or no friction from the tires. My guess is that Rockstar put the plane there as a curiousity, good for a photograph and little else.

--- EDIT ---

It will unfortunately only take 1 passenger + CJ. Even if it looks like there's doors and seats for 6

On that note, would anyone know the biggest capacity air vehicle in the game? I suspect it's the Maverick, which can can seat three NPCs, but I haven't spent much time investigating. Here's my best guess for the air vehicles:

Single-seat:

- Hydra, Rustler, Stuntplane, Crop duster, Hunter, Hovercraft

Two seats:

- Dodo, Sea Sparrow, Sparrow, Beagle, Skimmer

Multiple seats:

- Maverick, Police Maverick

Unknown:

- AT-400, Andromeda, Nevada, Shamal, Cargobob, Leviathan, Raindance (probably all single-seaters)

- News chopper (maybe two?)

Very good explanation as to how the beagle gets damaged....and it makes alot of sense.

I have always wondered why planes and boats spawn like they do. It's very noticeble when you are walking through an airport...the aircrafts spawn a few metres above ground and then drop down onto the tarmac.

Does anybody have an explanation as to why they spawn like they do? I didn't beleive other vehicles spawn like this.

I'm pretty sure this happens to a greater or lesser degree with all vehicles; it just happens to be more noticeable with objects that get spawned above the water (like boats and seasparrows), or irregularly shaped vehicles like the Nevada. The coders probably wanted to give themselves a margin for error so that objects won't get spawned embedded in the road surface.

You can screw around with the spawning mechanism by driving through hilly areas (at least I'm guessing that's a good way to trigger the glitch, anyways). Occasionally you'll come across cars, especially police vehicles, partially embedded in the pavement at odd angles. In all of the cases I've come across, the front of the car was embedded, so I wasn't able to jack it to investigate further.

  • 3 years later...

I've been thinking... If I remember well, there's a police bribe in Sf that is completely unreachable unless you use a savegame editor and changed its coordinates. If you added (or removed, I can't remember) one minus sign, the unreachable bribe appeared above the broken bridge near Palomino Creek, clearly where the programmers originally wanted it to be. Could this be something similar?

Oh and thank you very much for bumping a topic that was last replied to in 2007.

I don't know, it seems to me like the appropriate topic for posing this question.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this hypothesis is very likely.

-38.70690, 1083.19995, 19.18720, -8.73, 511, -1, -1, 0, 0, 0, -1, -1

Swapping the sign of the x coordinate puts the Beagle just a little farther east where is would be blocked by a tree, and there is no clear area for takeoff in any direction. Swapping the sign of the Y coordinate puts the Beagle just north of the trucking asset at Flint Intersection, and several meters in the air. I think it is more likely that the incorrect vehicle ID was used. Perhaps a Mt Bike (510) was intended instead of the Beagle (511).

Personally I'm not surprised to find a beagle tied up in a driveway wink.gif

And btw. I have successfully flown it on a "In the Beginning" save, albeit briefly (4*'s, no cheats). It was so badly damaged that I crashed in the sea shortly after take-off sigh.gif
