Steve Crook
Not really races because you're not racing against anyone. Unless you do them again and try to beat your own best speed. But is it always foggy when you do the Barnstorming race in the Stuntplane? Or does that only happen for me? It seems that every time I try it, it will be foggy for at least part of the course. I did it once when it was foggy for the whole course, and it was at night as well. That was really quite tricky I was just doing the Military Service race in the Hydra. The first few times I did this I did it almost totally in vertical thrust mode with only a little bit of forward thrust. That way you can do it very slowly and carefully. But this time I was trying it in full forward thrust jet mode and was doing well until I got back to the deserted airstrip at Verdant Meadows - when a dust storm blew up and I couldn't see a thing. I tried navigating by instruments alone but you have to fly between those big rock pillars so it was easier to switch back to "half and half" mode and go slowly while the dust storm lasted. Does everyone else have problematical weather while they're doing these missions? Steve
zmoonchild
Does everyone else have problematical weather while they're doing these missions? I've done the races again and again several times, and the weather seams to be random. Sometimes it's clear, cloudy, stormy, but not always the same. I agree though, that doing the races in a sand storm in the desert, or cloudy in San Fierro does make it a little bit more difficult.
RidingHigh
I love those races, and I like to steal myself a SA news chopper from the checkpoint one that starts in SF. I don't usually have this happen for those races but I honestly believe that weather is against me whenever I climb into a plane. The second I get in a plane at the desert airstrip and taxi into a take off position, a sand storm starts nearly every damn time. You feel like a leaf trying to fly in a sand storm, impossible to stay pointed in one direction in a little plane like the Rustler(Which is one my favorite planes). Rain and fog isn't as bad but it often starts soon as I get in any plane at the SF airport too, so again I'll wait for it to stop before I take off. So either my weather timing and luck sucks, or R* programmed the weather to change when you enter a plane just to make flying harder. BTW. There's another race going on at the LV airport. I always see a guy in a baggage and a guy in a tug chasing eachother in circles around the big stack of containers by the hanger where the races are. I think they're just bored airport workers trying to have some fun.

I think they're just bored airport workers trying to have some fun. I've gotta check that out. Sounds funny. I never really had any trouble with those races. Alot more easier than the road races...given you are on your own. But....i can't ever recall having bad weather...especially those horrid sand storms. I would have been cursing the game if so. I think u've just been unlucky steve. I forgot all about that news chopper. I remember i was planning to steal that one day ...but never really got around to it. Something else i can cross of my list. EDIT: got the news chopper now. Took me three goes. The first go i flew the chopper back to the airstrip...got out...took the police maverick out of the hanger (to rearrange everything). Just as i got out the maverick...the mission failed whilst both choppers where outside. So...I redid the race to steal the chopper again...but this time when i got to the hanger...my damn police maverick was missing...obviously because the previous mission failed whilst i had it outside...so...i finally got it third time! atwyatt
Does everyone else have problematical weather while they're doing these missions? Yeah, the weather can affect the races. Sometimes I get the dust storms in Military Service. Even one time I was flying over Bayside and there was a dust storm. Even though I've done the race 400+ times, I couldn't see the coronas until they were right in front of me. So I just bailed out and restarted. Also, I'm pretty sure *the wind* can make a difference in the times. I get wind a lot in Chopper Checkpoint, and there's no way I'll get a top time while fighting the wind. It seems to blow in random directions, so maybe there's a chance it could occasionally actually be a help during the races. All this is for top times though. The wind won't make much difference when just passing the mission. It will just make the chopper blow off line or slow down. But yeah, fog and sandstorms... Luckily they don't last for too long, and once you've had one of the two, they usually don't come back for some time. Also for Barnstorming, if you get fog (usually at the beginning, I believe,) use markers on the ground to go towards the next corona.
