Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Well, I can be over-critical at times, so that might have something to do with it. But the black guy with the white voice makes me wince everytime I hear it.

Slamman
We have a thread on this similar subject I'm sure... I'd love Rockstar to use A list talant but they've expressed interest in not doing that... It may facilitate their funds being utilized more for the game. err0rz0n
But the black guy with the white voice makes me wince everytime I hear it. Which black guy? I thought the voice acting was great in the trailer. I'm not worried at all, cause in all Rockstar Games that I played (GTAs, MCs, Bully, Manhunt, etc.) the voice acting was always excellent. Famous celebs = good voice actors, and vice versa? Not necessarily.

Snake Without a Tongue
I'd be laughing my ass off if Robin Williams had voiced Roman. I loved Moscow on the Hudson. He would probably do a good job. I'd love to know if Niko's voice actor is actually Eastern European or some off broadway guy pinching his nose and affecting. Slamman
isn't james woods from the show 'shark'? when i heard him in shark i was like woah..i know him....from...somewhere...hmmm That's the same James Wood who shot to fame in the film The Onion Field... went on to do Best Seller with Brian Dennehy, Salvador as well, and of course with Jeff Bridges in Against all Odds... He was a very inspired choice for Rockstar to get!

Hence the white-ish cultured-man tone, if I can say that.
Starion
I like the voice acting for this. And I really like Niko's character, he has a sense of humor to him methinks. < And the voice actor does help that, whoever he is. mod it with Nitrous Oxide and chassis dyno. WolfenVic
I'm sorry but I can't help you since I never heard the voices of the celebs until I got the game so mainly I never knew any of the voice actors were celebs. I still enjoyed the game tho. I believe Rockstar chooses the person who has the voice that is matched with the character they have in mind. Meaning yes they pick celebs from time to time but not since their well known and more because they fit the character they are playing.
ceedot
I recon it will just get better when we play it. But seriously, as bad as their voices are, the emotion of the actors is really good, and still brings that presence to the game.
rmmstnr
I don't know, I was really expecting more from R*. Halfway through the 3rd trailer, I realized why I liked the first two so much better: less talking in them. I really hope that R* can pull this together cause this and the funny way the characters faces reflect light make it so difficult to get absorbed. To shorten things, the voice work is just annoying, and characters just look distractingly funky.
sebastian_96
I think the guy that says "So you're the guy that got jumped for 3 million" (or something like that) looks alot like James Caan so it could be a possible voice actor. I would to see Seth Green voice act the muscle guy, a nice touch. I think they should get 3 - 4 stars to do voice acting but I don't think it is too important, as long as the voice acting is good (which it seemed to be). JohnnyDrama
There it is again, folks pointing out that the one black fella doesn't talk "black." You're all entitled to your own opinion, but is there really one way a certain race should talk? You're saying that, because he's black he should automatically be "gangsta?" Some of you do realize that not all black people choose to talk like that, right? That's just like saying that everyone from the south is a hillbilly. It's absolutely ignorant, not to mention very stereotypical.

rmmstnr
People speak differently, period. Not all black people speak like Fiddy Cent, and not all of them speak like Colon Powell. Not all Italian Americans sound like Chef Luigi on the Simpsons, not all rich people sound like Mr. Burns, homosexuals don't all sound like Richard Simmons, etc. So why are they criticized for not sounding/acting like society's perception? Perceptions are all different as well as objective, so there's no point in defending how black people "should talk." This is getting stupid, and should be dropped, R* could give a Canadian character an afro and a Japanese accent if they felt so inclined, it's their game, and who's to say that's wrong? Please stop saying ignorant crap like that. Ebonics is just slang. All black people don't talk like that stop with the stereotypes. Go educate yourself. If a black person talks different then what you hear on TV he considered to be talking white or whatever. That is stupid. I guess Kobe Bryant, Micheal Jordan Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman don't talk "BLACK"!!! They definatly don't talk ebonics. So would you say they talk white then??? *SMH* please stop while your ahead.
derek3056
The greatest voice acting ever done in a video game was "Andrew Ryan" from Bioshock. That character was very interesting even though we hardly ever saw him. That alone speaks volumes. To me, Grand Theft Auto hasn't been the best when it comes to storys, and how they're told. I was disapointed on how the last series went. Nothing really connected at the end. I'm sure GTA 4 will be a little better with storydepth, but no Bioshock. I think this one will be different just because they aren't taking any ideas from movies, which all the other GTA's did. This one according to Rockstar is completly original. crux989
It was a trailer equal to that of a summer action flick with its explosions, car chases, and one liners. To base your assumptions of quality over something so meager as that would be well worth avoiding.

I think it will be more original too. I liked Niko, I like the whole Russian/Bosnian gangster theme to this game. Very current to the times. The black chick dancing and the black dude with the chains looked pretty lame. Those were my only complaints. I did however like the last cut scence in the 3rd trailer, that looked pretty good. Oh yeah, and the black guy who said "what's up, money" looked and sounded really cool too. And don't worry about Niko's cousin. I think they purposly wanted to make him a little anoying by the looks and sounds of him. Kinda like having a retarded brother or something, you know? He's dumb and gets into a lot of trouble, makes ya feel sorry for him.

Aside from that everything was smooth. And Im enjoyin Roman's persona. He does seem like he gets into trouble and he's all paranoid. Probably on drugs. Thinks hes being fallowed. Hooooo shhhhhhii-. Ph3L1z14n0
Well I wouldn't necessarily call him a big name, but I digress. What character are you referring to? And if, IF, that is true and Seth appears, I would hope he is the least famous big name celeb to do voice work. What gives ??? Would you be pleased if a GTA game was voiced by Paris Hilton ?i f*cking hope not. The voice acting sounds pretty good to me, i love Roman's voice already. And would anyone stop f*cking complaining about Niko's accent, f*ckig babies
