Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Watching the trailer, one thing that kind of stood out in my head was the almost dramatic change in voice acting. Without the big names, the voice acting is quite similar to that of Saint's Row, which was very poorly done in my opinion. It's kind of flat now, with what seemed like out of place voices. Such as at 1:34 in the trailer, they have a black guy who sounds like a complete white guy saying, "Leave my people alone." Having heard Roman speak, I think his voice is gonna be more annoying than I feared Niko's would be. The accent seems so cheesy, like what I would sound like if did an impression of a Russian guy. (not saying he's Russian, shut up) Then they have the dude at 1:38 with that whiny old mafia voice which is so dissapointing when compared to such previous mafia voice talents as Frank Vincent as Salvatore Leon, Joe Pantoliano as Luigi, Michael Madsen as Toni, Michael Rapaport as Joey, Tom Sizemore as Sonny. God, Rstar really took a step back in my opinion by leaving out such a well-known aspect of GTA, the incredible voice acting. We went from such huge names as Ray Liotta, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds, Gary Busey, Robert Loggia, Chris Penn, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods, to a bunch of no-namers. To me, that makes GTA stand out less, and look more like a clone of itself, again, Saint's Row. Why would Rstar go this route? Worse yet, from what I've heard in the trailers, why did they choose such lame voice actors. The only voices I thought fit the part and sounded good were the guy at 1:30 who sounds like a real gangster, the hoods who put a knife to Roman's throat, and the thug at the end of the trailer who threatens Niko's life, that sounded like it came straight out of a movie trailer. The random appearances of other characters: The white guy who says this is how we roll just sounded so damn corny, the little guy in glasses at 1:30 sounds so monotone, and the mysterious black woman who may actually ship up to sound believable. The voices let me down to be completely honest, and some people commented on how cartoony the graphics looked. Well, they've always looked cartoony, now they look more like Saint's Row, colorful and very very vibrant which is not always a good thing. Tell me what you guys feel about the voice acting from we've heard at this point. Here's trailer 3 which I uploaded to YouTube, so you can easily view it. Symbiote666
I do think Roman will get annoying after a while, but I am pretty happy with what we have. I just wish Niko sounded 'rougher', he has quite a happy voice..
FrozenFire
We've all heard how different Niko CAN sound. He has had many different tones in each trailer, and Trailer3 just had alot of his more "Normal" voice. Not the angry Niko which i'm sure we'll be hearing plenty of in the game. And I see nothing wrong with the voice acting. I love them, actually. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Canofceleri
The voice acting has never been about big names. R* has made that clear. We have been treated to many recognizable voices throughout the series when it's been called for... but they don't pick big names just for the hell. I'm very satisfied with Niko's voice in Trailer 3. Adriaan
I think you'll find the dates calling you up randomly throughout the game more annoying.
Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
... but they don't pick big names just for the hell. Exactly, they pick them because their good. That's my point, ok, the fame of the actors is a nice boost, but getting a big name to voice characters is the better move because the believabilty and quality is so much better. Snake Without a Tongue
I share Garcia's concern. I hope we're just getting the wrong impression. Acting and storline quality looks somehow on par with VCS rather than a new stand alone game. I don't care about stars. I can live with no-names. Although, this will apparently be the first time absolutely no celebrities are voicing any characters.

There's already strong speculation that one of the characters in trailer three is voiced by Seth Green.
Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Well I wouldn't necessarily call him a big name, but I digress. What character are you referring to? And if, IF, that is true and Seth appears, I would hope he is the least famous big name celeb to do voice work.
darthYENIK
f*ck this, I'm pretty sure I heard Brian Doyle Murray in there, so there is definite hope.

JohnnyDrama
You guys are judging how "hard" the characters are by their voices? Wow, don't do that in real life. Trust me. And first and foremost, big names can easily ruin a game. Because when a person realizes that a big name is in the game, they end up focusing their attention on that character - not everyone as a whole. I'm not knocking your opinions. I assure you. But in my opinion, unknown voice talent is the only option.

I'm sure there will be some names in there, as well. But still, if the trailer is any indication... eek. And no way is that Seth Green. Just sounds similiar. Like the dog food guy from GTA3 who sounded like Dennis Franz.

Ya, the voices just didn't do it for me... I don't know, once I heard the black gangster yell in a white man's voice, I was both confused and put off. It seriously sounded that bad to me. BigBoyTraks
Saints Row had some well respected hollywood people in there including: David Carradine Michael Clarke Duncan Keith David Michael Rapaport Freddy Rodríguez Terrence 'T.C.' Carson there were a few more I can't think of there names. More than anything the story for Saints Row was the problem. It was just un original. I personally disagree with GTA IV needing a Hollywood lineup of names. Of course theres going to be some corny parts in there every movie in hollywood has a part in a great movie that you might find cheesy.
ZaZ9291
All the characters voices seem to fit them to me. Other than that guy who goes "Leave my people alone!" He sounds a liiiitle bit off. Niko, though, I think (and hope) will sound funny when he is supposed to be funny and sound bad ass when he is supposed to.
Gabe Logan
The voice acting is really good in my opinion, its good they havent got big names, makes the game more real. Also Saints Row had awesome voice acting, especially Benjamin King and Julius. The guy who voice acted for Julius voice acts the Commander/General guy in Mass Effect

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
Well I for one thought the great and famous voice acting of past GTA's gave it that edge that most of all other games, not just of similar genres, didn't have. It was great hearing voices come out of characters and immediately recognizing the actor/celebrity behind it. I fear we'll lose that experience... Seddo
All the voices seem fine in my opinion apart from Niko's. I don't know if it's just my ears but his accent/voice seems to change quite alot through the 3 trailers.
Gabe Logan
As I said before I am glad they have dropped the celeb voice acting. Everytime Tenpenny spoke in SA I didnt see the character for who he was, I saw him as Samuel L Jackson.

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake
OK, just came back from a quick trip to the supermarket. I will miss the star power voice acting if they've decided to scrap it, and I hope these regular voice actors will be better than I've heard in the trailer. They just didn't hit me like I was hoping they would. I mean, imagine if the past GTAs followed this concept..... Ray Liotta is NOT Tommy Tom Sizemore is NOT Sonny Frank Vincent is NOT Salvatore Luis Guzman is NOT Diaz Peter Fonda is NOT The Truth James Woods is NOT Mike Toreno I just can't picture past GTAs without these big-time actors, and I damn sure would not have enjoyed them as much. I'm just saying, they added a lot to the game. They made me love cutscenes, now, who knows.
