Police Car Already Crashed?

Everyone's been talking about how realistically the cars now show damage, for example, the cop car slamming into the truck, causing that indentation to the front hood/bumper, but I paused the trailer right before the car hit the truck, and it almost looked as if the damage was there already.. check it out and tell me what you think:

Nice find. It's obvious that there has already been some damage dealt to the police car already, but the question is, 'has there been more dealt after the car has hit the truck?'

After watching the trailer again, personally, I think minor damage, if not any has occured after the police car has collided with the truck.

They obviously haven't finished that yet...!

So they swapped in a model of a already creashed police car. You can clearly see from that screenshot and from the source HD video that the car does not gain any damage from hitting the truck.

The likelihood: This is a feature that they will be in the final version and they're ready to show it off, just didn't finish it in time.

Woah. Stop right there. Yeah, the car is somewhat damaged to begin with, but it does get more damaged as it hits the truck. I just went through the trailer frame by frame on a 42" screen. There is a single frame transition where you can clearly see the hood deforming further. It is still a single-frame event, so it is nothing fancy, but the car does take damage.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Can anyone figure out what the mark on the police car says?

I see it as Vopt/Vont/Vupt/Vunt???

I'm guessing it would of, since its airborn and tilted. It must have hit something to start doing that.

nlitement, you're a smart a** little pr*ck. 90% of your posts are nothing more than flames. You talk big behind a keyboard. But, to clarify what he's talking about, if you'd take the time to watch the trailer, you'd realize that he's talking about the EMBLEM on the hood of the cop car. As in, what MAKE the car is. Go back and look, then type.

Awww, you saved me for picking him apart myself. But I'll do that anyhow.

Niin, eli katsopas sitä traileria frame kerrallaan niin näet että konepellissä on merkki..

(Ok, if you would view the trailer frame by frame you would notice that there's an emblem on the hood..)

And the emblem is what I was talking, could not remember a word for it earlier so thank you LaMigra. smile.gif

The police cruiser is already damaged but if you look closely it's only some minor hood/front bumper damage. The damage resulting from the truck impact was definitely not already there.

Nope.. Unfortunately the hood is very badly crumbled up before hitting the truck.

Onlything that I can see is the whole hood moving a bit backwards but the basic shape is not altered. :-/

So it seems that the crash with the truk does nothing (basicallly) to the vehicle. :-(

Snake Without a Tongue

I'm glad somebody posted this. I was so charged by the realistic damage and then... the Zapruder in me took over. R* is the king of shenanigans like this. Showing something to give the impression of something else. I guess car damage won't be that smart in GTAIV after all.

Thats pretty interesting. The truck's front suspension reacts to the squad car right when the impact occurs.

It's Euphoria in action,... Note the headlights for the truck are absent. If they normally sit atop the fenders as found on normal Peterbilt and White Freightliners that resemble those 18 wheeler cabs

Am I the only one here who's not that excited about the new damage system? I thought the cop car didn't take enough damage from such a violent collision... Although, considering the somewhat cartoony style of GTA games, I didn't really expect it, either.

I agree with your point, the car doesn't sustain no where near the amount of damage that it should have.

Dangit its starting to look like the crash modeling is preset like the other GTA's...i really hope not though...

Well I'm starting to agree that the damage there was caused by what made the cop car go up in the air in the first place, and then was even more damaged when it hit the truck, although it should've been damaged further, more realistically. Still an improvement over past GTA Games.

The truck's lights are missing too though....things to ponder

Yeah, weird. I didn't even notice that.

The cop car does get damaged more when it is hit. It definetly isnt any real-time procedural damage though.

Im pretty sure euphoria only deals with character models at this point
