jack thompson
what i liked was when the police car crashed with the truck-trailer, you could see a front damage and the police car was stopped dead on. the truck did not seem to move at all on the impact. it seems more realistic to me, compare to the physics in the previous gta's when you collided in a small sedan with a truck and the truck was thrown away. me likey
Raptomex
Yeah, that is a nice touch.
ryuclan
I like the part where that guy (kinda looked like Niko) fell on top of the car and smashed it. I hope that happens in the game.
jack thompson
yeah, that's another example. very realistic, just a big thump
ceedot
Also, the car's front moulded into the shape it hit into.
|Brad|
Damage was taken into serious consideration because the way that police car crumpled was quite realistic... This trailer has really made me more eager for GTA4. Lots of great features.
CryptReaperDorian
I like the part where that guy (kinda looked like Niko) fell on top of the car and smashed it. I hope that happens in the game. That was what I was going to say. I hope when you jump on a vehicle's hood it might dent, and you would be able to kick out the windshield. Kraxxuz
I think GTA 4 uses the Euphoria engine (I know it uses the physics engine) but the one like this
GTAGuy
All I can say is... Procedural vehicle damage FOR THE WIN!!! This feature in and of itself is enough to make me want this game more than I've wanted any GTA in the past.
NinjaJones
All I can say is... Procedural vehicle damage FOR THE WIN!!! This feature in and of itself is enough to make me want this game more than I've wanted any GTA in the past. I know this will almost definatly NOT happen but wouldn't that suck if its just the allusion that the hood crumpled realistically? I mean what if the way the cop car crashed into the truck was planned so where the car dented was made to lok more realistic? that would mega-suck, but i'm pretty confident that that wont happen so its all good
Nutoi
Yeah i know......Hi i drive a semi trailer but if i hit a pedestrian my truck will loose control
Trideez
The coolest thing I saw in the trailer was in the scene where he fell onto the car....if you pause it at the right moment, his friggin AK47 is hurled from his body when he impacts the car. The gun went flying, that was f*cking amazing. I think his handgun also goes flying.
K^2
All I can say is... Procedural vehicle damage FOR THE WIN!!! This feature in and of itself is enough to make me want this game more than I've wanted any GTA in the past. I know this will almost definatly NOT happen but wouldn't that suck if its just the allusion that the hood crumpled realistically? I mean what if the way the cop car crashed into the truck was planned so where the car dented was made to lok more realistic? that would mega-suck, but i'm pretty confident that that wont happen so its all good That is actually the way it appears to have worked. I went through the trailer frame by frame, and there is a single frame jump from normal hood to damaged one, and no further change. It is not a simulated deformation. Simulated deformation would occur over multiple frames, especially, since you can clearly see that the impact with a truck occurs in several steps. This means that just like in previous GTAs, there is simply a deformed model. Hopefully, there are more variations now, and it has a little more choice of where the damage occurs, but it is not fully procedural. It is understandable, too. Procedural damage would take up crap loads of memory. You'd have to have a unique mesh for every vehicle in the area, instead of a unique mesh for each vehicle model. That would significantly limit the number of vehicles that can be spawned at any one time. Much more reasonable is the system where only a few control variables are stored. Hopefully, that is extensive enough so that instead of just having a bent model and a non-bent model, you can have in-between states, as sort of a frozen animation state between two key frames. With sufficient number of such control variables, it can look pretty close to procedural damage, which is probably what we are seeing with the police car in the trailer. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
steakncheese
If you pause on the scene where the Cop car hits the truck, you'll notice that the cop car already had some damage on the bonnet before it hit.
Fakey_91
The car scenes were the best parts in the trailer IMO. Fantastic physics when they are driving fast and great damage physics. Now, the whole nonnet actually crumples, not just the front bumper. Fantastic stuff!!
